out of stock product

Occasionally I run our of stock due to a supplier issue, has anyone found a way of showing this without the listing closing losing all the previous sales numbers, I hate to say it but amazon alows you to zero stock and it simply tells the potential buyer so

There is a way 

Go to settings - seller preferences and switch on listings stay active when out of stock.
