Hi
We have been selling on ebay for over 10 years. Sales have been down since start of 2024 but its completely dead. Like we look at our stats from July to September and sales figures are less that what we are paying ebay for Promoted listings etc.
Although we have moved our inventory to Amazon and tiktok but wondered what has actually happened to our Ebay. It used to be aweseome but we now cannot even afford to list. Listings are sat there doing nothing even with promoted listings.
November has been our difficult month so far as with Zero sales i mean come on there got to be something causing this loss. Is it new so called AI.
Please share your findings.🤔🤔

Exactly. I've been selling off my glass for ten years. I've done a few experiments on two sites over that time.
Offering different services, quicker services, even "Free Post". No matter what RM 2nd Class is the one that 99% of my buyers opt for, including me when I buy from other sellers of glass.
It's a good compromise of relatively cheap, relatively quick delivery and being RM rather than a cheapo courier, relatively safe and reliable. In all that time they haven't lost or broken anything I've bought or sold. But I suspect because it doesn't fit ebays "Get it Tomorrow" agenda it might not even be on ebay's list of options to my buyers, which IMO will mean even fewer sales than now.

I've considered and chosen, if I can't sell my way on ebay, I won't sell on ebay.

I agree. I have had to accept many changed on the site but i will not be dictated to how i post and what courier/service i use.

My sentiment exactly.

Hi which platforms are booming ? Thanks

One of the bad changes has been making it impossible for a buyer to reach a live agent.A buyer should be able to reach a live agent to address they're concerns directly and instantly.Msny are discouraged to press Contact us and it sends you to read essays that have nothing to do with the buyers concern or directing you to a mindless chat..it just adds to the hopelessness and discourages the buyer.Im talking about the person who is considering a high ticket item and needs some human confirmation from someone other than seller and those in charge to confirm it is ok and covered to spend $1500 on the item.

I have no idea as only on this eBay , but have seen other posters speak of increased sales at Vinted.. I am going to check them out in the New year when I close off here.

It is interesting that eBay consider themselves all " inclusive" and yet are excluding options for many.
Even with their sponsoring with Purple Tuesday to access the lucrative " disabled" buyers market - they have fallen off the cliff when it comes to considerations for the plethora of sellers who have disabilities and them being able to access, use and choose to suit their needs to offer a " service " that eBay want so badly to control for profit.

Always look on the bright side - with the broken returns of vintage glass you could start a whole new range of Mozaic vintage glass pieces - premium price - unique product line (until other glass sellers cotton on to it) you must remember to thank ebay for their innovative ideas and the unexpected boost in sales !

You know I’m on the same page as you regarding how eBay have ruined and continue to destroy what was a perfectly good formula for everyone.
But in fairness your points 3 (BREXIT) & 4 HMRC reporting are nothing to do with eBay.
Even I can’t blame them for those 😄👍

Yes, You're quite right.
I was merely mentioning all the events/changes which have happened over the last 3 years.
Whilst Brexit and reporting of private seller's income to HMRC are out of eBay's hands, these were the things which also happened during the last 3 years and have now impacted / hurt sales on eBay as a side effect...

The most annoying thing is simply the lack of a fair playing field.
Unfortunately greed has got the better of eBay and they’ll likely pay a price in lost buyers/sellers over time.
Lots of external influence that eBay can’t control but the original, simple format worked so well for everyone, be they private, business or eBay in the past and should have been left alone.

These include;-

3)
Brexit. This has now crippled lots of international sales with the continental countries as buyers now have to pay more for shipping/postage and also a customs/vat charge once the item arrives in their EU country.
...
I can blame eBay for many things, and do. But blaming them for Brexit, that really is wild!
ROFL! 🙂

Hi
I'm not blaming eBay for Brexit but annoyed they charge the international
fee on top of their normal charges plus the postage to send a fishing rod
to the USA is around £50 so it's another £5 fee to pay. I think the HMRC
checks will stop those sellers just trying to make a little money from the
things they have already paid tax on so more and more useful items will be
disposed of than used again.
At the end of the day it's down to very little disposable income being
available that's hitting sales.
Hopefully the new year will bring a bit more prosperity.
Good luck with your sales.
An additional fee for an international sale is fair enough. Remember that ebay has to pay currency conversion costs when handling the foreigner's money and turning it into Great British Pounds.
ps: I see someone else got in before me on the Brexit issue. Sorry, I responded before updating the pages.

Reporting to HMRC has had an effect - ebay slapped us with another fee. Okay the regulatory fee is small and no longer applies to private sellers, but ebay's reaction was to find another way to make us pay.

That's just typical of eBay !.... Give you something for free and then...
They always want to try and make their users pay over the odds for something in other ways ... 😞

We’re introducing this fee to address the rising costs associated with the increasing number and complexity of regulations impacting eBay’s marketplace - including consumer and environmental protection, as well as new taxation and customs measures.
I dont recall any customs issues? Complexity of Regulations on the market place? all gone swimmingly.....😂

Sounds like a " stealth" fee to me....

I would think of ebay every time I turned the remains of an absolutely stunningly beautiful piece of classic '30s Art Deco, perhaps designed by a master like August Walther, Renee Lalique or Alexander Williamson, into a bit of second rate modern art and cry 😭
