Hi all. Is anybody else as disgusted as I am at ebay reducing free listings per month (for private sellers from Oct 1st 2024) from 1000 to 300? That's not a small drop at all and it will impact people massively. I won't pay for my listings so I'll just use the 300 and stop there but there'll be a lot of people who will really be affected by this so badly. Ebay has really screwed the seller over here once again. Thoughts?

its to stop private sellers trading as a business. `Even more bad news incoming a lot of private sellers will be forced to a business seller account before xmas

100% . EBay makes £m per day from its sellers .

I thought the tax man was on that particular case? This is more clearly to do with charging people the 35p listing rate, they've done the maths and realised how much they're missing out on and the massive amount of money they already make seemingly isn't enough for them and they want more. I understand it's their platform and we don't have to use it but that's a huge reduction that'll leave folk hugely out of pocket.

You'll find the only comoplainers will be business trading on private accounts.

And the only people licking ebays *bleep* on this are businesses....

Would it really affect genuine private sellers? How would they have the time to list 300 pm never mind the 1000 they get now?
I have a private account as well as a business account and I'm lucky if I list 3 items of unwanted items I own per month.
Bring it on and weed out the sellers who are not genuine private sellers who have been trading illegally for years and denying their customers their consumer rights.

No private seller needs 1,000 free listings.

Its about Ebay saying f your reguarly selling then you are a business on the ebay platform - https://www.ebay.co.uk/sellercentre/selling/create-ebay-business-account
I would argue that you are a business seller with over 800 items a month.

I've currently got 167 listings, all my own & my sons/husbands used stuff, mainly clothes which no longer fit/no longer used. So now once I list them for a week, the next week I will only be able to list 133 items (if nothing sells) and that will then be my limit used for the month...... No wonder Vinted is doing so well, I don't think I'll have any choice now but to sell items on that platform....... Ebay are shooting themselves in the foot......

Thoughts?
Factually you are not entitled to free listings.
Looking at your listings it's clear that you are a business seller trading as a private seller in violation of eBay rules and the law.
eBay now pass data on to HMRC and if they decide to look into you and rule you are a business seller, it won't be just one year they will go years back.

Clearly you are wrong . I am

Clearly you don't know what you are talking about . I am not a business at all .

In what way am I "wrong".

try swapping to buy it now that will give you 300 per month listings.
Also with over 2.4k items sold you are trading and should be on a business sellers account.
You buy items to resell ... If you are not registered with HMRC I would do so as soon as possible as ebay progress towards notifiying HMRC on all accounts selling on the Ebay platform. HMRC will go back years to claim tax..

Yes you are a business its clear to anyone looking , you are buying to resell you have over 2.4k items sold. Some of your items are new. Hopefully you have registered with HMRC so you should be ok to be honest.
in terms of Ebay accounts they are in the process of forcing accounts to upgrade to business selling accounts hence why this push to reduce free listings as HMRC are aggressively taking action under consumer and tax laws against those who are trading but not declaring

I think you may have a problem, and this will apply to all selling platforms you use including Vinted, in that there's a fine line between HMRC being able to tell who is selling off their own personal items and who is buying from boot fairs and charity shops to re-sell. Something they'd look at would be items in different shoe and clothing sizes, and genders. Now that eBay are reporting your sales to HMRC you may want to look out receipts in case you receive the HMRC nudge letter and have to prove that you're listing your own personal items, not ones you've bought to re-sell.

You say that I don't know what I'm talking about.
Be kind enough and show where I said that you were a business seller?
