NO LONGER SELLING DUE TO SIMPLE DELIVERY

AS OF 15TH APRIL MY DAYS AS A PRIVATE EBAY SELLER WILL STOP AFTER 19 YEARS.

I AM FED UP OF THE GREED OF EBAY AND I HOPE OTHER EBAY SELLERS DECIDE TO NO LONGER LET THE EBAY CONTROL FREAKS HAVE THIS MUCH CONTROL OVER PRIVATE SELLERS.

NO LONGER SELLING DUE TO SIMPLE DELIVERY

to gmij1961......
Your reply noted. A rather long, chatty reply!!Thank you for compliment on listings!! But, to be fair,  as I am so ancient & have nobody else to bother about, I find the selling occupies an otherwise empty day apart from housework & existing!! I COULD read all the books that I have meant to do but that would be even less active than what I manage normally, although I do have most sales collected by the RM postie!! brilliant of course especially in poor weather.
Unfortunately,  in addition I am a computer/tech dinosaur. It has taken me YEARS to get to my present ability on EBay,  I still have not mastered many points, so, of course, when they change this way I am flummoxed.
BUT, I had my 1st proper order yesterday     ( since the dreaded latest edicts) And of course it was extra complicated, 2 similar items both with added postage but of course they went  in one parcel!! I have solved it by finding to my utter amazement that ......I WAS ABLE TO CHOOSE MY OWN POSTAGE!!!!!  Mirabili dictu. so I chose 100gm 2nd class letter at 87P which was added on to the  main postage cost & I have reimbursed the remaining cost plus most of the BPF which I always aim to do. I end up with slightly more than I would have done under the old system of fees!! I hope it continues like that...If it does, & one can choose ones own method of sending as before one cd not change the "what the buyer has chosen"
So it might be that we have over reacted? I certainly abhor the extra control & STILL feel that private sellers are being singled out badly. The BPF is INIQUITOUS.  Cheers,  LL2.

NO LONGER SELLING DUE TO SIMPLE DELIVERY

Dantwocats...I have had my 1st order/s since this debacle began. as it was for 2 different items I screeched to a halt...BUT actually managed to make the 1st one a 2nd class letter ,  ditched the label & just did the £3,44 one, packed, posted & refunded the buyer the difference + most of the BPF tax,  & still ended up with more than we wd have done when they charged us commission!!  So I count that as a win, & hope customer is pleased!!!   hoping it stays like that.  LL2

NO LONGER SELLING DUE TO SIMPLE DELIVERY

Sorry, not been following the thread.. Is this list items that are ''exempt"

NO LONGER SELLING DUE TO SIMPLE DELIVERY

On of the key things with SD is seller  is no longer buying the postage.  So  it terms of basic buyer protection the buyer is no longer protected by distance selling laws which up to until now has been a pretty fundamental part. In my opinion Ebay are a middle agent who are selling on the item to eventual buyer but even if this not the case it still a huge change

So you could say that the likes of Ebay and VTD have to offer buyer protection . Whilst VTD description of  BPF is infinitely better than Ebay's neither are making that point clear to the buyer .   Even under this changed set-up the buyer is still protected as if the courier service offers compensation than that to a fair degree replaces distance selling as lost or damaged items can still be compensated  but it is no longer the sellers responsibility to sort the issue out and is now and issue between buyer and who sold them the postage and Ebay etc are selling the postage for their own benefit that is Ebay .

So what does BPF actually offer the buyer and the only tangible reason if there is an issue with the condition or the item is not as described .  Again VTD go to some length to manage this expectation were Ebay just spout marketing blurb . However for the seller this is something that would be covered by agreed T & C' s .  So real BPF should only really cover time and effort for the likes of Ebay to resolve.

Given Ebay BPF fees then I would say only the 4% part of BPF could be genuinely classed  as BPF  and the 75p flat fee is for all intents and purposes a selling fee and should be clearly advertised as such ! to all parties .

So If SD removes distance selling rules from the equation then BPF had to be in place 1st which what they have done. You can have SD with Ebay "offering" BPF  !

However Ebay need to understand that not having BPF was a USP  feature of Ebay that they should exploited and by going down the BPF they have actually allowed the likes of VTD to have a  more competitive edge  as there BPF is cheaper and  a lot more honest !!

RON,

The list shows the items EXEMPT from Simple Delivery.

Be aware,  it applies to the items in the brackets after the main category.  For example Dolls and Bears , then ( Clothing and Accessories)  it's the clothing and accessories which are exempt Not Dolls and bears,  and only if they fit in a letter size under the value of £10.

NO LONGER SELLING DUE TO SIMPLE DELIVERY

Is there even any tangible difference between a buyer's experience pre/post BPF? All buyers could get a refund just by snapping their fingers. I've had eBay step in and give a full refund when someone bought a book from me where the condition stated "light sun bleaching to edge of cover, see second and third photos" and they complained about sun bleaching on the edge of the cover. I've had eBay step in and give a full refund to an overseas buyer where the seller actually messaged me to say "I had to pay import tax to receive this, sorry I want a full refund" then raised a claim stating it never arrived (eBay support said "well it wasn't sent tracked so there's no proof it arrived" despite the message from the buyer being visible to them). Sellers have always had it much, much worse than buyers - where's our seller protection fee!?

Anyways back to SD, I am still able to list toys with advanced postage >100g and >£10. I'm not complaining, I'd just like some clarity that they're not going to torpedo me at some random time when I'm not able to react and pull my listings.

Don't worry they are sure to be working on it as part of a future mandatory improvement.

If all this stuff is so good why do they need to make any of it mandatory?

Because of course it wouldn't sell in isolation on it's own merits as nobody wants it.

So they have to bundle it in with all relevant purchases to drag the whole platform down.

Yes me too.

I'm quitting after 17 years as a Private Seller.  Ebay have forgotten what their role is and are now interfering in too many ways.

There is nothing "Simple" about it!!

See how the mighty get too greedy and controlling, fail and then fall!

That list appears to be misleading. It gives an example under films etc of a DVD. I immediately think of a DVD being a film plus case. Applying the above means its just the actual DVD without the case, which may fit as a letter (without much protection) as with case it's a large letter. Anyone who is a gardener knows a bulb isn't going to be letter - most won't fit large letter. Look closely and there's a lot more examples that realistically won't fit as letter.

As most of the items I sell are made of paper..I just put everything under
the 'PAPER and EPHEMERA' banner and that allows me to send with no postal
restrictions. At Present!!!!!

In terms of SD actually works in terms of refunds that won't clear for a while yet . In terms of lost and damaged items , I think there have been signs that Ebay are now handling it and could be using AI which could be open to  fraud etc , but that is Ebays problem 🙂

Not as described is always going to be contentious , and the most frustrating to deal with  and  when it has gone to a dispute Ebay just make it worse . I prefer to settle direct with the buyer and if it is my fault will pay return postage etc , but If it is a difference opinion and I accept a return it's down to the buyer to return , and If I feel they have been pedantic then they go on my blocked list .   In reality these have  less than 0.5% of what I have sold .

However if I am correct and Ebay are in fact the middle man under SD then it is down to Ebay to inspect the item !  Ebay holding on to a payment after the courier has collected is dodgy , especially if under the T & C's they have the right to charge back.

As BPF becomes more common I think its only a matter of time that someone takes a most closer looks  as  in most case the buyer is already has BPF for free when dealing with a business

I did say that it was letter under £10 and 100g at the bottom but people don't read things properly. People should be able to understand the brackets. However it's not that easy ie jewellery (bracelets and charms) small necklaces, rings and other things should come under it as well. I can see this going on for months before it's finally sorted
