If we (and I dont) believe eBay in that they want to change it but its hard to really know who is or is not a business a really simple way would be to say you get 30 free listings a year or 29 if the reporting figure is 30 as they already have that to flag then anything after that you are charged the same amount as business sellers. Dont have BPF as lets be honest its just a wrongly named seller fee and yes SD is still an issue but its another ball game.
Yes it'll catch people out selling more than 30 but if you are selling then surely paying to upkeep the site is fair. You'd still get a number of actually free listings which would be more than enough for the majority of private sellers and if you wished to sell more you are still free to do so just got to pay. They could drop the standard fee down to 8/9% across the board so it doesnt matter what category you sell in or if you are a business or not theres no economical advantage of defrauding customers, they still get away with not accept returns but a lot more would move over as you do get a few advantages when you're a business account, also stop private sellers having shops, by its name alone its a business. They already have AI looking to check for IP addresses so if somebody opens up 3 or 4 different accounts then close them down or link them together so they can only sell 30.
Currently though its a mess, genuine private sellers are annoyed because its not free to sell, business sellers are not having a fair platform and customers are being defrauded, the only ones winning are the criminals. All this leads to buyers moving to other sites, I haven't bought anything on here for about 5 months now as the majority of stuff I want is either cheaper elsewhere or sold by people defrauding me.
