When simple delivery is made mandatory for private sellers will the process be as follows:
* Purchasing buyer chooses the postage option they want i.e. Royal Mail or EVRI
* Buyer completes checkout, buying the postage from ebay
* Ebay sends the postage label to the private seller
What if a private seller does not have a printer to print the label that ebay sends them?

Yes, in electronics
You will see items with weird prices from now on in the electronics category

It won't but they were already on their last legs anyway. I always use(d) my local post offices to send orders. Got to know one set very well. In a WHSmith branch. The manager told me the only branches that make profit are the travel exchange ones which is probably why WHSmith want to sell all their high street stores. Royal Mail have been trying to cut them out of the loop for ages. & the post office themselves announced there will be closures of their own branches.
What eBay are doing is akin to providing nails for the coffin, nothing more. They are just being helpful.

Is there an option to opt out ?
Would you share a screenshot please ?

No you cannot opt out as a private seller, the only way to opt out is to upgrade to a business account
It will apply to all categories soon
Your payments will be held until you prove delivery or for 14 days for untracked items as well

... we have no space left in the back ...
My Tesco Express parcel shop was opposite university student accommodation. Another reason they ditched EVRi was because the cage was full by lunchtime Sunday, and they could take no more returns.
Cue for more staff abuse.

I thought SD only becomes mandatory in march ??
10-02-2025 10:07 AM
Not necessarily. The CEO said Q1, not a date. It could be today or any day before the end of Q1.

"By end of Q1"
Not at the end of Q1

I thought the CEO said it will have an opt out option for a month and then becomes mandatory later in the first quarter.
So SD becoming mandatory from the getgo ?

"So SD becoming mandatory from the getgo ?"
In a future tense sense, yes. That's what he said means. But he didn't give an exact date, so it could be anytime within that timeframe.

Thanks.
And no set dates when SD gets implemented on the whole platform ??

That was hurt badly with the 4 day to pay punishment.
ebay like their monies , and to hell with all the extra packaging, cars to deliver ( quite topical current environmental issues) , and folks time of course.
Time spent on the simple delivery farce, is less time to list, well on ebay at least.

As 10th feb is here, has SD started in the selected category ?
The 10th of Feb has heralded in increased charges for Special Delivery, see below. Until a date is announced for mandatory Special Delivery, you can still opt out now if you wish. Click on Custom Postage option, this is next to the simple delivery option on the listing on the right hand side, and it should allow you to then select your postage options.
Beginning from 10 February 2025, pricing for the Simple Delivery programme will be updated. These changes will apply to all new and historic listings.
Please see below for further details of the new pricing structure:

"Another reason they ditched EVRi was because the cage was full by lunchtime Sunday"
Wow! Were the students using the vans as cheap public transport? I love to see such entrepreneurial spirit!

Thanks @tressygirl
What are the difference between lower and higher value items as they haven't made it clear on top of that chart ??
Is it different delivery service ?

Good question and as I don't use Special Delivery ( yet!!), not sure, but imagine the higher value is extra cost for insurance?
Someone please correct me if this is wrong. 🙄

Do you mean apart from value? One column is less than 100, the other more than.
They have inferred that the system will automatically choose best options for set addresses but as yet I haven't seen anything definitive in black and white.

I don't have a smart phone either but do have an ipad...I ain't carrying that down to the post office though.
ebay need to sort this mess out pronto.

Don't go giving the "geniuses" at ebay ideas.
