eBay Refund Policies

I have recently had 2 refund issues with buyers The first involved a buyer saying that the item did not fit even though I had supplied he exact dimensions in the listing. I declined the return request which the buyer then complained to eBay  and was subsequently refunded in full by eBay with no monetary loss to myself. The 2nd issue involved the buyer saying that 'didn't like' the item which I foolishly agreed to refund with him paying the return postage. When the item was received, it was evident that he had not even opened the parcel. When I opened the refund request, I had no option but to refund the buyer in full without any refund from myself for postage. My argument is why should the buyer in both cases be paid in full with no option whatsoever to deduct the postage from my side when I have had to buy a label, package the item, and deliver it to the post office.  The system needs to be modified by eBay to allow the seller to be able to deduct the postage costs. In future, I will refuse all refunds if there is not wrong with the listing and the return is raised on the whim of the buyer

'I will refuse all refunds if there is not wrong with the listing and the return is raised on the whim of the buyer'

Well, technically a private seller can refuse 'change of mind' returns, but cannot refuse 'item not as described' returns (things being broken/not working/damaged etc)

Unfortunately this often results in dishonestly canny buyers damaging something they wish to return, to make sure they can return it....🙁

It's best to accept change of mind returns because then at least you have the opportunity to re-sell the item.

You can't do that if it's bosted!

And either way you will lose postage: sorry, but that's the price you pay for selling on ebay ☹️

I agree with your comments in some respects, but why does not eBay allow the capability to deduct  postage charges from the refund when it would easy enough to change the system. Another example of the buyer is always right even though in my case they were both nerds.

Because it's the law for business sellers to refund the whole initial payment and ebays money back guarantee does not differentiate between business and private sellers where returns are accepted.
