If a seller has demonstrated that they are trust worthy without any issues and they have a history of being a trustworthy, honest seller then after x amount of time and/or sales and/or feedback the fee's should decrease and/or eventually dissappear.
If the fee's were purely about buyer protection!
If a sellerer has demonstrated that they are trust worthy without any issues and they have a history of being a trustworthy, honest seller then after x amount of time and/or sales and/or feedback the holding onto sellers funds should become quicker to release and holds eventually end up non-existant.
If the fee's were purely about buyer protection!
THESE FEES ARE PURELY STEALTH FEES ON SELLERS GUSSIED UP AS BUYER PROTECTION!

Hello again, OK I get it now
No, the fee will not be removed or tapered off, it insures the buyers item in transit
If the item is lost or damaged in the post, eBay refunds the buyer, not the seller
So no, buyers will need to keep on paying the insurance fee so that sellers do not have to refund buyers when items get lost or damaged.
Sellers have no (very little) control over what happens to the item after posting, so seller performance has no bearing on whether buyers items need to be insured or not.

It's called "Buyer Protection" but it actually protects the seller from having to refund
There are no additional benefits for buyers that they don't have now, except they now have a new 24/7 helpline
But we know how useful eBay helplines are, don't we...

Oooooohh Yeah, My long memory is coming back when ebay remove sellers ability to leave feedback to buyers and promised a "feedback hub", it was supposed to be a call centre type thing that you could get in touch into. Unless my memory is playing tricks on me.
