I have just sold and electric bike on eBay, the guy has paid me. I can see the money pending in my eBay account , He is miles away from me for him to collect in person. He has arranged a third party company “ porta delivery “ he’s sent me a screen shot of the arranged collection, which shows my address and his address . My question is. As I’ve not used eBay for some time now, when the courier comes I’m told he will have a collection code. When I get this code, before I hand over the bike which is really expensive, do I put the code in on eBay ? Then will I get some sort of confirmation straight away ? So I can let the bike go ?does this code immediately release the money so I can then get the money pending put in my own bank account ? Or can they somehow intercept when the code is given and cancel their payment , meaning I will have no bike and no money for it leaving me in limbo ? Any advice please ?

Send the buyer a message that the courier Has to have that code to bring with him, that the bike will not be released with it.
When you get the code scan it or enter the numbers manually in the order details to the left of ....Confirm Collection. This is your only proof the item was collected.
The buyer sending a third party to collect their item voids all protection under eBay's 30 day MBG, Money Back Guarantee.

Just in case others read this. Private sellers are not allowed to sell electric bikes on ebay, by listing in the normal bike category ebay didn't spot your listing.
Your money will be released even without the collection code, you just have to wait longer.

That's a top dollar bike at nearly £4k.
So, you must not hand it over without first getting the collection code and applying it so that the status of the order changes to collected.
Your buyer cannot then try and get a refund via an eBay not received claim. In theory, you should be covered by eBay against a not as described claim because a third party is collecting, but as @papso22 has pointed out, private sellers can't list these type of bikes so you may not be covered.
You should also be aware that if your buyer funded that payment with a debit or credit card they can issue a not as described chargeback via their card provider within 120 days and get a full refund (leaving you wondering how you might be able to get your bike back too).

I would also err on caution with the Porta Delivery - its a crowd sourced company, so it will be based on a driver who is passing your area and pick the item up. Have they or will they have the correct methods of securing item etc and insurance for that matter.

Good Morning Oddy
I can see this sale ending in tears. I find it both worrying and odd that someone would buy an item costing £3200.00 without wishing to see it, examine it and ask a series of questions.
You have been given sound advice by TG and others re the QR code,do follow it. That said you might wish to read a post that I made last week regarding the dangers of QR codes.
As I see it there are a whole number of scenarios that could unfold here leaving you without the bike and the money.
Have you had a look at your buyer's feedback, both left and received?
All I can say is good luck with the sale, (you might need it).

PS Why didn't he catch the train to your local station and ride the bike home?

A very sensible decision.

I just had a bad feeling about it, and some of my family have been victims

The guy is prob a decent honest guy, but you have to ask the question ,
why go to the hassle of buying used one from so far away from where they
live. There must be bike shops near him that have new bikes for not much
more than what he was paying for mine plus the hassle of arranging a
courier.
If anyone else offers to buy it, I will ensure they come and view it first.
And not third party delivery.

Buyers can't view before paying, but anyway, you can't relist as you are not allowed to sell it on ebay.

'Why am I not allowed to sell it on eBay ? There’s lots of them on there ?'
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
They're on there because ebay haven't caught up with those listings yet/ they've not been reported yet.
Even if you could sell it on ebay, viewing first is impossible because the buyer and seller are unable to swap contact details, address phone etc, until the item has actually been *paid for*. (through the ebay system; cash upon collection is not allowed and without contact details, impossible)
If I were you I'd sell it on farcebook; for CASH!!

Listed again under 'bikes' [of the push bike type].

That probably wasn't very wise. He may have got away with it once, but, knowing what some of the posters on here are like, I wouldn't be surprised if the new listing is reported pretty soon.

Given the significance of this policy for safety reasons, the OP is being very foolish to deliberately avoid Ebay's policy by using the wrong category.
