A buyer bought and paid for an item, then cancelled. Ive had to refund and relist it and the refund money came out of my ebay balance, but my funds for the original purchase is on hold (my funds always go on hold) so right now i’m out of pocket. Will ebay ‘release’ the original purchase funds back into my account on the date specified? I’ve never experienced a cancellation before.

That is correct, if there is no money in the Available section of your payment summary, eBay will use the back up method you have registered, usually your bank account, or can be your credit card whichever you selected.
Once the refund and case has been completed, the funds on hold will be released.

I think most sellers preferred how refunds worked before fund holding - a simple return of the buyer's original payment. It was a quicker, neater way of doing things.
eBay hasn't been the same since it dropped PayPal, imo.

I'm tired of buyers cancelling because they "bought accidentally" 3 days after shipped. Some of their excuses are lazy or nonsensical. "I only pay with paypal" is my latest. Eh u can pay with paypal and u didnt.
