Has anyone managed to get past the age verification issue at the moment.

I am trying to buy a canteen of cutlery. I need to verify my age with a credit card.

I go to the verification page and get an error and am told to contact customer support. I have contacted and had 54 different responses none of which have worked.

Attempting to register the details of a valid credit card to your eBay account can sometimes be problematical when attempting to do so via the app. The first step is to ensure that you have the latest version of the app installed. If this does not prove efficacious, switch to a PC or laptop. If you still encounter difficulties, check that the card IS definitely a credit not debit type, and that the details of the card EXACTLY match those held in your eBay account - e.g Marti on your card and Martyn on eBay will not work for age verification. 

In the following thread you will see screenshots of the process from a PC... it should be an easy process to upload a new card taking a mere minute or so

If you are still seeing an error message it would be best to call CS again at 8 AM to get an agent from the Dublin Centre (excellent service and highly recommended here in the Community) by clicking the following link - if it's anyone else just hang up with "Sorry, wrong number" and try again...

Sorry,  only a ( monthly payment statement ) Credit Card entry to confirm your age is acceptable to eBay --- nothing else will do !! --- an everyday use Debit Card will not be accepted.

I have a credit card on Ebay. I have removed it, re added it, added a new card and still nothing. The last contact with customer service said there was a technical issue which would be resolved in 3 days That was Wednesday. Now Sunday. Myself and the seller are very frustrated.

Gosh, that does sound extremely frustrating!

Silly question perhaps, but when you attempt to pay it is that credit card you can see as an option and use at checkout, or has it not appeared as yet?

I have just had a similar problem on 17/11/2025.  I could not accept an offer from a seller on a reciprocating saw. I got this message:

I tried to send the seller a counter-offer 1p less than his offer, but it would not send. I got this message:

So I figured that age verification was the problem.  I found a way to get around.it.  I pressed the buy-it-now button.  That launched the age verification process.  I entered my credit card details successfully.  But I did not complete the buy-it-now transaction.  I pressed the Review Offer button and then the Go to Checkout button.  It worked first time.

So I think the problem is that the Review Offer process does not launch the age verification window.  It just launches a dead-end warning message with no way to continue.

I have just tried to buy a collectable Romulus popcorn bucket. It is now classed as a bladed article!!!  I now have to verify my age (66) but can only do it with a credit card. I only have a debit card. Why can't I buy a popcorn bucket (empty) on ebay?  Dont you want the business any more? I am heartily sick of ebay and the substandard service it offers. It seems like every time I have been on it in the past year there is something else to get annoyed with. It is just not enjoyable anymore.  I need some time away from this stress.

Yes, all done, there's nothing else I can do really. 
So fully at the mercy of Ebay to resolve this it seems.

Where has this verified age for purchasing a bladed article? As far as ebay advice goes - the only age verification available for purchasing bladed articles is to present evidence of a credit card that matches the user details on the ebay account.

Hi Kat,

There are a number of threads on the community regarding this, dating back to October, and for it still not to be fixed is disgraceful. I've had my ebay account for over 25 years, and I'm 74.  As the error message suggests, I contacted Customer Support, who knew nothing of the problem, and were no help at all.  

- I add the item to my basket, using the "buy it again" link.

- I go to check out

- An Age verification screen pops up because it's a pair of scissors, I click on the link

- I enter the full credit card details (and I've tried four different ones, one Visa, one Mastercard and two Amex (the Visa being the one tied to my eBay account!)

- immediately the error appears. So quickly that I doubt it's actually really doing anything

I have tried many times with 4 different credit cards, 2 different PCs running two different versions of Windows, 2 different browsers, on three different days.  It says "you should contact customer support" - I did but they were useless.
