Sales Completly Died **September 2024**

We have over 100 listings however sales are dead for over three months now.

Wondering if this is about time to take our business away to other platforms as we really cannot afford high Promoted Listings fees but still no sales.

NO SALES NO BUSINESS

Can beat you, its now 13 days without a sale!

Nearly 20 years on Ebay & my previous record was 7 days (that was in the last couple of months.)

Will be having a long Christmas break from Ebay & deciding where to go from here.

I can beat you even further by 1 day ! 😁... now 14 days no sale of any kind  😞

Re: Sales Completly Died **September 2024**

Why would Big Brother be interested in anyones spending habits?

If they monitored ours they would probably say "do you really need to buy that....slow down " lol

Yes please.  Just send me a measure of the beverage in question and I'll claim I didn't receive it.  Since it wasn't worth sending tracked, I get free Eggnog 🙂

I have both of these 2 things but not the money ! lol

Sounds like first time buyers are now being hit badly by big brother's silly rules 😞  Hope your son manages to sort something out, BTW it's about £85 plus £5 for a new passport as I had to renew mine earlier this year...

Back to eBay... Late last night I got a sale for £71 in total... It was for an old gearbox that's been in my shed tripping me up for ages ! - Now it's sold !! 🙂 🙂 🙂

Seems like they like different items to old locks  ! 🤔

Still a sale is a sale and I'm not grumbling after 15 days of NOTHING !...

To be honest if you look we have had a few sales lately so i cannot complain.

Congrats on your sale!

Its all about money laundering legislation...they are paranoid 😞   He and i spent hours yesterday trying to sort it out.  Still dont know if we have grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr  He is working 10 hours plus a day and Sat and Sundays at the minute so hard to sort anything out.

Re: Sales Completly Died **September 2024**

Thanks 🙂

I think that the sold item was in a different and less crowded category then "Archeological antiques" and it got seen by someone who really wanted it ! 😁 so it sold promptly 🙂

Yep, these launderers have really made things bad for everyone now and this paranoid over zealous government doesn't help either 😞

I wonder what some of the folks who don't drive or have a driving licence are going to do now ? 🤔... There must be a way round this via special circumstances as not everyone drives or has a driving licence and it is rather silly that this is demanded when someone buys a house for the first time here in UK now...🤔

Re: Sales Completly Died **September 2024**

Well I managed it. Never had a passport or drivers licence, used my birth certificate and it went through no problems. Had more trouble verifying my Amazon account, they wanted a full birth certificate.

He could try applying for a passport with his full birth certificate and get 2 people to be his guarantors and obtaining a provisional driving licence as this will still have his full name and driver number on it.

Also he could try using his Bank card and National Insurance number too for additional ID.

It is really bad that there is now so much red tape before a first time buyer can buy a house in UK 😞

Best of luck to your son 🙂

Re: Sales Completly Died **September 2024**

Coming back to eBay, I think I need to move my locks from the "Archeological antiques - Locks & Keys" category into another less crowded category in order to succeed in getting them seen more easily and sold... but which category do I go for ?

I have already tried putting some of my items in eBay's "Home, Furniture & DIY Materials" category and that resulted in ZERO VIEWS until I shifted them back to the "Archeological antiques - Locks & Keys" category.

Anyone know which other less crowded category I could try ??... as eBay have now messed everything up by merging everything all into one gigantic category without a thought to how this will affect small sellers selling old antique items in such a big over crowded pool now 😞

Re: Sales Completly Died **September 2024**

That's the trouble with these giant new categories.  I had to put my Art Deco Glass in a category that starts with Pottery Porcelain & Glass, goes on to include Decorative Cookware & Tableware and eventually gets down to Bowls (or vases or plates etc)  The result is it includes 200K+ results and = almost zero sales.

Believe it or not I can also put my vases and bowls into Home Furnishing & DIY with equally numerous sub-cats. and with equally huge numbers of results.

Presumably before this madness was foisted upon us you had a three level category with a sub-cat. devoted entirely to (something like) Locks & Bolts > Antique > 1600 - 1899.

Just as I had PP&Glass> Date Lined > 1919 - 1939 > Art Deco.

Both easily searched for and ONLY giving results where the date was specified.

Do you follow ebays suggestions when listing?  It's not always a good idea, it will first offer you the same as you used before, I think it then throws up the most often used and therefore crowded and then goes to "No Matches Found".

What I found was look through the search results for the sub-cats that ebay doesn't show you but other sellers have found.

Then cheat!!

Put their Key-Words in the "Tell Us What You're Selling" box.  You'll then be shown their sub-cat.  Start writing your listing and correct your title when you get to it lower on the listing form.

Unbelievable but true.  Ebay wouldn't show me a whole section of Glass sub-cats. under Decorative Pottery & Glass until I tried this.  It obviously "learns" from what I used previously and will keep throwing those out until I forced it to show something else.

Hope that helps.

Re: Sales Completly Died **September 2024**

Managed payments has been the death of ebay. It was always going to take a while to kick in but their arrogance in forcing it on people has finally backfired. Ebay's "Whoop Whoop" supporters/promoters of managed payments are very quiet now.

From the instant managed payments was enforced/introduced ebay opened the doors to other sales websites to happily take their customers.

Managed payments was ebay's Gerald Ratner moment.

Absolutely spot on.

Just to add that whoever came up with the really daft idea to change eBay's message format (how we read and reply to our eBay messages) and also whoever came up with the silly idea of payment holds until delivery for private sellers only and eBay managed shipping really killed eBay completely... basically taking away convenience and liberty from poor private sellers whilst the big rich business sellers remain untouched... if this isn't a distinction and prejudice then I don't know what is !

These are all destructive and UNHELPFUL changes by eBay which were uncalled for.  😞

It is going to happen after 4th February 2025.

This and eBay's managed shipping is the last straw for me. I am out of here.

Re: Sales Completly Died **September 2024**

Thank you so much for important update, didn't know this .

I can understand it from both sides:

- Buyers are protected

- Encourages faster dispatch

- eBay hold onto capital longer

- removes unscrupulous sellers

Conversely

- All dispatches must be on Tracked Service!

- discourages small volume sellers

Why not trial a limit before imposing this?

eg. £20 max per item such as a disc/game

- to a grand total of £40, then hold funds??

Just a thought...

Why not
