We have over 100 listings however sales are dead for over three months now.
Wondering if this is about time to take our business away to other platforms as we really cannot afford high Promoted Listings fees but still no sales.
NO SALES NO BUSINESS

Also, if I understand correctly, just realised there's almost no point in a Private Seller, listing
Any items for under *£5-6.??
Because:
- no payout unless item is tracked as delivered?
- Not all buyers leave feedback, so an untracked item for £5 won't appear delivered??
- minimum cost of ANY tracked service is approximately £2.50???
- *unless it's charged to buyer, which will probably kill any sales????
Thank you g

You're very welcome 🙂

The proposal is that eBay will hold funds until proven delivered, or positive feedback, or failing that a specific timeframe (14 days or so after latest delivery date I think) so private sellers will get their money eventually.
It’s similar to what they do if you’ve not sold before, or are returning to selling after a long break.
Is it a good idea? Absolutely NOT as it just annoys sellers and they’ll leave.

@myfavoritenephew wrote:Thank you so much for important update, didn't know this .
I can understand it from both sides:
- Buyers are protected
- Encourages faster dispatch
- eBay hold onto capital longer
- removes unscrupulous sellers
Conversely
- All dispatches must be on Tracked Service!
- discourages small volume sellers
Why not trial a limit before imposing this?
eg. £20 max per item such as a disc/game
- to a grand total of £40, then hold funds??
Just a thought...
Why not
For many years eBay was a place where I could sell my stuff quickly and get paid quickly if I needed to generate money fast...
Now after the 2025 changes, I think I will just pay £20 and set up a market stall for the day somewhere... this eBay has now become slow and over complicated... we small private sellers don't need this !

OK that's grest information, thank you again.!!
So in many cases of:
- Untracked delivery
- Feedback not received
- low value items e.g. £5 DVD
Funds will arrive in 14 days...
For low cost items, it's no big deal
- UNLESS, all items sold are low value.
- For higher value items eg. £10-15 and Above, 'Small Parcels' are Registered as Delivered without Additional Tracking, to a value of £20 AFAIK
.

To me Managed Payments was one of those "Milestone Decisions", another being the introduction of FVF on P&P. That one being the start of ebay looking for short-term results from increasing fees rather than longer-term growth by increasing sales.
MP was, to me, when ebay went full-throttle to turn the site into a business oriented mall for new goods, turned its back on private sellers and decided they could sink or swim un-aided, but only if they could survive on an increasingly business oriented site. Every change since then might have been made for the benefit of businesses but any detrimental effects those changes had on non-business sellers were ignored.
Yes, what was called the "Ebay Fan Club/Fanboys" are very quiet these days. Those that so airily told private sellers how easy it was to set-up second on-line bank accounts when MP first started if they were unhappy about giving ebay their 'real world' bank details (What a mess that bad advice turned out to be for many a few months later). Who derided every complaint as 'scare-mongering' or looking for any excuse not to go along with (to them) something easily managed.
They laughingly told each other to start accounts hiring out 'droves' to help those leaving to go and regularly gave their opinion that ebay was better off without them, as they only cluttered-up the search results by selling mountains of tat (usually to each other).
They've become quieter with every subsequent change, as the droves departed and sales nose-dived further and for more businesses after every change.
Of course ebay's competition has flourished and the chickens are finally coming home to roost. Even ebay towers has at last noticed, gone into panic mode and made it Free To Sell for private sellers and even dusted off the long-ago promised "Ebay Wallet" to replace their PayPal Balance.
But then kicks them again with compulsory payment holds and their, so far unexplained, Simple Delivery. Which knowing ebay will be anything but simple, far too restrictive and all too obviously more beneficial to ebay than the private sellers that ebay are going to use as lab-rats. In all probability before rolling it out to what is left of its business sellers.
IMO it's too little and far too late to even try getting back ebay's biggest resource, its army of private sellers. Simply because ebay has been re-built for business sellers and tacking-on Free to Sell for private sellers won't make it a worthwhile selling experience, or any less horrendous for ordinary people to use.

That's what ebay has said specifically about this latest innovation. But I've yet to see any answer to a question I asked on one of the first threads about this soon after it was announced.
The question was "Will the 14 days(?) be the maximum that private seller's funds will be on Hold?"
Will ebay use those 14 days to clear-up any of the other reasons that they are already holding sellers money for up to 30 days or will they find that other reasons come into play afterwards?
The current system allows ebay to Hold funds if the seller is a "New or Infrequent seller" and holds out the hope that proof of delivery or receiving positive FB from the buyer, will release the Hold sooner. But this seems far from automatic and it sometimes does not get funds released until the 30 days are completed.
Then there are the verification Holds, either for bank details or personal details. That system does not seem to have improved since MP was introduced. Valid documents are still rejected frequently multiple valid documents are rejected, with the final say still in the hands of a team in the US.
Photo I.D seems to create the same problems, when after several years it should be as easy to upload a Licence or Passport photo as easily as uploading a photo to a sales ad.
I agree with you, this is not a good idea although I can see that there are valid reasons for some payment Holds. But their limit should be clear. "Eventually" is, IMO, not good enough in 2025.
Yes it will annoy most private sellers, especially those like myself who have been selling on a spotless and trouble-free account for years. But it will annoy them even more if how long a Hold will be applied for is an unspecified piece of string that can be stretched on ebay's whim and even more so if the seller comes to suspect that the Hold is being prolonged for no real reason other than ebay making more interest by holding for longer than necessary.

I had the same problem when I returned to selling on my business account after a 2 year break. Even though the account was in good standing, eBay decided to put a 30 day hold on my funds unless I received positive feedback or had proof of delivery.
This took ages to resolve as no one was leaving feedback and the items were too cheap to send tracked.
I had to contact CS on several occasions and they drip-fed my funds through. Took over 6 weeks to get all restrictions lifted.
I wasn’t impressed as was still selling on my private account which they could see was linked and, I hadn’t had any prior issues with what was a 15 year old business account.
They said they were holding funds in case of problems or a need to return, which as a business, they could and would have just taken funds from my bank!

Great reply.....it's basically ebay's timeline to disaster. They had an almost captive audience and destroyed it with sheer arrogance. It'll take an almost miracle to get the sellers back now that other sites have their foot in the door. Even if they did tempt a few back those sellers are likely to still deal with the "new" sites anyway so trade would be diluted.
One other major negative about the managed payments fiasco is ebay totally underestimating how many sellers were basically selling so they could use those funds to buy and thus complete the circle.
Some serious errors of judgement were made and any management involved should have no complaints whatsoever if they were/are given the "All Your Belongings In A Bag" march.

unsure if anyone still has thoughts on this thread..??
Please may I share my recent observations...
- randomly watching YouTube etc, a channel related to items I buy
- the broadcaster mentions "Vinted is a great source.."
- I browse, sign up, and within FIRST month I have literally spent
£££s hundreds of pounds, close to 40 Transactions
- item count, quantities bought total into the Hundreds!!
WHY??
- EXACTLY SAME Items can be found on eBay
- Dispatch costs in 95% of orders, only £2.39, IRRESPECTIVE OF SIZE/WEIGHT
to a conveniently located InPost Locker.
- Extremely difficult to fault the platform, buyer experience.
...
12-03-2025 12:12 PM
Well there are few issues with Vinted.
Firstly, you are very restricted in what you can actually buy over there.
And secondly, the vast majority of sellers are private and that means that you have literally no comeback on there. Just try and return something that you have bought.....
12-03-2025 12:18 PM
..
- Standardisation of SHIPPING COSTS is a HUGE bone of contention IMHO
- how is it eBay allow sellers to charge the Buyer, £4+ for an item below
£5 that is 'Large Letter' Size..??
Conversely
- I do NOT Buy from Vinted Sellers who do NOT Provide standard price inPost Locker options
I actually dread to think how much I've spent on Vinted since joining in February 2025..

I'm so pleased you've raised this point...
Sellers have to be 100% on their 'Best Behaviour'
Real World Example re: 1 of my MANY MANY orders
- 1x CD, price £1, part of a bundle of 10
with total shipping £2.39
- Disc Missing
- I click "Issue with Order" ie. I do NOT accept order.
- expecting £1 refund, which is totally Fair to all parties
- however I received over £4 REFUND..!!?
- Bundle of remaining 9x CDs equated to approx £8
...you can imagine, I was extremely pleased with the outcome
- took seconds for this matter to be resolved.

There should not be any none standard pricing on Vinted.
They choose the shipping options and not the seller.
Though you do have the ability to change which shipping size it is, which means it can be miss categorised, which leads to a higher/lower price.
And no, I completely disagree with you, sellers do not need to be on their best behaviour at all.
You need to go research it a bit more, there are some real horror stories with scams and the like on Vinted. Far more than you will see for Ebay.
As to the "issue with order", then it is usually moderated by vinted directly and not something that the seller has control of. But again, you try returning something to a seller that is not a business!
Vinted is still, very much the wild west of selling platforms. Their support is abysmal.
It does have it's advantages. It's quicker to list, but not necessarily quicker to sell.
It seems to go in spurts on there, whereas on Ebay it's more consistent.
But overall, the buyer is far more protected on Ebay, than Vinted.
12-03-2025 1:35 PM
100% agree on many points
Vinted is a growing platform finding its feet.. just like eBay did for the first 20 years in UK
My experience has been 100% positive:
- Buy USED items ONLY
- Low value £1-2 each
- CDs and DVDs for example
- Buying a BUNDLE compensates for the £2.39 blanket shipping cost
- I've also received 'MEDIUM Parcels' for the same £2.39 shipping, for 60+ items.
-
However I can imagine it may be different for 'High Value NEW Branded items'
- is that where someone would buy from, spending £200 on a 'designer handbag/shoes/jeans' etc???
12-03-2025 1:40 PM - edited 12-03-2025 1:43 PM
Real World Example:
- Sold a phone on eBay
- 2015
- £500
- Tracked RM Special Delivery
- 'Mysteriously' a week later, the buyer claims their "ACCOUNT WAS HACKED"
- Yes of course it was, because No one receives Notifications of any shopping activity.
- Naturally, I was at ZERO loss because of the RM Tracking and POD.
Just illustrates any platform is open to potential misbehaviour
IMHO..

All so unnecessary and counter-productive. Not happy here either.
