DROP IN SALES SINCE NEW BUYER PROTECTION 4TH FEB 2025

Has anyone else noticed lack of sales since the buyer protection update 4th february 2025. I used to sell quite a lot and virtually sold nothing since 4th Feb. Can anyone else relate to this and what can we do?

Hi Yes   They add the  'protection fee'  at the point of listing      hence i sell  a badge for £ 1.29  it shows on the listing  for  £2.07    Its a scam   and protection from what ?

Re: DROP IN SALES SINCE NEW BUYER PROTECTION 4TH FEB 2025

Well I suppose it was to good to be true when fees for private sellers were abolished .

The buyer protection isn’t really that as again if you are still active we know that ultimately the seller will get lumbered with the refund .
It’s just effectively a discounted set of percentage fees with a large fixed transaction fee , I don’t know how many private sales there are a day but times it by .75p and it must add up to a decent sum , across the world there are supposedly about 2 billion transactions a day , mostly business I guess .

On their side the cost of doing business in the UK alone is no doubt quite eye watering .

Re: DROP IN SALES SINCE NEW BUYER PROTECTION 4TH FEB 2025

simple delivery is only items up £750 and also simple delivery is not available for international items. some my items cost a fortune to pay uk and ive got items over £750 in value whihc don't quaify for simple delivery. one such item of £1,250 value that I had to take off ebay was going to cost £65 uk to uk, £165 usa/can/£295 Australia due to the large size of box and  weight as well pushes cost costs sky higher especially on very high value items. i don't have that kind of money available to pay a courier. somebody else was complaining on ebay complaints facebook page about it today that she has no money to pay the courier & ebay are boldling all funds. as said i'ts only on items up to royal mails medium parcel size under  £750. i can't get a straight forward answer from ebay as to why they don't offer couriers lie parcelfroce who deal with larger sized items over £750 to as much as £2.500. a lot of my buyers have been from abroad and like I said there is no simple delivery for abroad and it's to costly to post some of my other items, so i've had to list them n other platfroms taking paypal payment in which anyone can send you the full amount including all postage costs, you just send one amount of money and your protected as a buyer or seller through paypal the same as ebay, except there it's free no stupid buyer's fee's, only sellers pay a small amount in fees through paypal payment alone and it was never as high as ebay sellers fees used to be.

Re: DROP IN SALES SINCE NEW BUYER PROTECTION 4TH FEB 2025

yes ive definitely noticed a big drop off though a slight recovery in last 2 weeks to still only about half the level i had in january. but even worse the new so called simple delivery is just a nonsense to me who has always and wants to continue to use royal mail core options and no qr codes or printing labels it is likely to stop me using ebay altogether and very soon if i can find no way round it

yes a total scam. any responsible seller and most of us are would just give a refund anyway if there is a problem. ebay are behaving like a certain american gentleman....

I sell to raise money for charity. 100% of the proceeds go to the charity. I am not a business.

Re: DROP IN SALES SINCE NEW BUYER PROTECTION 4TH FEB 2025

My items are from 99p upwards max £35. I guess it’s not worth it to buyers as I’m most cases it’s now double with a 75p starter fee for an item costing 99p.

Yes the majority of ebayers fall in this bracket. So ebay is losing a LOT of business…

Re: DROP IN SALES SINCE NEW BUYER PROTECTION 4TH FEB 2025

I think the same. I’m looking at other options as my house is filling up with donations and I attend church on Sundays so can’t do Car Boots regularly.
What is this customer protection anyway. I have come across a few buyers who either don’t pay or say there’s something wrong with an item to get to keep it and be refunded. You can’t write negative comments about these buyers. It’s just another money maker for eBay which looks as if is back firing.
The other problem I have is that postage is now limited to RM and Evri in my experience when listing a product. I personally don’t like Evri, but don’t appear now to have a choice.
Sorry for rant, but I initially thought it was my items, which up under recently have sold well.
All the best

Re: DROP IN SALES SINCE NEW BUYER PROTECTION 4TH FEB 2025

is no rant christine. we are all in same boat i think or most of us here. i
dont think ebay care in the slightest. they seem to only want big business
sellers rather than low value stuff.

i will list a few more items up to 15 april i think and then after that i
suspect it wont be possible. it is already not possible to say you have
successfully posted an item unless you have used evri etc. this may course
me problems unless every purchaser says they have received the item and
gives me positive feedback otherwise i suspect i wont get paid.

soon after 15 april i will have no choice but to suspend or even close my
account i think. i suspect at a minimum there must be tens of thousands of
us in the uk in this position. i suspect many younger ebayers will just go
with the flow though

interested in any solutions people out there see and alternative options
for myself though i wont regularly be replying to all these messages

good luck!

guy

Re: DROP IN SALES SINCE NEW BUYER PROTECTION 4TH FEB 2025

Thank you. As I said I sell for charity 100% goes to the charity, there must be hundreds of sellers that use eBay to for the same purpose. Very sad, I thought eBay wanted to help charities and prevent items going into landfill.
Everything seems to be going against working people in the UK. A lot of families rely on the eBay platform form to provide clothes, footwear, home wear etc because they can’t afford to pay retail prices.
Another nail in the coffin for us. Very disappointing.

Re: DROP IN SALES SINCE NEW BUYER PROTECTION 4TH FEB 2025

That's the way 7 days to get paid just dosnt make sense taking our postage options away Royal mail 48 dosnt not load tracking for days and it's slow.

Re: DROP IN SALES SINCE NEW BUYER PROTECTION 4TH FEB 2025

I think I will use Vinted. I have heard good reports on their website. As all my sales are 100% for charity I have not paid listing costs. Are sellers having to still pay listing costs?
