Fraudulent customer

Hi all,

Just wanted to pick your brains for help.

I sold a gold Bullion bar (bought direct from the refiner, been using them for over 10 years), it was posted via Royal Mail special delivery the next day. The buyer received it, opened the tamper proof certicard and claimed it was a fake bar.

They then purchased Royal Mail tracked 24 with £150 compensation with no signature or image required (the Bullion bar was worth over £300).

To compound things Royal mail dropped of the parcel with a bulk delivery of others items to an address 10 minutes from my address (Royal Mail have confirmed this is the case). The tracking shows the item as being delivered to my address so Ebay have now refunded the buyer the full amount and are claiming it back from me. So now I have no item to check against my records ( Bullion bar's are all stamped with serial number and numbered certicards), the buyer has had a refund for an item that has been opened, tampered with and most likely switched and  Ebay are claiming the funds from me putting me at a potential loss of nearly a £1000.

The Royal mail website says you should send money, jewellery or valuable object via Royal Mail  special delivery so I think even the compensation from them is going to be rejected.

Can anyone suggest as to what to do next ?

Yours sincerely

So Royal Mail have confirmed that it was delivered to the wrong address?

How have they done this?

You need to get it from them in writing I think.

Though if you look at the tracking, you should be able to confirm the GPS coordinates on there.

Obviously if it shows a different address, that should be all you need.

You then appeal the case with Ebay, providing the evidence of delivery to an incorrect address.

And by the way, with RM tracked there should indeed be an image from the delivery itself.

This happens on all my deliveries tracked services.

Thanks for the reply.

Yes Royal Mail have confirmed to me the GPS position is about 10 minutes from my address and have given me a case numver. I was actually out of the country and my husband did not get hone from work until about 6.30pm although the tracking said it was delivered at 2.33pm. There is no signature or image on the Royal Mail website. Ebay have taken the decision to refund the monies going on the tracking says it was delivered even though I have informed them of the case number, the item has not been received and I have reported the buyer via the correct procedure to Ebay.

I always send out my items Royal Mail special delivery fully insured but the buyer has purchased the cheapest option which did not cover the value of the item.

I will send Ebay the Royal Mail case number email received and see if it progresses from there.

Thanks for taking the time to reply, I really appreciate it.

Yours sincerely

Have RM made any attempt to recover it as they know where it was delivered?

Don't forget, that even if Ebay don't end up covering the cost of this, you always have the option to take the customer to Small Claims.
