R.I.P eBay (UK) ------>> 19th Feb 2025

The introduction of the eBay Buyer Protection fee of 75p plus 4% of the value of goods,  effective from 19th February 2025 has effectively killed off eBay (UK).

Buyers have walked away and Private Sellers are now forced to drastically reduce their prices to try to compete with 'Business Sellers', who are not subject to the eBay Buyer Protection fees.

It's a great shame, and unless eBay's management team in San Jose, California see the error of their ways, and quickly, there will be nothing left to salvage from the wreckage !!

Also, in response to another of your posts, the BPF does not just cover delivery, it covers issues with the item after delivery.

I pay with credit card so I don't need it, I just opt out.

The way its been marketed - the same thing that happens to my car insurance if I never have a crash.

Oh yes. Because of it, I always thought 'cat fishing' should have been called 'dog fishing'!

No, catfishing is better.  Dogs are friendly, and lack the subtlety and deviousness that the scam demands.

Cats, on the other hand, are clever enough to formulate the scam and execute it perfectly - and take devilish enjoyment in doing so.

There's some very small white on white text and a hidden check box.

I agree with you, BPF adds quite a lot to the purchase price and is driving away potential buyers.

plenty of haters out there today,

Re: R.I.P eBay (UK) ------>> 19th Feb 2025

The number of people visiting eBay (UK) and then buying from Sellers on this platform has dropped off a cliff, and it has to be down to the eBay Buyer Protection Fee

Winning bids for Auctions are also much lower now because potential bidders are being put off by having to pay an additional 75p plus 4% on top.

On a £12 item, the B.P.F works out at £1.20 and that's hardly an incentive to buy.

Your first two paragraphs are merely assertions, the first part of your third paragraph is a fact, the last part is just your opinion.

If I thought £12 was a good price for whatever it was, I would still buy it.

judging by the number of people that have liked this posting, and said "my sales are down" that's good enough for me.

You mean the posting by a "different " user?

Piggy backing in on "someone else's" creation?

Re: R.I.P eBay (UK) ------>> 19th Feb 2025

maybe because the moans who do not have a moan about it and are just getting on with selling are not visiting these boards!   It is often said that it is the negative type personalities that do the most moaning and that is (in my opinion over a lifetime experience) only too true.

eBay buyers at the moment are like the Monty Python's 100 yard sprint for people with no sense of direction.

How does that old saying go,

"those at the coal face know best what's happening",

and in this case, Buyers have voted with their feet and have boycotted eBay due to the Buyer Protection Fee.

Yes, judging by these boards some buyers have indeed stopped buying.  What real impact that will have on ebay will never be known by us as it is impossible to separate out from the performance figures.

I wouldn't change the word some, I'd remove it. In my opinion of course.
