Just catching up on the latest, wow yet another amazing decision by Ebay that will only annoy business sellers even more and push them away further! More motivation to sell elsewhere.
About 3 years ago I listed something in the wrong category, a genuine mistake, I sold similar on the same item that had sold and the category information had pre-populated... I did not check this.
About an hour after listing it the item was removed for being in the wrong category and I was banned from listing any new items for a week as a form of punishment to make me learn my lesson I guess.
At the time it really annoyed me as I had no way intended to intentionally sell something (it was a manual for a watch) in the incorrect category (listed in watches and not the parts section...)
But now businesses who have been selling on private accounts and have intentionally being doing so in many instances for years and getting 70-80% off their final value fees have finally been told by Ebay they have to change their account to a business account.
Why are they being rewarded with no fees whatsoever until the end of the year, it is absolutely insane. Who in their right mind thought that this would be a good idea and go unnoticed and undiscussed by the community?
They should be forced to change to a busines account with immediate effect and with no deal or incentive to do so.
As a correctly registered seller I get punished for making some pathetic error yet these sellers who have taken away our business, manipulated the Ebay fees system to minimise their costs, lowered Ebays revenue, flooded Ebay with duplicated items and who have been allowed to operate illegally by not accepting returns get rewarded?
Don't worry about them going elsewhere Ebay, so what if they do, if everyone had to pay the same fees that us business sellers pay and not have free fees for the rest of the year your increased revenue would more than make up for those who jump ship...
So much to say on this it is crazy! I genuinely do not think it will even cause Ebay that much of a drop in revenue all this malarky, you know why... If there are 50 of the same item listed and some sellers leave and there are now only 25 of that item listed instead, guess what... You can still buy the same item on Ebay!
Ebay will then make more money because the item FVF will be the correct amount from a correctly registered seller rather than someone who has no fees or reduced FVF.
Say there are 10,000 private sellers who have had this email, they all have 100 items listed each, how many of them realistically are one off items that no one else has available - I'd be guessing not many.
To those genuine private sellers being forced to do this, not good and if it were me I would take the deal and sell everything I needed to get rid of by the end of the year to incur no fees and clear out my wares.
