eBay's new Messages system makes me feel irritated.
I think I'd already taken the 'switch back to classic' option a few months ago, but here is the ugly new Message system staring me in the face again.
It's like one of the old decrepit original email systems that tried to gain traction with Gmail, but went bust.
I dislike the new system/interface with a passion, so is there still a way to switch back to classic?
...and if not, can eBay reintroduce it, cos this new system's REALLY horrible.

When you get over 200 questions daily the new message view/layout, whatever you want to call is it unusable.
Flagged messages. Where are they??? Totally gone as far as i can see. I've customers waiting for replies and I have no idea how to find their message.

From all the comments on here and other threads, it appears that there's no way to switch back now.
I still can't use it as I can't read the list. Maybe I'm getting too old to be on eBay?

ebay will have data that shows that many, many users are happily using it. What you are seeing here is an echo chamber. Because why realisitically would someone come onto the forums to start a thread to proclaim they like the new messaging system?
Like anything new - there are clearly issues, and I agree with some of the comments - I just don't get the issue with the general layout they have adopted. It is the same as Amazon.
Certainly it would help if you could flag images for response, if order details were linked to the messages etc. I'm sure these updates will come in time.

It's great you're happy but this thread isn't for you. It's about the rest of us who are finding it unworkable. I have never used Amazon in any shape or form, so comparing a system is wasted on me.
It's good that you think some people are happy with it. That doesn't suddenly make me like it or enable me to use it.
I get that you're trying to take a more positive slant, but it doesn't help. I still can't read it as it's all bunched in a tiny corner and the page is obliterated by an automatically opened message that I did not want to open.
Maybe you have great eyesight? Maybe I'm too old?

"It is the same as Amazon." - so that makes it OK then? I don't sell on Amazon ... well yet.
Cannot link the sales to the messages easily.
No member name visible for courtesy messages
No word break at end of the line, just a continuation of the word on the next line!
It's a 'pigs dinner' which looks as though it has been created by a 4-year old. A time consuming mess which follows the ongoing pattern of recent changes on this platform.

Or... eBay will have data that shows that people don't often make an effort to give feedback unless they are really unhappy with something?
So there could actually be a silenty majority who arent happy but are so fed up / disenfranchised etc and feel that their concerns are note listened to that they have have given up giving feedback.
Also, just because Amazon use a *bleep* layout doesnt mean that people should be happy with that either???
08-11-2024 1:04 PM
But I don't think its *bleep*. Clearly you do, thats also fair. But I'm not going to continue when we clearly aren't going to agree on the matter.
08-11-2024 1:27 PM
Yes, it's fair to say that it's rare for anyone to start a thread to say they like whatever changes are in the offing, so we have no idea how many users are represented by those of us that feel upset enough to complain.
It would be genuinely very interesting to know how many are 'happily' using the new messaging system - unfortunately, we now have no choice - it is like it or lump it. 'Getting used to it' on eBay usually means getting used to something that is more complicated/less user-friendly, and unappealing to look at. 'Putting up with it', describes it more accurately, in my opinion... 😄
If eBay wanted to know if users were happy with the new system, they could have left the 'switch back' option in place. That would tell them how many of us were still switching back in three months+ time. I would still like the option to switch back to pages that disappeared years ago!

I'm partially-sighted. I cannot read minute text. When I make on-screen text larger (by pressing 'Command' and '+' together on my Mac laptop), all the left-hand side of the Messages disappears (see attached image).
Evidently eBay has done NO testing before they decided to instill this upon us !
08-11-2024 1:50 PM
Exactly!
That's why I always get the feeling these big business managers don't actually care who their customers /users are or what they struggle with. One size has to fit all?
08-11-2024 5:39 PM
Not if you suffer from dyslexia! Any word that will not fit in its entirety at the ends of a line gets arbitratily bisected. Now, trying to proof-read messages before I sent them is a total nightmare. I'll never get used to it.

I agree with all the negative points raised so far. It is a disaster.
If you have a previous message and you want to use it as a template then all the formatting is lost as it just becomes one long paragraph.
The initial starting box for the new message is squashed into the bottom corner of your computer screen.
You can now only attach five photos instead of ten AND I am finding that the resolution of the photos is so poor the detail is lost.
And I am sure other issues will come to light. The old system worked perfectly fine.
This enforced change is a huge backward step!
I have left them a one star review every time I have used it over the past three days and will continue to do so every time I use it!

Same here!

''Ebay will be thrilled that one member can use it? ''
Thanks hollyh321 as this cheered me up back from the edge after trying to use ebays new messages version

Everything else on ebay's web site is perfect, so it's not surprising they decided to try to improve the messaging system.
/s
Said nobody, ever.
Actually I didn't much like the old messaging system. If I sent a message to a user, got no reply (perhaps because one wasn't warranted) and then sent another later, the old system didn't give me any way to show the whole conversation. I've yet to check if this aspect is improved.
I'm appalled to see above that accessibility issues have been ignored in the redesign. I have a blind friend, who, if he used ebay, would be hopping mad about that.
Ebay only ask for feedback as a way of trying to defuse our anger. They never listen, it seems. Certainly I can't recall any time when something was rolled back, following an avalanche of hate and derision.
10-11-2024 11:31 PM
Never mind sack them - how about the guillotine? Or the electric chair?
14-11-2024 6:28 PM
Yet again the children have been playing with the message system. This layout now is stupid and fills the screen with rubbish, rather than being simple and clean.
I did suggest getting them all a broom to be usefull, but sadly they must have broken the handle. Perhaps a dummy now, as that's their childish behaviour!!
Wake up Ebay clowns and put the message page back to normal!

this nonsense is yet another reason why ebay is dying.
i simplty cannot be bothered anymore with their constant tinkering. ive been away from the site for months and here we are again...its all changed. I HATE THIS WEBSITE

Why bother to comment if you don't agree? This is not what the forum is about. How are we going to get Ebay to understand if there are idiots sitting on the fence?
