The new when we get paid rules from February.

Ebay was always heavily weighted in favour of the Buyers, but this new mad rule thats coming in next month about having to wait two days after delivery is confirmed to get paid is simply beyond the pale.

And sometimes delivery conformation never comes, apparently in that situation we have to wait 14 days to get our money.

This is disgusting and completely nuts. A self-destructive move from Ebay.

I sell used vinyl records. Looking ahead, buyers will play records upon receipt and then (not before) decide whether they want to keep them, a sort of `test-drive` option; at worst I may end up running a  record library. Can you imagine supermarkets waiting for customers to eat their groceries before paying? I may have to stop selling on eBay.

But they could do that now, and some probably do. The buyer will have paid, you will just not get the money from Ebay straight away.

Trouble is at the moment RM tracking is not showing as delivered on ebay - it does on the RM site, but not according to ebay. I wonder why that is?

I guess it's 'working as planned' i.e. wrongly, but in ebay's favour.

Yes. Also sellers using cheaper courier service will not just find late or
missing deliveries but returned late deliveries as the buyer can't be
expected to wait days/weeks after the final estimated delivery date. The
seller will have to pay for the return.Sellers will be forced to stop using
the cheapest delivery methods which isn't a bad thing so long as it's
delivered ahead or on time which luckily mine are ♥️♥️

Of course, but the buyer`s psychology would be different. When I take
delivery of a vinyl record (I buy as well!) I think `great, my record is
here`! Under the new regime it won`t be `my` record yet.
As I said, I sell mainly used vinyl records, and the first thing buyers will
do upon delivery is play them, at least once and quite possibly more, If
the record is,say, £50, many will then say `nah, I`ll save my money for
something else-I never really wanted it that much anyway`.
Do you see my point?

Nothing has really changed as they have as far as they know already paid just the seller hasn't received it so they likely will see nothing different. If they want to send it back they will still have to open a return and send it back. The ones that leave feedback straight away will no doubt be the same ones that still do so straight away and worst case you wait for the tracking to update.

While most buyers will be OK there will be others who will experience a change of mind.

Perhaps I am becoming jaded with wheedling, procrastinating types, looking  for an angle, as you do get with some people who collect vinyl. Recently, I sold a record for over £500;call me paranoid but there is no way on earth I would have posted it without payment having already been made.

I see your point but it isn’t the case that the buyer will think ‘nah, I’ll save my money’ with record in hand and the money still in their possession. If you were the buyer in this scenario it would be as you said, ‘your record’.

The buyer paid at the time of order as usual but eBay will now withhold it from the seller for up to 14 days. They can of course think ‘nah I’ll save my money’, return the item and get a refund but that’s no different to the way things are now, except now you may have had use of that money for a bit longer before having to refund it.

Payment would have been made by the buyer on ordering and would be as ‘safe’ as it ever was. From the 4th you just will have to wait up to 14 days for ebay to release that payment to you. You may feel safer being paid before posting but, with respect, I think that way of selling on third party platforms has had its day.

Even after receiving the £500 and posting the record, the buyer could still have scammed you/returned for refund the same as it will be going forward.

As an infrequent seller I’ve been subject to 30 day holds on most of my sales, so I can’t really see the problem with this, its Simple Delivery that will cause the real trouble.

Does anybody know if February 4th cut off applies to date of listing or date of sale ? In other words if I did a buy it now, today, and it sells after february 4th - would the new rules apply?

Yes it would - they’ll be updating all existing listings on the 4th February to include the buyer protection fees.

That’s why many of us will be deleting all our current listings before then.

Simple delivery has me worried.

I don’t want it nor need it because I’m already sorted. I already have a routine in place that works for me, for where I’m living and for my personal circumstances.

I already have it worked out. So eBay can take their simple delivery and stick it where the sun don’t shine.
That’s all I have to say on that.

Me too -  I will not be using it because I am unable to, so  it is eBay who have basically said "cheerio" to many of us.

The new payment rules will be applied to all existing listings from that date.

The buyer protection fee will be added to all existing 'Buy It Now' listings and any new/relisted 'Auction style' listings from that date.

Exactly I too just don’t see why I have to change my way of selling to please eBay.

I’ve been selling since 2020 and it’s taken me all these years to establish myself and to find a routine that works and become settled and yeah there have been ups and downs and through feedback I have grown and become more confident and better. So now I have a good selling strategy, why would I want to change it. I live in a out of the way village with no post office and as I’ve stated before in other messages here. We have a handful of post boxes here big enough to mail letters, small books, dvds and cds. Anything larger or bulky has to be collected by the post. Because my nearest drops off, parcel lockers and the like are a bus or two away. So rather than spend my profits from my last orders on bus fare to post more orders. I have them collected from my house. This all works perfectly for me. Might not everyone but for me this works and has great results and I have a great reputation and feedback score. Because I care and work hard to deliver satisfaction within my limitations.

I agree, why should you/we  have to change the way our accounts are run which have taken a lot of effort and some,  to satisfy OUR customers...  eBay are making it impossible and infringing on peoples " way of life "  - if many people leave they only have themselves to blame.

17years above standard account with 100% feedback and NO revisions- it is organic!

It feels like a great big smack in the face with a wet fish!

Same here, over 20 years, buying and selling periodically, 100% feedback, I I buy my postage online, everything goes Riyal Mail 48-hour, most economical for me and they collect it, has worked for me for many years, although as others say tracking isn't always successful in Ebay, the changes for private sellers over the years has become more and more restrictive, now this having to wait for payment, adding fee's on to the buyer is the last straw, then they ARE going to force us to use simple delivery (doesn't suit my circumstances) they have took it a step too far, Ebay certainly do not reward seller or buyer loyalty, this is not only going to impact private sellers but also people, whom buy from private sellers so we will be hit double dunt, Ebay has been dropping behind its competitors in the last few years, but this is going to be the death of it for private sellers/buyers, like many others I will stop selling come the 4th February but I will also stop buying too (I used the funds from selling to buy other stuff), This is poorly thought out policy.

eBay are " banking" on you/us doing just that,  which is why they have the " funds held"... hoping that it is  " recycled" into eBays pockets...

It is well known that small private sellers are the " jam" for eBay being the most who purchase, as per the CEO... it is going to backfire, greatly.
