Ebay Sales Completely Dead **November 2024** ‌

Hi

We have been selling on ebay for over 10 years. Sales have been down since start of 2024 but its completely dead. Like we look at our stats from July to September and sales figures are less that what we are paying ebay for Promoted listings etc.

Although we have moved our inventory to Amazon and tiktok but wondered what has actually happened to our Ebay. It used to be aweseome but we now cannot even afford to list.  Listings are sat there doing nothing even with promoted listings.

November has been our difficult month so far as with Zero sales i mean come on there got to be something causing this loss. Is it new so called AI.

Started to pick up a little but we are down 50% on last year.

I think the budget and the impending likely war with Russia (the way its going) is playing on peoples minds also.

The no sales problem on eBay has been going on for quite a while... since 2020/21 onwards...

Every April since then sales decline by 50% for me; remember the category changes, then the advanced promotions, each time obliterating my business. At one point, if I had an international seller swirched on, my impressions dropped massively.

Actually, I've noticed this. I sell coin keyrings & pendants. If I listed similar items one after the other (i.e. a coin of the same demonination & date but in two different settings) the first listing would do fine re views, watchers & sales but the second would be a dead loss. I started listing similar items on seperate days and they all started performing roughly equally.

What happens if you look for your items then click on lowest price, do any disappear into ebays magic filter?

I just checked in Chrome incognito but no I can still see mine.  The results did go down from 79 to 64 though.  That said, ebay showed this message at the top of the results..."We’ve streamlined your search results to show you the best listings. See more results".  When I clicked on "see more results" it went back to 79.

Yep, ebay graciously filtered all my listings of one type out except one listing, my sales on that product have died...i'll give it until the new year and they will be having a trip to the tip.

The lack of ebay sales have got nothing to do with the economy/budget. Went shopping yesterday and of the 8 shops we visited only pets at home was quiet. Saw a lady leaving Argos with her arms full of goods.

I see this with similar listings .. actually only 1 item in every 8 gets
views so they end with zero views! I had to start selling multiple of the
same because that item would sell until sold out.. before promoted listings
I would get 100s of views and sell before the end of day of listing! I
couldn’t keep up.. soon as promoted was introduced I had no sales for two
weeks and I had to figure out I needed to promote..downhill since then..
eBay was a joy before promoted but now it’s a slog and a worry!

Private sellers also have the option to " promote listings" and since that introduction I have noticed the very same... no views, sales etc. I know it is not the same as a business seller, but it definitely shows that something is amiss and not working for both private and business sellers.  

Ebay have  also started to send me " stats" with images of my listings and suggestions on how to " improve" my photographs/ description ( use A.I.  Pay for promoted listings ETC)  for optimum sales. 

I am not a business so why on earth would I need these suggestions to " improve" when if there are zero views, of course there would be zero sales. 

It is madness.

Many are choosing to buy in store, and use cash now that the CBDC;s are becoming more known about.

I have one item to sell on my private account, first time listed no sale, this time around it's been on for over two weeks, no views, etc.......but next to the listing is a "promote" box to click on, so basically it's free to list if private but they hope to make money through you paying anyway.

I understand your frustration.  How does ebays' algorithm decide what is a "best listing" and what isn't?  Also, if you are being filtered out under certain search criteria then you're not getting the service you pay for.  Technically, people will be able to find you if they're prepared to go the extra "faff".

I can't prove a thing but yes.  If you have similar items to sell don't put them up at the same time.  Space them out a bit.  I prefer 24 hours but whatever suits.
