Well finally after changing the format of their selling platform it seems every couple of weeks you have come up with the ultimate level of stupidity with this latest total ridiculous set of changes. Nobody is going to wait what could be weeks to be paid for a item they have sold who ever dreamt up this idea much be so far from reality as needing to push every part time seller off the site. I knew when they came up with the idea of free selling it wouldn’t be long before the idiots that run eBay came up with totally and ridiculous idea to claw back the money they have lost the whole senior management team at EBay must seat round a table all wearing clown costumes saying what is the most stupid idea we can come with to really get rid of half of our customers and the biggest clown wins with this idea and all the other yes people follow. Well I had started selling a few bits again but never again and will not be using EBay again to sell anything it has become a total joke of a company I hope your poor and flawed decisions finally catch up with this once great place to buy and sell has become a total joke.

Absolutely correct.

I've been a member of eBay since late 2004 and I have been selling on eBay since 2007 which I really enjoyed.
Sadly From 3 February 2025 I will be cancelling all my listings on eBay for the very last time.
eBay have really ruined everything with their HORRIBLE new manged delivery policy starting on 4 February 2025.
There is absolutely no way I am ever letting eBay manage the delivery of any of my items - NO WAY ! - NEVER !
I will however keep eBay monitored to see if they will come to their senses and ABOLISH THIS AWFUL NEW PHASE WITH "MANAGED DELIVERY" AND PAYMENT DELAYS THEY NOW SEEM TO BE GOING THROUGH...
If the site becomes sensible again I will happily come back and sell on eBay once again... but if they decide to just stick to their guns... with a couldn't care less attitude... then it's GOODBYE eBay....

100 % spot on...amazing how much stuff seems to be run by absolute clowns these days...no wonder our economies are in the gutter.

There really is no reason to sell here anymore
views zero
Vinted is better
you can’t sell everything there but there are ways around it unless you’re selling a car or other things def not allowed
eBay does not care about private sellers so they should be honest about it instead of being ridiculous
I too am stopping here sadly after 2 decades
used to enjoy it
now they make you jump through too many hoops to make a sale if you’re lucky that is while they just cream it off the big companies who save a fortune without concrete premises and other big business sellers
so sod them
good luck

Personally I don't know if I'm going to sell on eBay anymore, but I doubt it.
But I do know this fee is going to put me off buying from private sellers.

What’s the logic of putting the fee on private sellers and not business sellers hmmmmm
sorry had a blonde moment there
its ebay logic ergo no logic just another shot in their own foot
At least reputation wise and reputation damages business u know

Now it's managed delivery... I wonder how long it will be when eBay copy "Amazon Prime" and we start seeing delivery vans with "eBay Managed Delivery" written on the side !
That's it !!! - eBay take note:-
IF YOU ARE REALLY SERIOUS ABOUT MAKING MANAGED DELIVERY/SIMPLE DELIVERY WORK WELL FOR EVERYONE ON EBAY WITHOUT UPSETTING PEOPLE THEN WHY DON'T YOU HIRE OR BUY SOME MEDIUM AND LARGE VANS AND EMPLOY YOUR OWN TRUSTED SCREENED DRIVERS TO COLLECT ALL THE SOLD STUFF DIRECTLY FROM THE HOMES OR WORKPLACES OF SELLERS WHO SELL ON EBAY AND BOOK A PREPAID DELIVERY WITH EBAY MANAGED DELIVERY... EBAY THEN COLLECT THE ITEM FROM THE SELLER, GIVE THEM A RECEIPT FOR IT WITH A CODE FOR THEM TO ENTER INTO EBAY TO PROVE THEY HAVE NOW GIVEN THE ITEM TO ONE OF EBAY'S TRUSTED MANAGED DELIVERY TEAM, THEN EBAY CAN SIMPLY DELIVER IT PROMPTLY OVERNIGHT STRAIGHT TO THE BUYER AND THE BUYER CAN GIVE EBAY A SPECIAL CODE THEY ARE GIVEN DURING THEIR ORDER CONFIRMATION WHICH WILL CONFIRM AND PROVE DELIVERY HAS BEEN MADE SUCCESSFULLY.
If eBay would adopt an "Amazon Prime" style delivery - 100's like me wouldn't need to cease selling on eBay, as the problem would be 100% solved. If Amazon can do it right then why can't eBay do it right too ?

Ebay charge business sellers a fortune in selling fees. Plus buyers have legal rights when buying from businesses which eBay isn't legally allowed to charge buyers for - which is what they would be doing if they applied the buyers fee to purchases from business sellers.

Not sure about that. Vin ted charge the same buyers fee on private and business sellers. I think private sellers are just doing the testing.

The Buyer Protection fee is paid by the buyer to eBay on UK-based private seller listings. We recently changed our fee structure, so it's free for private sellers to sell, meaning there are no barriers for these sellers to list items. For our business sellers, this fee is included as part of the transaction fees the seller pays with each item that sells.

I take it you mean if they replaced our selling fees with a buyers fee?
02-02-2025 1:41 PM - edited 02-02-2025 1:48 PM
Yes, I would welcome the change to 4% + 75p even on the cheaper items we could absorb some of the fees but it is never going to happen.
Over the long term we would be a lot better off.
They can bring in simple delivery also as long as they can match if not beat our contracted price with RM which is less than the net price of £2.25 on eBay for a tracked large letter, again this isn't going to happen because there is too many business sellers to lose who have similar contracts with carriers.

Not only will sellers leave ebay, they may say sod 'em and not buy from either.
02-02-2025 3:41 PM
well its not as Illogical as stating a private account is just to sell your bits and bobs every now and again but THEN letting private accounts not only pay for a monthly subscription for a shop (why would a normal person need a shop if selling bits and bobs and its not a business) but also charging them less for the shop subscription than a actual business account
its so pathetic and tbh that is being against business accounts

you do realise for them to do this they need to built tons of depots around the UK for this for the vans to go to and stay etc that means they would need offices at each of these places and hire and pay staff for that as well as drivers and vans as well as everything else ...way too much money as it would mean they need to raise fees yet again

I never go to eBay with the intention of buying. I log on to list items from the cupboards full of clutter that make up my wardrobe and craft room and usually end up spending far more than I take in sales after getting drawn into similar listings. As usually happens I sold £150 of old clothes and craft supplies last month, and spent £375 on a coat that I wouldn’t have seen or looked for had I not been listing.
I’m stopping selling tomorrow, so there’ll be no more buying either, I just won’t have any reason to look at eBay at all after Tuesday (unless there’s a problem with the three sales I got this weekend - others are obviously thinking the same way)
If I’m buying books or stuff for the storecupboard, the house or the pets I use Amazon Prime, have done for 22 years - because I have no local shops and its incredibly, (my husband would say too) easy to use. eBay for me served a completely different purpose. It was more an extension of my hobbies than just shopping.

Well they could always LEAVE US TO DEAL WITH OUR OWN DELIVERIES.
For almost 30 years on eBay SELF EFFICACY has always worked well for ALL private sellers.

I used to make things and tried etsy. I left there years ago because of micromanagement.
I’ve always liked eBay for the fact that I can place an ad and manage my own sales and deliveries. I didn’t mind paying a fee for using their platform but I won’t be treated like an employee, and an exploited one at that.

Private seller here.
I am taking down my listings tomorrow before midnight.
Three weeks ago I wasn't even getting views and suddenly today one item I have listed has nearly 500. That astounded me.
I made 4 sales in 3 weeks which was for gold pendant chains I had surplus to requirements after selling pendants. I don't know if that made the difference or not.
What I did was make my titles as basic as possible and gave all the details in the listing.
I rely on RM doorstep collection but print my own labels and won't be told how to post my items.
Similarly I don't want to be dependent on someone deciding if I get paid or not and if they don't say they've received their item waiting 14 days for my money.
I can see this system becoming a scammers paradise.
Order a piece of jewellery or clothing for an event, wear it and then return it with INAD claim.
Today I've received a stunning jacket bought from a business seller, cheaper than elsewhere and a sundry item that was cheaper than B&Q.
I will still peruse eBay for buying but my selling days after nearly 17 years are over unless things change back to a better system. My feeling is that business sellers will stop offering free postage.
My selling was purely items I clearing out, good makes and quality. There is a second hand dress shop I can take clothes to now, which might not generate as much but I won't have all the hassle with eBay. Shame because I enjoyed selling and making sure my buyers, some of whom were repeat buyers, were happy with honest descriptions and photos in my listings.
I sold and treated my buyers as I would want to be treated with 100% feedback which is exemplary over nearly two decades. EBay's loss.
