Not been charged by eBay for damaged item relating to return?

Hi,

I sold a dress a while back and the buyer requested a return due to the fact it arrived damaged and provided a pic. I accepted a return. I asked her in a separate message if the package had been damaged in transit as my pics show no damage and I also thoroughly checked it over before dispatch I also apologised. She never responded to this message.  I assumed I would have to offer a refund.  The dress has been returned and the case has been closed by eBay and I have not had to refund her eBay has done this. Is this normal?  Has it happened to anyone else? To be frank I am pretty positive it is not the same dress but I never stated this.
