Hi, I'm completely exhausted by this and really need some advice. I put a computer up for sale about 6 weeks ago and a buyer bought it. There was then a lot of back and forth because the buyer wanted to collect immediately, and I wasn't available in the collection location immediately (because we'd gone into lockdown). I offered them loads of options but they got quite rude, and eventually I cancelled the sale. I didn't want to be dealing with them. Then I listed it again and they just purchased it again immediately and said they would come in a couple of days when I could be home to give it to them. I figured ok, it's sold and I can do that, so proceeded with the sale. They came to collect the item, told me it wasn't for them but their friend (and refused to do a safe socially distanced sale, but grabbed it out of my arms instead). Just want to be really clear from here that this was a perfectly working computer when I sold it. I was using it the day before collection and it worked just great. That night I started getting phone calls saying their friend didn't know the password to the computer and had locked themselves out - it was a wiped computer, there was no password until they activated it. They had forgotten their own password it seems. They seemed to resolve this because the contact about this stopped. Then they kept contacting via ebay messages saying their friend couldn't get the keyboard to work. It is a bluetooth keyboard, so I explained how to connect via bluetooth, explained it needed batteries (there were some in there when I sold it though) and that presumably the keyboard had worked at some point because of the whole password thing. They seemed to resolve this because contact stopped. Then they kept saying the letter k on the keyboard was stuck. I told them to maybe clean it? They seemed to resolve this. I can't stress again enough how I'd never had any of these issues up to this point. Then at 11pm last night they start sending me messages via whatsapp and trying to phone me. They sent videos of the computer making weird clicking noises. In the video it is balanced on a chair really precariously which doesn't look very good for it. I told them I had no idea what that noise was and that I'm just a person not a computer store and that maybe they could contact apple and ask what's going on because they've had the computer for over a month now and if this is the first time that noise has happened it's probably not a long term issue. They've now requested a full refund. So they want me to take back this computer they've broken (truthfully I don't even trust them to bring it back). Am I covered in any way against this? Do I have to just give the money back and be returned something they have broken? Please help! So unsure where I stand. Feel very exposed by ebay in all this.
