I'm concerned that there will be an increase in buyers falsely claiming that an item has not arrived or that buyers will forget to mark items they have ordered from private sellers as being received and private sellers will lose the items they have sold, without receiving the payment due on their items.
I am going to have to add tracking to all my items, making the cost higher for buyers.
I don't think this is an improvement for private sellers on Ebay.
Those worries me. I don't see any info yet from Ebay on how private sellers are protected under the new changes to take place from 4th Feb. 2025.

ebay are keeping your money for longer to quell their coffers.
I have three concerns now selling here:
Delay of money
Simply delivery
Introduction of fees for buyers
All three at the same time seems a step too far, I am just going to have to see how this goes.
What are others thoughts?

How to you work out there is a 100% loss? If you are sending restricted items through their network then you can expect no claim to be paid, as with any carrier.
There is £100-£150 worth of cover and EVERY single time we have made a claim we were paid in 14 days with no quibble or hassle.
As long as the item has been shipped to the address on the order the seller is covered on a delivery failure, no matter what you think or nonsense you're trying to spread.
Also when Simple Delivery comes in it will be eBay paying out any claims so the seller won't have the hassle doing a manual claim with RM themselves.

My thoughts are as follows.
Delay of Money: Not too bothered as the buyer will have already paid like now, it's only a bit longer for when EBay releases it to us. Would prefer it to still be like now because we have already agreed when using EBay that they can take money from our account to pay back the user should they not receive an item.
Simple Delivery: This is the one that concerns me, I want to set my own postage and method of sending. I always use Royal Mail as I can send the parcels on my way to work at the post office. I will decline using Simple Delivery as long as we can.
Introduction of fees for Buyer: Really it is again a reintroduction of fees for private sellers. What I mean is that it is only being introduced for purchases from private sellers, buyers won't pay it purchasing from businesses. Saying that the fee is for buyers protection when buying from private sellers is rubbish because they had the same protection from private sellers as businesses if the item wasn't as described. When I sell something as buy it now I look at what has sold before, there is no point listing something at £30 pound if all the ones sold at £20. So If I want my item to sell at £20 I'll have to list it at £18.60 so when EBay add on the 4% + £0.75 it will be £20. As for auctions generally they find their own level, so now if I start one off at £5 and it would get bid up to £20, or whatever the item would normally attract, I would get £20. When the buyer fee is introduced I start it at £5 but Ebay show the buyer £5.95, which is fine but when it reaches their level, if that is £20, I wouldn't get that £20 I would get about £18.60. Which, if my maths is correct, is still more than I would receive under the old seller fees, not including any of the 70% off fees promotions obviously.

Alter despatch time to 15 working days and don't send till YOUR money arrives, no other online sales platform expects sellers to send before payment.

You will then receive constant item not received cases, and your selling account would be heading for a permanent ban.
Tracking showing delivery releases the payout 2 days after that delivery date. That is quicker than waiting as you suggest, (15) , 14 days for your payment.

You are allowed to list up to 40 days despatch Ebay Rules.
Clearly stated on listings , I only use stamps for low cost items so tracking is not an option due to cost.
So no,
"not received cases, and your selling account would be heading for a permanent ban". I would be operating within Rules. Also I have a large supply of stamps to use.
My work around works for me, thanks to Ebay's brilliant Idea my buyers have to wait two weeks.
01-03-2025 1:11 PM
That idea is ok if you don't mind extremely low sales or a high cancellation rate.
Most buyers would simply not want to wait 2 or 3 weeks to receive items.
There are constant complaints in the forums from members who are used to Amazon Prime and genuinely expect that the items they buy from private sellers on Ebay will arrive the next day.
We are nearly a month into the new system and, personally, it is working fine for me.
I don't have staff to pay or stock to buy and payments are now coming in regularly and when expected.

The options are simple:
Accept the new payment rules or stop selling on Ebay.
If you set a 15 day despatch, and don't send until you get paid, you will still be waiting 14 days after the sale.
With updated tracking, you will be paid 48 hours after the item is delivered.
03-03-2025 9:29 PM
I took the stop selling option for now,
Second point I don't send until I receive payment , that is within the new rules,
Can you name another selling platform that sends before payment.
My stamps were 70p when bought 48h tracking £2.80 thanks for your advice, Quadrupling the price of my postage great idea, never thought of that.
04-03-2025 7:57 AM
Not sending until you personaly receive payment is not in the new rules and will get you into trouble.
04-03-2025 8:10 AM
I can imagine buyers will be claiming not received just as they are posting the items and then they will lose the item and the money.

I was advising you about Ebay's policy rather than advising you to use a more expensive service. I hope you didn't send any of the items you sold this year with a 75p stamp on!
Most services offer notification of delivery.
So, if you posted using RM second class parcel, and added the tracking number to Ebay, you would be paid 48 hours after tracking showed delivery. You could even use lots of stamps to post the item.
To be honest, I have almost always posted sold items before receiving payment from Ebay.
Previously, my auction items ended on a weekend day, I posted on a Monday and then got my weekly payment on a Tuesday.
The new system is not what I would have chosen but, a month in, it is working for me.
Obviously, it is not working for everybody.
04-03-2025 8:27 AM
The way it works
Buyers pay when they placer an order
Ebay then hold the money until you deliver that item.
If tracked you get that money in 2 days
If not you get it in 2 weeks
If under £10 you get money on positive feedback 2days later.
so buyer has always paid
Other platforms that hold your money Amazon, vinted, Depop. And ton others ant that handle the exchange of money or involve a pay-out timescale.
04-03-2025 8:33 AM
but what buyer will buy with a 40 day despatch, i know i certainly would not. 5 days is the longest i will wait, as as a seller i actually put two days. I also do not pay for tracking and i use the Certificate of posting tracking number that i get by handing the parcel over the counter for them to label. That has worked well for me. Only 1 out of 12 items so far has not been marked as delivered since this started.
04-03-2025 8:35 AM
where do you get the 'most' from? We may not like the wait but i think that MOST who remain on the site will do it.
04-03-2025 8:36 AM
can you name another site with such a big network of potential customers?
