Good evening
I have been selling hatching eggs in here for 10 years and have just had my listings removed for policy violation. Has anyone else had this happen ? Also if I search hatching eggs and I can purchase from multiple buyers who is this the case ?
thankyou in advance

"I do wonder if it's just some kind of control over avian flu" - a good point. To sell eggs for any reason if your flock of all types of poultry is over 50 birds then your premises must be inspected and registered with the Animal and Plant Health Agency. Less than 50 birds of any type, including pets, and the birds have to be registered.
Whilst I am sure most sellers will be compliant with the requirements, I am sure some won't be, especially as none of the sellers commenting here I have checked are correctly registered as a business seller. Having lived in the country nearly all my life I have seen first-hand the devastating effect animal diseases can have on people's livelihoods. Banning the uncontrolled sale of hatchery eggs online would certainly be an effective safeguard.

eBay will get round to them, but it will take time. With over 7 billion listing on at any one time, it's just impossible to check each and every one at the same time. Many categories have prohibited items that are listed, need to be checked, reported and removed.
Once those items are spotted and reported like yours was if they too break a selling reg. they will be removed.
There is a report button on the right hand side of every listing, eBay do rely on members to report items, some competitors will spot and report items , until theirs are spotted and removed.

"And apparently eggs and bird flu has been looked into amd I think it was negligible" - it is a well established scientific fact that infected or sick birds can pass on the virus to their chicks if they are laying at the time of the illness or infection. Isolation of birds and their eggs is essential to control and minimise the spread of the virus.
You are probably confusing what you heard with regards to risk to humans from eating eggs laid by infected birds which is negligible.

I contacted eBay this morning and was told The issue was with Duck and Goose hatching eggs because the eBay AI is recognising them as Migratory or endangered species. If you are selling Duck or Goose eggs you must appeal the removal of your listing explaining they are from domestic birds. I was told Chicken hatching eggs are allowed to be sold and should not be removed, again appeal if this happens. Part of the problem is sellers are reporting other sellers listings and eBay AI is taking the listings down.

I'd be interested to see how anyone fares on appeal given that eBay's Live Animals policy page was only recently updated to say:
Live animals - including pets, vertebrate and invertebrate feeder animals, and hatching eggs - aren’t allowed on eBay.
Taken from:
That's not an AI decision, it doesn't update the policy pages.

I spoke to eBay customer service and they spoke to their management while I was on the telephone. what I said above in the previous message is what they told me. I would suggest if anyone has an issue I would recommend contacting them.
It is AI deciding the removal and outcome of sellers listings. This is What I said before, it came directly from eBay customer services.
I am only trying to help and for your info I have had one of my listings restored by eBay.

Thank you, I'll try that.

eBay.com live animals policy differs from the eBay.co.uk.
ebay.com:
What is the policy?
Sellers can only list the following live animals:
Fertilized eggs (species must be included in the listing description)
eBay.co.uk:
What is the policy?
Live animals - including pets, vertebrate and invertebrate feeder animals, and hatching eggs - aren’t allowed on eBay.

Whatever ebay cs told you, selling hatching eggs is against published policy. Continue to do it and it is highly likely that your (private) account will soon be a thing of the past.

My listings were in top of organic search, then suddenly in 1 day everything was removed.
I think someone just reported me, I can't believe eBay removed my listings themselves out from nowhere. If you go through prohibited items list, you can understand how many of them being listed and nobody cares (not talking about eggs).
The whole wave of removing listings begun with someone who wanted only their shop to remain. Imho

You could be right, as there's a report button on the right hand side of every listing, and eBay do rely on members to report listings which breach their selling rules.
Though you'll never know if it was a member who reported you or eBay checking, spotting and removing the items, just to be sure you cannot now relist those items, as you have been flagged up.

I believe it was a member.
I tried selling on Pets4homes, that's nightmare,
People asking you, then ghosting, then asking for you bank details, then ghosting again.
Then someone saying they potentially thinking of buying 10 eggs in future, but would like to discuss the incubator settings first, and actually they don't even have incubator yet.
So I had my listing for a week there and took it down, as that's waste of of time.

Hi, I have just spoken to ebay and the lady said it is definitely not illegal to sell hatching eggs on ebay, you have to request a callback on the help page. I am just trying to relist mine now.

In my opinion it is all related to recent Defra regulations (when we had to register within as keepers of poultry).
I think officials were shocked when they found out how many birds people keep.
I think it started from there.
As on eBay.com are different rules.
Hatching eggs only forbidden on eBay.co.uk.
12-05-2025 11:55 AM
What about eating eggs i mean they aren't much different in selling them on eBay.

it could also be something to do with the avian flu rules at the moment, eggs cannot be sent from some areas to others without a licence/permissions etc.
