Ebay picture policy is as follows from https://www.ebay.co.uk/help/policies/listing-policies/picture-policy?id=4370
The following are not allowed:
Photos that don't accurately represent the item
Placeholder images used to convey messages
Stock photos for used, damaged, or defective items
Photos with added borders
Photos with added text, artwork or marketing material
Watermarks of any type, including those used for ownership attributions
After a spate of buyers apparently not reading the description (the mobile app seems to force people to go hunting for it), I decided to put an auto-generated image showing measurements of the item. Now I am looking much closer into this, it seems this goes against ebay policy?
I'm guessing the only workaround is to show the item itself being measured in the images?

To be honest while it’s against policy, eBay don’t seem to police it at all.
from the use case you’ve suggested I’d say you’d likely be ok.

My images have added text, and I've never had a problem.
Loads of images have added measurements - like this one https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/145315203523?_skw=empty+spools&itmmeta=01JTBN79700T1632AWG04VKST7&hash=it...
I find it really useful to see measurements on images and, to me, it shows the seller in a positive light - a seller that's anxious to make sure the item is what I need. Also, big plus, image measurements save me scrolling past a million sponsored listings to get to the description.
