Hi
We have been selling on ebay for over 10 years. Sales have been down since start of 2024 but its completely dead. Like we look at our stats from July to September and sales figures are less that what we are paying ebay for Promoted listings etc.
Although we have moved our inventory to Amazon and tiktok but wondered what has actually happened to our Ebay. It used to be aweseome but we now cannot even afford to list. Listings are sat there doing nothing even with promoted listings.
November has been our difficult month so far as with Zero sales i mean come on there got to be something causing this loss. Is it new so called AI.
Please share your findings.🤔🤔

I did exactly that for many years as a private seller. I gave me regular albeit slowly declining sales. Not any more.
I wish you the best of luck.

It's become boring, from tomorrow i don't think i'll spend as much time logged in to ebay, and spend more time else where.

In my opinion, Ebay will be the first of the large online selling platform to go bust. They have made so many mistakes it is unbelieveable they are still trading. Nobody buys from there anymore. I had an annual turnover of £700k and now it is about £20k. Alternative my sales on Etsy and Wayfair are through the roof.

Probably their " shareholders " will go running...
or it will become like an online "Poundland"...everything 99p free post 😉

This is just my opinion, please don't get angry. I don't think ebay will go bust. Vinted gave ebay a left jab. Temu floored them with a right cross. I'm not a boxer BTW.

It has become exponentially dull. That said, there are other avenues to explore even when one is getting on a bit.

eBay really need to buck up and stop ruining their site with all these new and unnecessary changes which is now backfiring and DRIVING SELLERS AND BUYERS AWAY instead of attracting them.

I couldn't agree more. I really don't have a personal problem with ebay. I still make sales on here and considering the amount of listings I have, I'm pleased. That said, stop paying people to fix things that aren't broken.

I ended November 20% down on last year but having said that i was up on sales here until end of August based on last year. I think stopping the Nectar points was a bad bad move it seemed after that the sales dropped badly.
I am also finding a lot of stuff cheaper to buy on the big A now and i have ended up doing most of my xmas shopping on there and also topping up a lot of my stock on there too. Ebay really need to pull out some Ace's in the New Year as the customers are trickling away elsewhere.
I was also hoping the 20% off Black Friday promotion was really going to help but it has made no difference as they are only promoting the Non New items so all of us selling New items are only getting sales via this promotion if the customers can find us in the search.
Trying not to be annoyed, considering what to do next year but probably i will be looking for a day job in the new year and keep this going on a lower scale.

Do you think ebay lost it's way trying to compete with Amazon and Chinese manufacturers and is trying to get back to the car boot / auction site it used to be? The free to sell for "private" sellers was a hint to me.

Yes i think so and i feel it will focus on being more Green prioritising the Non New and Pre Loved sector. The last two Ebay coupon promotions one just before Black Friday and the one now were both aimed at Non New but there were 1000's of sellers in the promo most of which are selling new items. Im sure many are a bit unhappy about the Black Friday promo but many of them sell on A as well and probably did well on there.
Its sad, if the new items market disappears on here. I used to buy so much on Ebay but things are changing. I know a few sellers now who have closed their shops on Ebay and many more will follow unless Ebay does something amazing in the New Year.
I dont mind buying non new items for myself and i often do but i would not usually buy non new as gifts for people unless it was something i knew someone really wanted.

Ebay is sadly dying, sales have dropped 50% in a year and becoming pointless trading soon, buyers are abusing the returns policy and new ebayers are destroying ebay with abusing feedback policies to, we have been a member on here for 15 years now and these last few years ebay are killing businesses with their fees, promoted listings, 50% of our turnover is paid to ebay it has become not profitable anymore sadly.
Can't see us trading here this time next year if this carries on

I don't think the new market on here will disappear completely but I do agree. There is a shift towards the green / non -new / pre-loved market as you stated. Back to basics in a way. Personally, I semi get away with ebay so far. I do handmade. My heart goes out to the UK business resellers on here.

Sorry, I always think of something after it is too late to edit. There are people selling beautiful antiques and collectibles here. However, because of competition there are a lot less people on here to see them. They're on Temu buying an 84 piece tool set for £1 free shipping from China. I also think it's possible that collectors / dealers on here are waiting for a seller panic fire sale.

Do you think that the new checkout - pre-approved payment or whatever it is called is putting people off completing a purchase?

A bit " lightweight" if you ask me 😉

Yes. Most definitely.
That's a very good point you brought up...

I don't understand how half this *bleep* is allowed to be imported in to this country in the first place. Time and time again people buy from these platforms and are dissappointed by the quality. I've never purchased off these platforms and never will.
