The NEW LOOK eBay

Simple question. Do you think these new changes they have introduced a good or a terrible move?

For me personally they are bad because I will have to leave.

Simple Delivery just doesn't work for what I sell, lots of people on here saying the same.

Big question is what are the benefits for buyers or sellers cannot see any myself?

Re: The NEW LOOK eBay

Not a single benefit to anyone that any of us can work out. Oh wait, ebay gets more money! So it benefits them 🙂

Re: The NEW LOOK eBay

well i suppose that it could be a benefit to me if i got a label from e bay - oh wait, i would still have to go into the post office to send it...   Not interested in the collection feature.  That assumes my printer would be working as well (no smart phone so Q code not viable.   Would cost more as i do not send tracked as well, i see no need for it on most of the items i sell.  Then of course there is the fact that even if you opt out of EVRI e bay can still override you and i would not want to give that organisation one penny (whether mine or the buyers).    I have always fitted my shopping days around my posting days so not going out of my way to post anything either.   I could do it but i will not, i want to give my money direct to the local post office not e bay.

Re: The NEW LOOK eBay

As a small private seller, trying to offload a sizable coin collection, which to be honest I am not worried if they go or not as there are other avenues to use, eBay seems to have lost the edge in many respects. It used to be the place to go to find interesting, good price rare collectables. The buyer just don't seem to be there any more and this is only in the last, say 3/4 months. As an experiment I listed an expensive set of coins on here and on another, less popular but similar site. In 3 days, views on eBay were zero but the other ( less popular) site 4 views. Now, I know the chances of my item selling on the ''other'' site are very low, but at least it is getting seen, so logic states the chances of selling are higher than ZERO views on eBay.

I'm overall negative on SD however I cam see how some sellers would benefit from having it as an option in particular where they already used Evri apparently its cheaper and also because the buyer pays SD to ebay not the seller it would not contribute to the seller's £1k per tax year trading allowance.

Re: The NEW LOOK eBay

I've benefitted from finding or re-finding other places to shop online. I've also discovered new items that I hadn't realised were available when eBay was basically my one-stop shop.

Re: The NEW LOOK eBay

There are no benefits to buyers or sellers and ebay will feel the negative knock on effects  when large amounts of users jump ship if they don't at least make SD optional very soon.

There is no benefit to Buyers or Sellers.

eBay may have thought it would benefit themselves, but if Sellers are stopping selling & Buyers going elsewhere there is no benefit all round.

There needs to be a re-think.

Re: The NEW LOOK eBay

I would much prefer to retain control of my own postage preferences and routines.

However, I can see that SD could benefit many sellers, and that it may also benefit buyers through the standardisation of postage prices.

It doesn't suit me, due to the nature of the items I generally sell (large letters, many under 100g).

If we're being honest, I think most people would agree that it's the loss of control that's the issue, rather than any of the workings of SD (with the caveat that the "teething troubles" are sorted out - some of the pricings need attention, as do issues of accessibility and courier suitability).

'.....also because the buyer pays SD to ebay not the seller it would not contribute to the seller's £1k per tax year trading allowance.'

S.D. is only on private accounts though.... if you're using your trading allowance, you have to be *trading*.

I.e. a business.

So as benefits go, I think that one's a non-starter.

"I think most people would agree that it's the loss of control that's the issue, rather than any of the workings of SD"

For me, it's the hassle.  Why on earth would I find it simpler to pre-pack something before listing it, and have to weigh and measure it, instead of waiting until it's sold before packing it, and then dropping it off at the Post Office for them to weigh/measure.

And let's look at the actual process of printing out the label.  My new-ish computer won't talk to my existing printer, so I'd have to get out and fire up my old computer, try and find the label on ebay, with luck print it out on to an A4 sheet of paper (using up my own paper and toner), get some scissors to cut round the address, get some sellotape, cut up 4 strips and then stick the paper down.  How the bleep, bleep is that simpler than just handwriting the address.

It makes my blood boil when I think about how stupid ebay must think we are by calling it Simple Delivery and thinking we'll fall for it.

I'm sorry but I really need to use some smilies cos I'm very cross now just thinking about it 😡😡😡

Re: The NEW LOOK eBay

Have tried the same thing as you, on another site an item had 10 views in 2 days, ebay had 0.

ebay used to be the go to place but maybe times are changing.

Guess if there's any probs along the way then ebay are meant to step in and sort it out rather than contacting the courier directly could be a benefit. But is having to wait 6/7 days for your money worth it? guess only time will tell on that one.

Re: The NEW LOOK eBay

^ Having got that off my chest, and back on topic...

The benefit for me, now that I'm not buying on ebay because of SD, is that I've been using google/shopping instead of ebay, and when checked against the same item on ebay, I've been able to buy cheaper in some instances and at the same price in others.

Re: The NEW LOOK eBay

A lot of the items I've sold now and in the past, Im still able to use the large letter. I've just completed a sale using SD for the first time and it worked quite well. I sold some books, the buyer picked Evri. the package weighed just over 1kg but ebay recommend under 1kg so i used their recommendation. The buyer bought and paid on the 8th May, I sent it out that afternoon and it was delivered around 3.00pm yesterday! NEVER had any thing delivered that quick before.

This a hundred times over.

The patronising garbage they expect us to be stupid enough to believe is the biggest problem I have with most of the changes.

It all so bl**dy insulting.

Re: The NEW LOOK eBay

S.D. is only on private accounts though

For now !!!!!!!

- when i asked a Community Manager when it was to be launched for Business Sellers- they said it was not in plans.

Although i did receive a 'survey' kinda thing asking if id use it.

Take that to mean what you like.

Re: The NEW LOOK eBay

not sure about the 'standardisation of postage prices'.  Why should someone have to pay more because they do not want to touch EVRI?  I know exactly what my items are going to cost when i walk into the PO so nothing to standarise!

Wow... if ebay make this site-wide,  can you imagine World of Books or Music Magpie being dicatated to and 'doing as they're told' ?1    😲😂

They already have huge presence all over the place, so they'd just stick their fingers up and take their masssive profit making machines away, surely ?

Yes, one of the more surprising benefits has been that more longterm users are increasingly discovering a life beyond Ebay?

They're way too modest to claim credit but it's all thanks to Ebay's Offline Wellness Team... 😁
