DROP IN SALES SINCE NEW BUYER PROTECTION 4TH FEB 2025

Has anyone else noticed lack of sales since the buyer protection update 4th february 2025. I used to sell quite a lot and virtually sold nothing since 4th Feb. Can anyone else relate to this and what can we do?

Well.. that seems to be it with ebay! 24 years ain't been to bad I suppose! 🙄 Very frustrating though! I don't think its the buyer protection fee that is destroying private sellers, rather the fact that they are trying to recoup the costs on allowing private sellers to list for free by forcing us to promote our listings. They must have an algorithm that deliberately prevents buyers from viewing private seller listings thereby forcing us to pay the fees to promote them! 6 weeks and counting from the changes and sales completely gone!  😠

Re: DROP IN SALES SINCE NEW BUYER PROTECTION 4TH FEB 2025

I was searching DVD’s yesterday whilst I was scanning into Ziffit and I’m seeing private seller new DVD’s with the great price badge even when they are more expensive than the business seller’s. They are also appearing higher on lowest price search. Someone a few weeks ago was showing how it was happening on trading cards too so presumably it is going on across the board.

I don’t search often but I don’t get the impression they are hiding listings. Rather they made private sellers less competitive in lower priced items and then distorted the search so now it is ordered by how much fees the item is worth to eBay over what is best for the buyer. As if buyers won’t notice!

Re: DROP IN SALES SINCE NEW BUYER PROTECTION 4TH FEB 2025

my sales are unlikly to be wound up in any alogorythm as the items are generaly quite uniquie, but sales have tailed off over the last 18 months

With manipulation of shippping and other issues, Its not worth the effort

My stuff generaly ends up going to charity now, which is good, probably came from there as not buying on ebay much now

Yes definitely.  I'm a private seller and was selling multiple items per week, had a huge clear out so had lots to sell, maybe a week would go by without selling anything then 4 or 5 items would sell over a weekend. But now, I've sold 3 things in a month! On top of that been getting lots of stupid low offers and of course buyers are offering lower now to incorporate the bpf.

Re: DROP IN SALES SINCE NEW BUYER PROTECTION 4TH FEB 2025

What you said just about sums up every other private sellers present
experiences. Eventually this will lead to a big decline in private sellers
staying on this platform and for ebay to have dreamt up such an idiotic
decision will be one of the biggest mistakes they have ever made! Unless
of course there is method in their madness and they have deliberately
willed it that way just to be rid of private sellers!

Re: DROP IN SALES SINCE NEW BUYER PROTECTION 4TH FEB 2025

Yes, my sales have slumped. Adding that margin or price increase on my items, most of which are priced between £1.50 and £4.39 under the claim of a buyer’s protection payment , whatever that is, seem absurd and counter-productive.
Now, on top of that, comes eBay taking control of my postage options, adding another layer of costs and inconvenience.
Given I have over 600 items for sale, mostly CDs, I am strongly considering transferring the lot to Amazon, from where I buy my used CDs usually.

Re: DROP IN SALES SINCE NEW BUYER PROTECTION 4TH FEB 2025

I send Royal Mail too, so I don't know exactly what will happen on the
15th April! All I do know is that ebay have found yet another way to
enable them to take control and impose their will on private sellers in
addition to the Buyer Protect Fee! One is forced to the conclusion that
these discriminatory moves are deliberately designed to get Private Sellers
off the site, and to this extent I think they are already having some
degree of success!
Prior to the beginning of February things were ticking over quite nicely
with me, but since then I have had little or no sales. and are now reaching
the point of no return! Having been here for over 20 years I previously
had no concerns!
Much of my sales have been LP records and DVD's. The LP's I will either
sell on Discogs or to private sellers that I have as regular contacts. The
DVD's will probably end up in the charity shops unless they happen to be
rare out of print films that have become collectable!
So, to put it bluntly. it is all down to corporate greed and ebay have shot
themselves in the foot!! You won't hear Business Sellers speaking out
against these measures because they are doing quite nicely thank you! So,
it boils down to a case of everyone for themselves and I'm alright Jack!

Re: DROP IN SALES SINCE NEW BUYER PROTECTION 4TH FEB 2025

I asked the same question because I use RM too and there's a parcel drop box/delivery office literally across the road from me so only wanted to use RM and apparently they are one of the couriers you can choose from or will be able to choose from.

Re: DROP IN SALES SINCE NEW BUYER PROTECTION 4TH FEB 2025

There are those of us on the business side of things that think the changes have been bad and said so. Anything that upsets buyers is a bad thing and BPF is a bad thing. Although it doesn't apply to business listings it is driving buyers away from the site, it's an assumption to think that they will buy from businesses instead of private sellers. I don't think much of the monetary hold as to my mind it makes private sellers less likely to spend their money on ebay, especially when they've had to wait for an extended period to get it.  As for simple delivery I wouldn't want it on my account and consider it to be intrusive in to choices that should be for the seller to make, be it business or private.

Re: DROP IN SALES SINCE NEW BUYER PROTECTION 4TH FEB 2025

I've just received this email.  Looks like they've had to have bit of a re-think .Some things (e.g. Rm collect) not as bad as expected BUT it will be important to guess weight and measurements of parcel and include them in listing to avoid being caught short on postage.

Re: DROP IN SALES SINCE NEW BUYER PROTECTION 4TH FEB 2025

I certainly don’t want to use EVRI they are poor , I buy discounted stamps so I don’t want their post office deal or them recommending sizes ,I pack my expensive items very well and they will exceed Ebays suggested dimensions .

I have some very small items less than £10 my price but I wonder if their 10 is including their extra fees .

They really have become a pain in the backside as a platform.
