Immediate payment for Buy it Now items - can I cancel this?

I have a regular buyer who is outside the UK. He bids on my weekly auctions and we have agreed that I invoice him every 2 weeks which helps to keep pp costs to a minimum - and this works well for both of us.

However within the 2 weeks when he tries to add a 'buy it now' he is forced to pay immediately - I think this might be a fairly new 'improvement!'by ebay? He has only come up against this recently.

Does anyone know if I can cancel the immediate payment request on my buy it now items?

Hi @gm0tkc , thanks for your post.

You can untick the requirement for an immediate payment in your settings here .

I would also recommend checking your payments' policy to see if the ' Require immediate payment when buyer uses Buy it now' has not been ticked.

Immediate payment for Buy it Now items - can I cancel this?

Hi Anita

Many thanks for your response.

I have checked and the 'require payment' box has not been ticked.

The most recent occasion was when I sent him an offer and was told he had
to pay. - I wonder if that might be the problem? I seem to remember a
change recently making it necessary to pay immediately in 'offer' cases.
This is ironic -- he is in NZ at has problem baying any of mt BINs - but
was able to buy if I sent him an offer!

It is a p[roblem since we have an arrangement for fortnightly invoices for
auction and BIN items - and this arrangement has worked well(until now!)

Regards

Tom

Hi @gm0tkc , thanks for your reply.

I would recommend then checking your requirements for buyers to provide a payment method for offers or auctions here > Buyer rules.

Thank you,

Anita

Hi @gm0tkc ,

I just tried to replicate the issue, and it appears to be working now. I would recommend clearing the cache & cookies / try a different browser to see if that helps.

Thank you,

Anita

Isn't this because your buyer gave ebay a Payment Method in order to be allowed to send their offer.

I seem to remember an earlier thread on the subject of immediate payment on offers where it was mentioned that if buyers gave ebay their Payment Method, sneaky ebay turns that into their default method of payment.

If I'm right there's nothing you, the seller, can do.  The buyer would have to remove the Payment Method provided.  That's assuming ebay will allow them to remove it.

I nearly fell foul of this when making an offer, but had read the thread before-hand so didn't continue to make the offer.  I couldn't as until I gave ebay a funding source, I wasn't allowed to make the offer.

Getting a similar problem... Sent an offer to a buyer not realising it now requires immediate payment. He wants to pay in two days which is fine. Option for immediate payment is off so I altered the price to the amount he wanted to offer but still it's asking for immediate payment. 😞

There have been a number of similar reports regarding this.  It isn't currently clear whether it's a new procedure that eBay is trialling, and failed to announce, or just a glitch.

Hi,

I'm having similar problems with buyers having to pay immediately and I'm unable to send an invoice with combined postage. I clicked on the here link you have above but it doesn't bring up an edit payment option. Is this only for business sellers??

Immediate payment for Buy it Now items - can I cancel this?

Hi Anita,
I have the same problem with BIN listing, and two buyers so far wanting to purchase the items from me. They are unable to place their orders without completing the payment. I want to provide them with a correct postage costs instead of default and give them a discount. Without their orders listed in my seller's hub I cannot issue an invoice. Could you please help me (us) here?

Thanks,

Probably a combination of the two -  ie:  a new procedure that eBay is trialling, which is causing widespread disruption across the site due to the fact that it's constantly glitching!

If it is a straight 'Buy it now' purchase then follow the instructions given in Anita's post above (message #2).  Your buyer should then be able to place the order without paying so that you can send an invoice.

If it is a 'Best offer' then it's no longer possible to send an invoice on acceptance.

The help page on 'Making a Best Offer' has now been updated to reflect the new procedure, so not something that is being trialled anymore.  However, you are right that it is still causing a lot of confusion and disruption.

I did follow Anita's advice to no avail. My preferences are configured as advised. Both my buyers reporting that eBay still requires a payment. One of them even removed his registered payment method and BIN button was no longer available (greyed out).

Any help would be greatly appreciated

See if this helps,  and you may need a PC / laptop and use Chrome , don't use the app for this.

Go to  Shortcuts >> Site Preferences >>  Your Buyers>>  Managing who can Buy from you>>  Edit

Towards the bottom of the page, untick the little box beside this:

Buyer payment requirements
