Hi
We have been selling on ebay for over 10 years. Sales have been down since start of 2024 but its completely dead. Like we look at our stats from July to September and sales figures are less that what we are paying ebay for Promoted listings etc.
Although we have moved our inventory to Amazon and tiktok but wondered what has actually happened to our Ebay. It used to be aweseome but we now cannot even afford to list. Listings are sat there doing nothing even with promoted listings.
November has been our difficult month so far as with Zero sales i mean come on there got to be something causing this loss. Is it new so called AI.
Please share your findings.🤔🤔

I think it will be more a subscription service (they already have it in Germany and Australia) you get free next day delivery (not sure if the seller pays this or eBay) and free returns (again not sure on who pays) and you get access to discount codes throughout the year. I can see this being the way they go but if they try and get business sellers to pay for the return/faster shipping then a lot more will just go to private accounts. We know eBay are doing the bare minimum and really feedback means nothing so currently theres no disadvantage to being a private account once you get approved for payouts.

If ebay are changing how they sell they need to tell us and take us with them or have the courtesy to tell us that we are not in their plan so we can plan ahead .
If ebay reps do read these boards please note MVL listings are pre selecting a random image not the gallery image hence not showing our whole shop window . Search is so bad that yesterday charged by Mrs CB to get an advent calendar for daughter this was a very specific search the first listing showed no stock ( how was this listing in search ) available second listing says seller on holiday (ok so can wait a little longer) however it would not let me add to basket . So the top 2 listing of this product we could not complete a purchase . All the other listing for this product were US based and very expensive .

Ebay CEO and directors are reading these forums? Are you sure? 🙂

I hope they don’t force fast shipping and seller has to pay the returns postage. I’m only a small business and struggling to take a small wage as it is. I’d be selling at a loss if that was to happen. I also try to always dispatch items within 24/48 hours but I don’t like promising buyers a date that their parcel will arrive by because once it’s in the hands of the courier it’s down to them to deliver on time and you know how reliable they can be! Also I use a drop box as it works best for me as a seller but sometimes they may not collect until the next day after I’ve paid for the postage labels on EBay so it would show I’ve dispatched late but In fact I’ve dispatched within 24 hours but the courier takes a further 24 hours to collect from the drop box. I’m unable to always get to a post office to post so that is my only dispatch option. EBay always has the buyers best interest and not the seller. I have a disabled son who I have to work around and cannot just run to the post office every day plus at the rate I’m currently selling one item and making £2 profit, it’s hardly even worth visiting to the post office everyday! 🙄

I can't see how they can charge buyers and then expect sellers to pick it up but it wouldn't really shock me. If they did bring it in they'd surely need sellers to opt in and then theyd give us a nice fancy badge and promote how great these sellers are and try and get every other seller to do it. I'd hope it would only be a business account thing but as eBay dont see the difference I wont hold my breathe on that one.

Yes the whole site is "DEAD" now 69% down what have they done? They are letting clowns program the site and absolutely everything is completely broken with 2 sales in 5 days!. I believe it is the start of a full melt down!

Yes, they should not mess with things they clearly do not understand!

Hi,
Yes you are certainly not on your own, my sales are over 3/4 down with about 5 sales in November something is seriously a miss with the site but as usual eBay fall on deaf ears.

That was my worst sales weekend ever on eBay. Saturday was a big fat doughnut day. 🍩.
I’m hoping it’s the lull before some sort of storm.

We can’t seriously all be experiencing the same issues and EBay still expects to take their extortionate subscription fees. There should be a reduction in those who’s having issues. I’ve been a loyal seller for the past 5 years, using solely EBay for my sales. I can’t sustain a loss forever as I’m going to go bust. I really hope EBay reads these messages and realise they are killing small businesses and act fast!

Imagine you paid to have a physical shop in a shopping centre. When you started your lease, there was a steady stream of footfall and customers knew where your shop was located. You paid the same rent on the unit each month.
The landlord suddenly decides to introduce a "dynamic" selling experience. Now when customers go in to the shopping centre, the physical shops are on multiple carousels, and the landlord charges you a premium for often and for how long your turn to be visible to customers lasts; the location of your shop is always changing. On top of that the landlord insists you display all of your items on carousels inside your shop and charges a further premium on items to be visible once you get customers in your shop. The items that make the landlord the biggest premium are the only ones visible to customers. Oh, and you must also fill in 2 pages of detailed item specifics to display under each item-the landlord decides which of these are required, despite not being a specialist in this area.
To add insult to injury, next door, the landlord allows some new shops to open rent free with no premiums on their items.
Ask yourself, would you put up with this?
Look again.
Business sellers really need to look at what service they are receiving from ebay and whether, if ebay were rated by its main income stream, it would come anywhere close to the Top rated standards business sellers have to obtain to be within any chance of getting a sale.
I'm angry for you all.

I totally agree with what you’re saying. I’m not technically savvy to do anything different and I heard Amazon take as much selling fees as EBay does. Plus I only have surplus stock that I sell which is in oddments and I don’t know how that would work selling just odd items on Amazon. I tried Vinted but was removed because I’m classed as a business seller which I never hid from them. (Apparently it’s not a service they cater for in the U.K.) I’ve decided to try something completely different to selling physical goods and work on something else whilst I can see EBay is draining me but failing that, then it’s game over for me. 😞

I really feel for you, and all the other sellers going through the same thing. I have been watching this spiral for months. I think the trouble is many of us hold on to what ebay used to be-that is why I am still a member, watching for someone to realise what they have done and repair it. Dare to dream. I genuinely wish you all the best and hope things improve soon

We are down 70% compared to same time last year. Says it all. Thank god we also sell on other platforms (which are very busy btw). Something serious has happened to the eBay platform but haven’t got a clue what it is. Only thing I can think is people aren’t shopping here anymore

"Search is so bad...."
Isn't it just. I just searched "art deco glass" and ignored all ebays prompts.
200,000+ results.
1. A.D vanity set from the Netherlands £305 + £43 P&P.
2. & 3. A.D art print of a horse with glasses (!?) from Sri Lanka £24 + £14 P&P.
4. Micro landscape plant lamp, no mention of A.D . Free post from China.
5. Another horse print from Sri Lanka.
6. Solar garden with LED lights, no mention of A.D. £22 postage from the USA.
7. Millefiori Murano Style (modern) paperweight from Australia. £39.95 postage.
8. AT LAST! A.D green glass bowl. P&P £3.75 from the UK.
There are, depending which ebay search result figure you want to believe, somewhere between 10,000 + -- 41,000+ art deco glass items on ebay. uk. , how many are in the UK with UK sellers is difficult to determine but why are none of them at the top of the search results? How do items with no mention of Art Deco or even Glass in the title get to be in the top spots for "Art Deco Glass"??
When is a Search not a Search, when it ignores what's typed in the search box. Then it's become just advertising for random selected items.

Sellers are covering themselves. They may still be sending same day but Ebay's estimated delivery time and Royal mail's erratic service is causing mayhem.
