Simple Delivery - Royal Mail

Does anyone know if the incoming Simple Delivery will include Royal Mail as an option? I ask because eBay seems to be going down the Vinted route and Vinted doesn't allow RM. As a seller of antique and vintage glass and ceramics my experience of Evri etc was not good. I find RM much more likely to deliver things undamaged and when the worst happens claiming is easy. Also as a disabled person I use RM collect from home. Going round various parcel drop off services with 5-10 parcels a day (some 2-5kg) is simply not possible.

It would seem that currently all deliveries will be made by EVRi, as far as I can see

Marvellous! Let's hope they make it easy to opt out (though somehow I doubt it). Evri even managed to break a riding hard hat I sold by drop kicking it up the buyer's garden path. Fortunately it was caught on camera!

The only carrier option at present is Evri.

It is possible that other delivery services will be added. However, Royal Mail is unlikely at present as Simple Delivery uses Packlink and, although Packlink does provide Royal Mail services outside of eBay, Royal Mail currently has a separate agreement with eBay.

Opt out appears to be on a listing by listing basis at present:

Can I opt out of Simple Delivery?

Yes, you can opt out of Simple Delivery when you’re creating the listing.

Packlink and Evri definitely don't have the best of reputations but it should be noted that one important advantage of Simple Delivery is that sellers are fully covered in the event of loss or damage during transit:

How is my item covered?

Items are protected against loss or damage from the moment they are scanned into the carrier's delivery network until they are marked as delivered by the carrier. In the event that a buyer raises a claim for an issue that occurs during transit, you'll not be held responsible.

Does Simple Delivery have a cover limit for items during transit?

No, there is no cover limit within Simple Delivery for eligible items; they are fully protected for the amount they sold for on eBay. To ensure this complete coverage:

  • Use the prepaid label provided by eBay.
  • Comply with the Packlink terms and conditions of carriage.
  • Package the item according to proper guidelines to minimise risk of damage. See 'How can I ensure my item is properly packaged?'

What happens when ebay get the postage wrong and the seller gets fined by packlink for an overweight parcel?

Re: Simple Delivery - Royal Mail

I have seen somewhere that when it becomes compulsory for private sellers it will only start with RM & Evri. However, I get the impression that ebay will decide what services are offered and the buyer will get the choice out of those options. So sellers have very little/no say in how they send.

Re: Simple Delivery - Royal Mail

What does worry me is Evri full stop .if the buyers choose there own labels will they buy the cheapest .will I still have a next day delivery for fragile items .and if the cheapest longer delivery time is chosen .I have tried pack link on insurance for parcels they are a rip off. Some of my boxes are longer than Evri will deliver . Then what .why oh why have they chosen Evri .the biggest failing courier of all time and loosing parcels. I want a courier who I can trust with my dolls and Evri is the last one anyone should trust

I can't see an opt out for this when I create a new listing. Is it now mandatory?

Re: Simple Delivery - Royal Mail

No.  I thought it was at first when I made a new listing and didn't see the option, but then I realised you can choose 'Custom postage' from within the package size/weight drop-down menu.  Then all the old options come back.
