Ebay was always heavily weighted in favour of the Buyers, but this new mad rule thats coming in next month about having to wait two days after delivery is confirmed to get paid is simply beyond the pale.
And sometimes delivery conformation never comes, apparently in that situation we have to wait 14 days to get our money.
This is disgusting and completely nuts. A self-destructive move from Ebay.

Is this new funds released 2 days after item arrival rule only for the private sellers?
23-01-2025 10:57 AM
Yes, I think so... businesses should be carrying on as normal.

It seems a clear message to get every sellers operate as business sellers, or LEAVE eBay for good.

But private sellers are also buyers. When they cannot sell, they will not be able to buy, which will decrease the online trade in drastic way. Hence it doesn't seem to be a good rule for the whole economy of the country and also for eBay at all.
Private sellers are not some blokes born with loads of stuff to sell. They have things to sell because they have been buying the stuff, and changed hobbies or moved house etc.
I certainly won't be buying anything from online from now, knowing that I cannot sell them back.

I've decided to freeze all my item sales from Feb 4th for a couple of weeks to see how this plays out...I would suggest that other sellers may follow suit....

= sellers waiting on hold for ages
unless eBay is preparing for this by employing more staff to handle customer queries!

You have more faith in the CS system than I or board contributors have experienced.
Even the Mentors strongly encourage members to make contact early in the mornings to try to get help from the Irish CS, thus avoiding the less reliable sources ebay employ.
The none British CS have repeatedly been found to be 'script readers', keep members hanging on long periods of time , transfer members from CS to CS. Then get contradicting information which is not binding in ebays eyes, and often more of what the Member wants to hear than reality.

I've been with Ebay for 14 years and they have made some stupid decisions and definitely looking to sell elsewhere with this new decision.
23-01-2025 2:56 PM
I've had 2 last week and it took ebay a week to update it.
23-01-2025 3:00 PM
Still .75p for nothing.

Sorry I wasn't clear - maybe if I'd put a smiley after my exclamation mark?
I've read too many posts on the discussion boards to have much faith in CS. In fact, my faith in eBay as a whole is pretty close to rock bottom at the moment.

Well, I'd say a lot of private sellers are pretty miffed by the payment hold; we'd prefer it didn't happen but we can put up with it (it's not as though we desperately need the money immediately for 're-stocking', as we don't 'stock'...)
It's going to be the roll out of compulsory 'Simple Delivery' that's going to be the killer.
(Along with the sheer insult of ebay telling buyers that private sellers are not to be trusted....)

Agreed. Trust. Keyword here.
Simple delivery has me so worried if it eventually becomes mandatory because it just won’t work for me. If one scrolls through the chat here, they’ll find a more detailed explanation of my situation.
But back to the trust. I will say there are bad sellers out there but also good sellers.
Yet none of that really matters now because EBay are in not so many words treating us all as bad sellers who can’t be trusted, so to help motivate us to ship an item instead of just raking in the profits and sticking the finger up to our buyers by failing to deliver on time if at all.
To help change our behaviour we won’t be paid until after delivery. That will help us become good reliable sellers. And to further help us they’ll will be monitoring us closely using their spy…I mean simple delivery.
But when that fails to change anything. It will soon be that you won’t be paid until after delivery and the buyer is satisfied. If the item has been delivered but buyer isn’t satisfied no money at all. That’s what’ll happen next I bet you.
Now jokes aside. This is basically what I’m getting from all this mumbo jumbo eBay are sprewing out about the changes next month.

Not been able to read all of this huge thread, so apologies if already mentioned here - my question about the changes that are applicable from the 4th February 2025 onwards:
1) Does this mean for any items LISTED on or after 4th February?
2) OR, any PAYMENTS received on or after 4th February for sales made prior to the 4th?
3) OR, any items SOLD on or after 4th February?
or maybe even an option I have not thought about?
Thanks 🙂

The new payment rules for private sellers will apply to any items sold on or after 4th February.
The new buyer protection fee will be applied to any new listings from 4th February and any existing Buy it Now style listings.

The whole thing is just a DIRTY BIG EBAY SCAM.
eBay does not want Private Sellers as we do not generate enough money for them.
Even when I had more listings in October last year, this site acted disgustingly and has done ever since. I was in hospital on Life Support but they still closed off my listings and have shown no compassion whatsoever. All they said was you will now start again with just 200 listings per month. THANKS, eBay, 15 years of loyalty with 100% Feedback STOLEN from me because I was on LIFE SUPPORT.
On average over last 5 years, I have spent £250 every month on items for my collection. That will cease from 4th Feb. I am not paying an extra 4% + 75p for EACH and EVERY single item just to line eBay`s pockets. Gone will be the chance of Combined Postage as this disgusting extra FEE is added to every single item so if I buy 20 items from one seller I will have to pay 20 fees. Not a chance in hell.
Multiple Fees is what people are missing. These greedy sods at eBay have worked it out. A MASSIVE increase to the Buyer who may not be that savvy with it all. I am and many others will be.
SHAME on eBay to scam honest buyers and sellers.
The other sites may just be lining up to take on board all who leave this fast, sinking ship.
24-01-2025 1:58 PM
That’s disgusting and disappointing that they can justify themselves in light of that. Was you able to appeal or fight against it in anyway, shape or form, I’m sorry for your situation and hope you are ok now.
As for the sinking ship. Well the water is definitely up to the top decks now and the SS EBay is about to take her final plunge towards the bottom. So yeah man the lifeboats indeed. But for now I’m waiting until the water is lapping over my feet before jumping into a lifeboat or off the stern for safety.
24-01-2025 2:05 PM
No appeal whatsoever and no compassion either. I have lost everything for last 15 years because of a Drunk Driver. I was even told by another user of a Business seller a couple of years ago who had his business closed off in similar circumstances and he lost everything. eBay are a law unto themselves but hey-ho, what goes around comes around.

Hi sml92
Where did you see that?
marco@ebay said in the online chat:
Regarding your question, changes will apply to all listings from the date the new changes take effect. So, listings listed before the date in question, and new listings after the date, will be impacted.
24-01-2025 2:17 PM
Well in that case. There should be a law in place to protect people in these kind of situations. And one could back it up with hospital and doctor records or something in order to not get penalised for something beyond their control.
