Re the reduction from Ocober 1st in listings for private sellers.
i am a private seller , selling off a lifetime collection of books on ebay as im downsizing on retirement.
i currently have well over 1000 items listed which dont attract listing fees at the moment because books sell slowly and the fixed price listings roll over from month to month. i long ago finished listing the books in my library , so my ongoing 'new listings' are around 10 items per month or less.
i have two queries;
on october first will my 1000+ listings roll over without incurring listing fees?
Also i am due to go on an extended holiday over the period of the changeover date October 1st and was going to schedule a full months 'time away'. I return in mid /late october. at the end of my time away will my 1000 plus listings be subject to listing fees?
any thoughts would be welcome

This is true as items that have beening listed end up on Google shopping also.

Does this mean that on 1st October all auto relist over your 300 will be subjected to the new fee?

"clogging up "
only shows that the right buyer hasnt seen it ,Ive witnessed countless sales of the same item in the same condition selling for a higher price than my listings
its visibility and ebay controlls that i believe

I think sometimes people forget that ebay was about putting things on that were different and it wasnt all businesses that sold items on ebay when it first started...I personally think its a shame that the whole concept of ebay has changed over the years and not for the better! Now you cant find half the stuff you could back in the day! Clogging things up...really!!!

Hi All, I have just been told by an Ebay rep. That if I subscribe to Ebay basic shop I can have 1000 free listings AT a COST OF £19.99 per month. Most of my items sell for less than £5 so I will not be taking that option. I will be taking AUTO RENEWAL of my listings on 1st October un till my 796 are down to 300. I will be looking for alternative selling platforms. Ebay's loss I am afraid I will get more satisfaction giving it all to a charity shop.
Well literally every other business seller (which you are) has had to pay for listings every month. Churlish of you to moan about it, IMO.
Also a basic shop gets you 250 BIN listings and 100 auctions. What you're talking about is the "featured shop" which costs around £100 a month including VAT

I have had some items on for years and they are still selling - slowly but then again as long as they sell eventually i do not care.

There was of course no ebay.uk in those days and no paypal either - it was I seem to remember a collectors site mostly, bit like an old country lane instead of the M6 it is now !

But at what cost any thing over the 300 is going to cost 35p every ten days if a ten-day listing . I hope when you do sell your items the month for more than £2.00 you may break even after fees but doubt it
Only if they are new listings. If they were listed as 'good till cancelled', then they remain free when 'relisted'.

I have between 400 and 500 postcads listed currently on eBay and they range from £1 to about £7 each. They are all on 'Good 'Til Cancelled'. I have just spoken on the phone to 2 different eBay agents and both have said the same thing - 'Good 'Til Cancelled' are treated as 'new listings' when they relist, so WILL count towards your 300 monthly limit from 1st October 2024.
I now have to immediately end around 150 eBay listings, to avoid paying 35p on each of these cards over my 300 monthly limit next month!!!
One of the agents did acknowledge that this is causing a lot of unrest amongst their callers and he assured he would be feeding all the comments up to management. I also asked him to get management to issue an email, clarigying that 'Good 'Til Cancelled' and other relistings WILL count towards their 300 monthly allowance.
I can see a huge number of 'end listings' taking place ove rthe next few days, or alternatively a lot of people getting charges from eBay for their Good 'Til Cancelled items when they relist next month. Either way, eBay satisfaction ratings are likely to suffer.

Well, if they are going to count auto relists as 'new' listings, they need to ensure that they are back to the top of the list when they relist, not drop like a stone as they do now.
Can't have it both ways!

It makes more sense this way, or otherwise it does not restrict the number of listings a private seller can have. Private sellers would end up adding 300 listings each month and would end up with thousands of free listings again unless eBay brought in charges for relists too. The whole idea is to prevent business sellers using private accounts to list large amounts of stock, so allowing relists to carry on as free listings would not restrict the number of sales on private accounts much.
This way makes much more sense, unless you are a collector, sadly.

eBay are going to get a lot of fees come October, from all the sellers who think their relists will be free!
eBay DO need to make sure the terms of this restriction are made clear so that sellers can choose to end listings or pay to relist them
Currently there is no clear guidance, so many sellers will be caught out by lots of 35p fees they werent expecting as the offer is NOT clear!

This came up in the community chat yesterday and dave@ebay responded with the same information as you received.
However it's not clear in the free listings information in help page :
The following will count against your monthly allocation of free listings:
Good 'Til Cancelled listings (at the time of first listing). If you're a private seller, renewed Good til Cancelled listings will not be deducted from your allocation of free listings in subsequent months.

It looks like the free listings information help page is based on the current rules, not the rules from 1st October.
As previously stated I did ask the agent to pass to eBay management to make the new rules clearer to Private sellers, but with only a few days until they come into force many are likely to get caught out.
eBay are really likely to get a lot of disgruntled Private sellers over the coming days/month.

I don't think the listing guidance/policy could be any clearer. This is not a case of poor communication by ebay, but a direct contradiction by ebay CS agents to the clear wording in the guidance.
You couldn't make it up.

Well i'm in the process of reducing my listings from approx 375 down to 299...from past experience I do not trust ebay to not charge me 35p for every listing that goes over the 300 mark.
They need to clarify "Clearly".

That is possibly the answer, the trouble is that when you click on the link in the box that specifically refers to the October changes, you get the bit that says good till cancelled don't count in the 300.

Whilst i think the email was clear that relists do not count towards the 300, but "sell similar" do count and the only thing that is changing is the amount from 1000 down to 300, may i make a suggestion? Wait until the new rules come into play and see what happens before making wholescale changes to you account. Surely not all your listings will relist within minutes of the new allowance starting, but i bet there will be someone on here telling us the result of a relist very quickly and then sellers can act accordingly. You can bulk end listings if you need to in seconds.
