Sales Completly Died **September 2024**

We have over 100 listings however sales are dead for over three months now.

Wondering if this is about time to take our business away to other platforms as we really cannot afford high Promoted Listings fees but still no sales.

NO SALES NO BUSINESS

I noticed that the fees on postage & packing increased ever since September 2013 when eBay started charging sellers a 10 percent fee on postage and packing costs...

but then again we also had sellers selling items for 0.99p via buy it now which cost £7 to post and charging £20 for postage to outsmart eBay's fee system and make 99% profit... so they (eBay) noticed this ! and clamped down on it by adding fees to postage & packing costs... which now sadly results in some sellers adding this onto the postage, hence you are seeing inflated postage prices on eBay...

That's the point though, it's not all sellers at all.  And I'm willing to bet, not that you answered it, that it was a private seller.

I look at my competion all the time on the website and it's very rare that I see people overcharging for postage.  It might be a little expensive on occasion, but not that expensive.

Aside from which, you really think that it's a good thing, for Ebay to control what sellers charge on postage?

It's all very well on Vinted, as they are have a fairly finite range of goods and it's all private sellers (apparently).

So if Ebay where to turn around, against everything it has done to date and force everyone to charge the same postage, you think that would work?

This is not the only marketplace where this kind of thing happens and it is a free market, not a fixed.

There are so many times when things are forced like that, that items simply don't fit the postage that the company has allocated.  Why should the seller account for this?

It's like sending something to NI, it's fine if it fits in RM dimensions etc, but it cost a hell of a lot more if you have to use another courier.

Hi Hippychick 🙂

I honestly don't blame you !

It's a great shame as at one time eBay used to be really good and a quick way of selling stuff for some quick money !

It was a business seller.  My best buys are usually from private sellers. Postage costs with private sellers are usually the most reasonable, but private sellers are now mostly using others sites like Vinted and other sites. Vinted though is getting doubled up with eBay business sellers that have the same items listed there as here. The Oxfan charity has joined up with Vinted and going to open a shop there soon. This is good news as I love charity shops, so hope some charity shops that are on eBay will soon join Vinted too. Vinted is a fast growing business and they hope soon to float on the stock market.  As long as costs don't go crazy as here then Vinted is my number one to go to before anything else.

What eBay done back in 2013 I don't believe that was the right solution as there are always other ways to solve that issue. Vinted has managed to do it. The buyers knows what to expect the postage cost to be.  It's also means buyers can purchase more individual items without bracking the bank on postage costs.

The folks who own, manage and run eBay really need to get their finger out and sort this no sales problem out.

This just won't do.

Lots of people are complaining of a massive loss in their eBay sales since May 2024 onwards... Here now on 11th September 2024 some 4 months onwards the no sales problem for many has now gotten worse...

This really should be addressed ASAP so that REGULAR sales for many are restored back to how they once were not so long ago before all these new changes took place on an otherwise previously great and effective online selling platform...

I've had no sales since 29th August. Ebay say do promotions, I do, ebay say do social media, I do, ebay say offer free returns, I say no unless the item is defective etc. Ebay say offer free postage, I do on some items, but to me it makes no difference as a buyer too.

Ebay say fill in all item specifics, I fill in all relevant.

It's ebay, not me. Been on here since 2001, never been this bad EVER!

Whilst there may be some issues with Ebay, I do believe that the market as a whole is quite depressed at the moment, and has been for quite some time now.

Sales on Depop are not particularly great at the moment either.

But look at the news, the constant moaning about having to make cutbacks and such like, is hardly going to get people spending on stuff that is not essential.

Hopefully once this budget is over and we are on a countdown to Christmas, things will start to pick up again.

Yes the world is a mess right now isn't it. I do have a part time day job which I had to do as my sales got that bad.

I work in a cafe and it's packed most days, people seem to buy treats like a coffee and a cake and always seem to have money for those.

I also think Temu has done a lot of damage, my workmates all seem to buy off there as they get tempted by their so called free gifts. I've never bought off there, to me it's just the same as being on here. A few bargains, then the rest not so great

I think the budget will make things worse, we haven't seen nothing yet.

Only a private seller  of collectables which tend to be erratic at the best of times.

BUT.

Over the years I've come to recognise an annual cycle that recurs most years.

After Christmas and into New Year a bounce as people spend money gifts and money put aside for the holidays that they didn't spend.

End of Jan. into Feb.  usually dead as people pay off their credit cards, winter fuel bills bite.

March to the beginning of the Summer holidays  --  'normal'

School holiday period, very few.

Schools re-open sales back to 'normal' but slowing down as Autumn leads into the run-up to Christmas and almost no sales.

So no, sales this year are worse than other years.  My sales almost stopped in April, May and June, when they should be at their best and most regular.   Absolutely nothing during the holiday period, when they would normally be quiet, but not non-existent.

September normally sees sales increasing, becoming regular again, but this year not one sale so far.  Even on ebid I haven't had a period of four and a half months with only one sale since before Covid and the lock-downs.

I'm not hopeful that there will be any improvement this year, given that there's only about six weeks left before the run-up to Christmas gets under way and we'll be having another Austerity, tax raising budget again in October.

This is what I like to see !, I know it might be fluke but it sure restores my faith in eBay ! 🙂

FireShot Capture 1427 - All selling - eBay Seller Hub - www.ebay.co.uk.png

...and 24 hours later eBay MP sent the money over to my bank - Fair enough although it would be great if they sent the payouts the same day of the sale, like within the hour... instead of making you wait 1 day 😞

I sold something for £155 last night.  Buyer paid within the hour  (10p.m. our time).  Woke up this morning to a notification from Ebay saying money has  been sent to our Bank.  No doubt it will hit the bank account shortly.     I do not have an issue with this.

Most retailers do not get instant payments...more like within 24 hours.

My son goes to Costa most days either for breakfast or lunch.    He pays by card and on his account it then says pending.......it takes 24 hours for the payment to be cleared to Costa.   Same for most other retailers.  My point is its the norm for sellers/retailers to have to wait 24 hours for actual payment.

Yes, That's what happens, Anything that sells before midnight the payment gets forwarded to your bank at around 3 am - 6 am and is then available at 8 am - 10 am.

It is only when you sell an item at 9 am, you then have to wait 1 day before you can have access to that sale money at your bank account...

It would be so nice to just have the money within 1 - 2 hours instead of having to wait 24 long hours for it to be availble in your bank...

Before in PayPal the money was always available INSTANTLY moments after your item had sold and the buyer had paid... now I find it hard when leaving feedback for a buyer to write "INSTANT PAYER" because my payment was NOT INSTANT ! ...although the buyer did pay instantly... so not their fault that eBay now DELAYS their payment to me...

So, I haven't seen Promo 80% discount selling fees for a while?

Now only the first 300 private listings are free?

Sales are quiet from what I observe here etc...

What does it all add up to??

Sadly, I I know it's unhelpful, but I anything I need day to day such as Phone case/screen protector, kitchenware, toys/gifts... I'll buy guess where??

Next day delivery is worth the extra cost to me.

Thank you g

My BIGGEST Objection on Ebay is "Questionable"  shipping/postage costs...

Needs to be addressed IMHO,

How can a seller charge £3.50 for p&p on a £4 Dvd,  'Large Letter'  ??

Maybe for Business sellers, the BIN/Retail Price needs adjusting to include shipping fees, so it appears FREE at least??

That's the reason why I've now stopped selling - No promo 80% off selling fees offer now for 3 weeks 😞

No point in selling on eBay now when I have to give them half of what little money I get for my items 🙄

Well said!!

For me at least, what never helped was 80%  Promo listings over the weekend only..!??

- We don't all have Free time at weekends.

- why not allow the Discounted Listing days from WHEN ACTIVATED!!?

e.g. I have days off Tues/Wed/Thurs so can't always take advantage

- Yes, I could Draft them in advance.. It'd just be easier to do it all in 1 go.

Thank you g
