How do I get rid of this supremely annoying thing? It's only been there a morning and I'm already sick of having to fetch my mobile phone to get the code. I am not surgically and unhealthily attached to my phone, it is not with me constantly and except for when it rings or buzzes with a text I never look at it. I don't want to have to find it to put in a random code to access my ebay account when I've already put in a password which was working perfectly well on it's own. Why can't people leave things alone? Anyway, how do I turn it off or better still remove it?

I did all this. ebay sent me a msg saying 2 step verification turned off ... only for it to immediately start again

Brilliant. Thank you, worked a treat for me.
Yet another pointless eBay addition.
Shame we as their customers cannot bill them for lost time.

Mine is usually across the room being charged when this all starts. Plus, as I have more than one account I have to go all through this every time I want to look at another one. Some times it's upstairs while I'm downstairs, and vice versa, but even when it is by my side, it is flipping irritating waiting for the bleep and typing in the number. If I'm me now, then I'm me in 2 minutes time, there is no need to keep checking that it is still me. If I am prepared to take a chance that the only other person in the house - my Husband - isn't going to break into my account (he has access anyway) then that should be my choice.

I so agree. Im sure its affecting my mental health as I get so annoyed by this. Let us decide if we want to take extra precautions with security. Seriously, scammer and thieves break into Ebay accounts??? I dont think so.

Oh they do. thing is its not just ebay on with 2step verification, i had it on 7 different sites in 1 day last week
and 1 was even my dentist that sent me a txt code when i logged in

The main issue I have with this apart from the annoyance, is there is no back up method to log in to your ebay account. If you're phone gets stolen or you lose it, you can't get into your ebay account. You then have to open a new ebay account and start again with zero feedback.

I hate the way they refuse to treat us as adults. I can decide my own security measures, in the same way that I can inform my buyers that I have posted their item without ebay telling them I have done so just because I bought a label, making a liar out of me because, obviously, I haven't sent it yet. They also made Royal Mail write it into their accounts that they would inform anyone you buy an address label for that you've posted it.

You need to log in to my ebay to change contact details. Bit hard to do that if you dont have your phone for this stupid 2 step verification.

Lets say you lose your phone or change your number all you have to do is contact ebay to sort it out its no drama. the link is easy enough to find it took me two mins and not on ebay https://www.ebay.co.uk/help/contact_us?id=4797&st=10

You can't do anything using that link unless you are logged in to ebay. If you don't have your phone because lost or stolen you cant get past the verification process.

Ebay needs to add an option so that you can verify using email, if you don't have access to your phone.

I agree 100%.
I've been having this awful INCONVENIENCE for almost 2 years now... everytime I go to log into my PayPal account... I've posted numerous threads to complain about this on PayPal and on here... but they were always ignored or pro-security people start posting saying this 2 step verification is a good thing to keep eveyone safe. It is NOT a good thing !, It is a complete misery and a dictatorship having someone else denying you your right of access to your OWN account and YOUR OWN MONEY !
The correct name for this "thing" is "PSD2", It is part of the EU's rules to keep everyone safe online.
As a UK English citizen who does not like the EU for its over the top policies !, I voted leave back in 23rd June 2016 along with 17.4 million other people because I wanted us to have our own laws and rules without the EU constantly dictating to us everything including now having to follow their silly PSD2 2 step verification rule when the UK left the EU officially on 1 Jan 2021.
So I ask WHY are we now having to still do these 2 step verifications everytime we log into a banking or PayPal site or even eBay ?
As the UK is now out of the EU and no longer an EU member, Why are we still being FORCED to continue with this silly PSD2 2 step verification rule ?
Like others have said on this thread, This 2 step verification should be optional and every UK user should have the right to turn it off if they don't like it or it presents them with a certain degree of inconvenience which effects their quality of using that online service.
I, myself have noticed a massive decline in my eBay sales since this PSD2 2 step verification started and I myself have also been forced to stop going through with an eBay purchase due to having to constantly confirm its really me ! on PayPal to be able be let through into my OWN PayPal account in order to complete my payment for my eBay purchase ! - Not ideal when its 1am in the morning and my phone is in the car and my landline rings loud to wake everyone in the house up !

Ebay is now canceling replies it does not like. I just gets better and better. Will not close my account but will use it as a last resort. Something better will come along as it always has and does, ebay will go down and they have done it to themselves.

Why have they brought it this horrible 2-step verification? Amazon and PayPal also do it. Has someone brought in some kind of law from the EU? On PayPal, the text never arrives half the time. I managed (I think) to turn it off when I could finally log in but it made me late paying for something on there. Good job Ebay don't use paypal anymore

Protection for you. Despite what you want.
Comes in handy sometimes and most people are used to 2 step authentication past few decades.
Bypassing it can cost. Had my cards stolen a few months back, thief tried using them for purchases and because 2 step authentication not needed he would have succeeded before I could get cards blocked. If there had been any money in the accounts.
A few years back he could not even have attempted purchases, 2 step authentication applying to all card transactions in stores.

I was under the impression it was world wide and not just EU.
If it protects from fraud it is a good thing for all of us.
I know how disruptive and costly it can be by having an Amazon account hacked twice through no fault of my own.
What is a problem is the clunky implementation by Ebay.

Has been worldwide for a few decades.
Been using it on paypal since 2010 when someone tried to nick money from bank account via paypal.
Not usually any trouble except in poor phone signal area. These days I use wifi calling so no problem with signal.
