As the title suggests, please read below.
Starting from 4 February, Buyer Protection will be live to give buyers more peace of mind when shopping on ebay.co.uk. To minimise any potential disruption on our platform, the Buyer Protection fee will be gradually rolled out across items listed by private sellers, starting in Electronics and coming to all eligible categories in the following weeks.

Nothing like changing the roll-out at the last minute 😞
Why can eBay not decide what they are going to do, then make a clear announcement telling us when and how. This looks really unprofessional, as if they kind of made a decision, but are now not so sure if it will work or not.

Omg and i've taken most off and gone on holiday they are pathetic. The SD will still finish me on here anyway

I’ve ended mine already (clothes and craft materials) Mostly because of the upcoming SD though so it makes no difference.
I did buy a few low priced things yesterday as they’ll go up. Looks like I’ll have a few more days of being able to do that 🤷🏻♀️

You don't HAVE to use Simple Delivery, you can opt out of it when you list an item

You don't HAVE to use Simple Delivery, you can opt out of it when you list an item...

That is the current ruling but it is going to be mandatory at some point (according to the CEO)

For now, yes.
Sometime in the next 7-8 weeks that won’t be true. When mandatory SD comes in sometime this quarter it will apply to all eligible items listed by all private sellers. No opt out.
What options are shown to buyers will differ by geographical area but none of us will be in control of postage by the end of March. That’s not far away, close enough for me to decide I’m done today.

Maybe signs of panic already? However it's the having to potentially wait two weeks for your money that is the killer for me. Hopefully there will be a rollback on that too.

When you’re selling a single item for £10 or less, and it’s sent untracked, funds will now be available 24 hours after you receive positive buyer feedback. This will be live by the end of February.
As we all know buyers rarely leave feedback these days. I assume if they don't leave feedback the 14 day rule will apply
03-02-2025 5:26 PM
There’ll be frustrated sellers begging for feedback, (as if there aren’t enough of those already). I don’t usually leave feedback and that won’t change, should I decide to come back.
If I left the requested feedback for everything I buy/use it would be a full time job.

Its being rolled out to everything else though they say eligible....but that means basically everything ither than cars etc
Also its not just that fee that is rhe issue its the needing to send cheap things tracked to get money at a earlier date than 2 weeks...which itself will stop most cheap sales as buyers won't pay it

They have left the door slightly open if it proves to be a disaster.

I think they have chosen a category that not many private sellers list in, so that they can do a test and learn before rolling it out gradually.
I think that's a sign of sense, not a sign that they won't do it across the board.

So they have left the door slightly open if it proves to be a disaster.

Of course, it may have nothing to do with a change of mind on eBay's part. They just might not be ready to implement such an enormous change.
In any case, I feel sorry for those private sellers who have put an effort into their listings, expecting their prices to be increased at midnight tonight.
It's really unforgiveable that eBay gave less than twelve hours notice of their failure/climbdown (delete as you think necessary). Shocking mismanagement.

That announcement makes interesting reading, especially this bit...
'By removing barriers for private sellers and making it free to sell and simpler to list, we’ve seen many more sellers join the platform to bring buyers the unique inventory that they love. Buyer Protection is the next step, to ensure they keep coming back.'
I'm not sure what the 'barriers' for private sellers were, and I can't say I find it 'simpler to list' these days. And will Buyer Protection ensure buyers keep coming back, when they have to pay for it?!
03-02-2025 6:45 PM
And the source of that from the CEO ?
03-02-2025 6:46 PM
Can you direct me to an official Ebay source stating that ?

Leaving feedback takes seconds......
