Thank you for your help. The retracted bid wouldn't display in the app or in the browser on my phone, scrounged a laptop to have a look.Bidder reported to eBay as he claimed he'd entered an incorrect amount, but didn't bother to enter his correct bid...

Upon looking, the explanation section is blank. How he managed to retract his bid without given a reason is baffling. I'll be reporting him to eBay.
