I gave negative feedback to a seller for what he/she claimed i have not checked the parts comparrison chart !! I had done a comparrison check and the photo on the listing was what i wanted . I recieved a item that was poor quality and was not the item i ordered . They said i was in the wrong and would have to pay postage . lol.... My issue is how has my feedback dissapeared and if they have managed to get Ebay to remove it and have done this for other neg feedback how does that give a true representation of a company selling **bleep** !! how does that protect buyers or should i say how does it help a buyer to make up their mind whether to buy from them . If ebay has removed it then they should be giving the buyer the oppertunity to have it reinstated for good reason otherwise ebay are covering up bad sales practices.

Automatic removal of negative but fair feedback renders the feedback system unfit for purpose. I have bought many books in recent months, but had cause to leave negative feedback in two cases, both for small-volume sellers. In one case, a book advertised as brand new contained notes and highlighting and in the other a book listed as brand new was mouldy. My feedback was purely factual. In both cases the feedback was removed summarily without notification and without following due process.
This practice is clearly designed to maximise trust and thus revenue for eBay, yet leaves the feedback system hollow and meaningless. Sellers should lament the practice, as it means buyers like me will stop buying because we've lost trust in the system. And that's precisely what I will be doing.

I've reported the practice to Trading Standards, as it's clearly a misleading way of boosting sales. I would encourage others to do so too.

10 out of 10 for effort but if we cant even get a hit & run driver who killed a British citizen in England returned to the UK for trial, I cant see Ebay caring about what Trading Standards have to say but I commend you for your effort 🙂

It takes only a few minutes to report to Trading Standards. Any negative publicity will hit eBay's credibility and therefore revenue.

Having had four negative feedbacks removed in the past twelve months, as a buyer, I am now of the opinion that the only solution to stop Ebay perpetrating this injustice, is for buyers to stop leaving any kind of feedback....positive or negative. Sellers with little or no feedback do not inspire buyers, and as a result, sales [and Ebay revenue] will decline. Perhaps, buyers views may then be considered in the future.

If we could wind the clock back your suggestion would be a valid one but in most cases it is the high volume (drop shop) sellers who get their negative feedback removed and their feedback is already in the 10's & 100's of thousands so leaving no feedback for that buyer in the future will have zero effect and as I pointed out in an earlier reply sellers (me included) only get around 40% feedback from all sales anyway so the whole system is meaningless.

I bought 3 postcards advertised to be from 1920 from a seller with 100% reputation, it is specified in the sale that does not sell reproductions, the 3 postcards turn out to be reproductions that appear to have been printed yesterday by the lack of aging, I put 3 neutral feedback and were removed within minutes.
It has been my last purchase on ebay, I can not trust a site where their system of evaluation to sellers is not reliable.

Sounds about right! I've said before, eBay seems to be slowly dying. Not sure how their profits are going as they've bolstered those by charging sellers ridiculous amounts of money. Then there's the free postage scam that should stop people with any sense from ordering more than one item as you just keep paying postage over & over when one would have covered the costs for smaller items. The only advantage over amazon is that eBay's search engine is better & it's easier to see who & where your item is coming from. I'm definitely going off eBay though as every time I look for something, there seem to be less & less results!!!

Report this practice to Trading Standards please everybody. It takes a few seconds to Google your local authority's trading standards team and a few minutes to send them an e-mail.
Personally I've bought 90% less on eBay since finding out about the negative feedback removal.

By the way this isnt just an Ebay practice ! A few days ago I left a review on a Boots product bought online (not directly from Boots). The product (teeth whitening strips) was rubbish, couldnt even apply the strips as instructed to and there was already nureous bad reviews. After i submitted a bad review, more detailed than others already showing, I surprisngly received an email from Boots stating that while they welcomed and noted my review it didnt meet there standard format and woudlnt be published. So Boots request reviews, but then have control over which the do and dont publish. !!!

I just had the exact same thing happen to me. I bought an item, it was defective out of the box and I contacted the seller immediately. He didn't respond until more than a day later, then tried multiple times over several days to get me to keep the item and give me a partial refund. He told me I could use the accessories for future use (why? I don't own the item, why would I need the accessories??) I kept telling him I wanted to return the item for a full refund - when he finally ran out the clock, he agreed in one word: "OK". I sent the item back and he ran the clock down for two more days, then tried refunding half of my purchase price - and under reason he put "accessories missing" (an outright outrageous lie). I was so angry but I didn't respond to him, I just opened a case on eBay and told them that he was lying about the return, that he tried to make me keep the item and offer a partial refund (without denying that the item was in fact, defective). They ruled in my favor and gave me a full refund. That would have been the end of it but...
I thought I should warn other eBay'ers about this underhanded liar and I put negative FB, but only stated the facts with no abusive language. I only said that the item was defective and that he tried to give me less money back, and wanted me to keep the bad item. I didn't call him a liar in the FB (although he absolutely was) and was very clear and honest about my experience with him. The FB appeared and dropped his score, so imagine my surprise when the next day it was gone, erased from the earth. So this scamming liar gets away with it, and goes on to scam more unsuspecting buyers and keep a nearly perfect FB score. That's what led me to this page in the first place, if only to vent about this outrageous policy. I don't trust FB at all now, after this experience. Caveat Emptor, more than ever here.

Report it to Trading Standards. The more people that do so, the more likely it is that this practice will be stamped out.

When you say 'stamped out' what exactly is your meaning behind this? As in the whole feedback system going? Or the removal side of things being stopped?
Peronsally, I don't think anything changes. eBay has its own laws, always has and very likely always will - they are big fish.

Regulatory pressure and fines, as appropriate. This constitutes misleading business practice. eBay might have its own way of doing things, but it doesn't operate in a legal vacuum. Deliberately misleading potential customers is against the law.

Just to add to that so as to respond to your point about the 'whole feedback system going', no. Feedback systems can be useful. But they have to be used in a way that doesn't mislead. The feedback that I've had deleted includes statements as plain, simple and factual as 'order shown as not having been posted, seller has not responded to correspondence, had to involve eBay to claim a refund'. That can't breach eBay's policy on feedback, yet the feedback is automatically removed and when raising the matter with eBay, I'm told that it breached its guidelines.

You are probably right, but the fact is they do what they do and get away with it. Who is going to take them on. By the same token Ebay apply US law on UK Ebay customers which is contrary to our own consumer laws, and they get away with that as well. There was a time when this forum was controlled by Ebay and they would be involved with customers complaints, then they took the move to allow 'Ebay Members' to have the run of the forum themselves without Ebay involvement, a very clever move. It allowed them to wash their hands of customer complaints.

I'm not a fan of fatalism. If enough people raise the issue with Trading Standards, it will get tackled. And once it makes the press, eBay will be under pressure to change its ways because negative coverage will hit revenue. It's already hitting revenue in that those of us who are wise to the malpractice have vastly reduced our purchases, because we can't trust the system. Imagine that on a macro scale once eBay is publicly shown to be manipulative.

I gave negative feedback after the seller didn't respond to any of my messages and didn't send the item I bought. EBay stepped in and I got a refund. No bad language and just informed other buyers of what happened. Feedback disappeared. I noticed they had similar feedback about a year prior. I think it's shameful they can keep doing that and feedback is removed so other buyers don't know.
