Ebay was always heavily weighted in favour of the Buyers, but this new mad rule thats coming in next month about having to wait two days after delivery is confirmed to get paid is simply beyond the pale.
And sometimes delivery conformation never comes, apparently in that situation we have to wait 14 days to get our money.
This is disgusting and completely nuts. A self-destructive move from Ebay.

My main concern is not only the long wait to get paid, but it's actually the delivery confirmation: 4 times out of 10 the Royal Mail tracking system doesn't work!
Does anyone got suggestions about what kind of courier (and/or shipping method) would be more "secure"?
I usually do Royal Mail Second Class Signed For and, as I said, lot's of times it doesn't show when an item has been delivered 😞

What platforms ( if any) are you looking to change to if you don't mind me asking...

If/when you list after the 4th Feb changes, you will be deemed to have accepted the changes that came in on that date, so it's not 'against your will'.

I don't think Amazon and Etsy allow 'private' sellers, and Vinted has a special division for business sellers.

'It's certainly not fair but is it legal? '
Ebay are a mega-corp with mega lawyers.
No way would they ever open themselves up to being sued for doing something illegal, and their highly expensive lawyers could probably argue that black was actually white and get away with it in a court of law.
Unfair is something else altogether; yes it feels awful to have somebody keeping hold of *your* money to make interest on it without giving you any!
But Big Business doesn't give a flying flip about 'fairness', they only care about making money for their shareholders.
(and we have all 'agreed' to let ebay do whatever they want with our sales and our money. Agreeing to their latest 'terms and conditions' doesn't even need us to tick a box. We've agreed by simply *using* ebay.....

Has it occurred to you that it's business sellers masquerading as private sellers that are the reason behind this policy change?
As someone who has evaded fees on their 247 live listings, complaining about eBay's mistreatment of his potential customers is laughable.

I hold no brief for @meleksale but considering that their items span a number of categories and many more are used than new, I feel it would be a courtesy if you asked rather than assumed they're running a business.
If they're buying things in boot sales and charity shops, then selling on for a profit here, sure, that would be running a business. But maybe they're not, maybe it's just a very cluttered family. I just get irritated when people make accusations just from looking at a seller's listings.

..........I don’t mind handling the shipping myself. It’s not a one size fits all, never is. I don’t need eBay telling me what an item should weigh and how to ship it. Before it’s been sold......
Absolutely! I fully agree.
Maybe the whole exercise is meant to make it more complex for private sellers hoping they get fed up with the system in the end and move to other sites.
Ebay's balance sheets for the last few years might not have looked that good and their shareholders are not happy about that. Ebay knows very well that it is no longer the major private selling platform in the world since it had to face more competition in the last few years. So, their CEOs decided to summon their team in order to find new strategies to save face.
We will have to wait and see how it's new changes will pan out.

It is already " panned out" for me... eBay have treated genuine private sellers abominably, I have already stopped purchasing since last year; Items which I cannot afford to lose have been removed and come the end of the month I will no longer be selling.
eBays loss! And before anyone says they don't care - they will when a huge amount of genuine private sellers with above standard accounts for decades, and genuine business sellers who are hit with reduced sales and high costs - walk their talk 😉
By the way it is " stakeholder capitalism" .... the new term for shareholders... have a research... they think we are serfs!

You're still having to trust the courier to mark as delivered & they don't and this exactly what eBay wants si they can hang on to the money & make interest. Sellers will see less and less items marked as delivered but guess what this will mean more sellers will make false list claims, after all it hasn't been delivered has it?!?
13-01-2025 7:37 AM
Same here, I'm stopping selling on both my accounts feb 3rd (don't sell on this one much) & I'm buying what i can find for my bike building hobby now & then i'm going to rely on facebook groups forums & contacts for the rest moving forward. ebay just want to make interest on our money so are making any excuse to keep hold of it .

Me too, above standard account, genuine private seller, only sell clearout items and keep money earned for purchases I make on Ebay, so when I stop selling on 4th February, I will also stop purchasing from Ebay too, they won't only lose a lot of private sellers on the 4th, but a lot of buyers too, Ebay is dead on its feet.
14-01-2025 12:07 PM
I among other sellers completely agree.I have had a lot of items that have been delivered but does not show up as delivered.I think a lot of people will stop using ebay

If we sell cheap things that is not Signed For Delivery.. and just first class stamp,
How do ebay get confirmation of item received ?
14-01-2025 4:02 PM
They almost certainly won't unless you get lucky. You should get paid in 14 days if that's the case.
14-01-2025 4:04 PM
They don't.
Without tracking, the buyer's payment will be released to you 14 days after the sale.
For untracked deliveries, or tracked deliveries with no delivery confirmation signal, funds will be available 14 days from the order date.
Best have a read here:

They can sod off. I will use tracked 24 on everything.
