I have recently taken all my items I was selling off eBay due to simple delivery pricing. Can someone please explain to me why the big difference in price between simple delivery and actual evri web site prices? I've put one example of the same item and the price difference in the screenshots. Thanks.

A while back (before Simple Delivery), when I was buying postage through Packlink, I looked at buying via Evri directly, but it was more expensive.
The lower price initially shown (£2.62) is posting to a collection point. To post it to someone’s address, which is what most buyers will want, comes up as £3.29.
For standard size parcels you are better off with Simple Delivery.

£4.06 seems to be if you have Evri only selected. If you select RM and Evri it would be cheaper.

You are not comparing like with like.
One price is buying directly off the courier, the other is buying off ebay who buys off the courier.
Ebay's rates have no reason to be the same as the couriers'.

Royal mail is £4.40 1st class and £3.50 2nd class.

They mean if you had both Royal Mail and Evri selected as postage options in Simple Delivery.
1st Class and 2nd Class aren't even options in Simple Delivery so its a redundant comparison.
In addition, ebay will need to add an element on in some instances (note, in some instances Simple Delivery costs are cheaper than what you could get from the couriers) to cover (1) the fees they used to charge in the Final Value Fee on postage and (2) ebay are covering the losses themselves up to £750 for Simple Delivery, which is far more than what Evri themselves cover.

The £2.62 price only applies to C&C parcels. It jumps to £4.79 if you are delivering to a home or business address. If you want POD then you have to add another 60p which takes your parcel to £5.39.
And that price does not include increasing the insurance value which would be more if over £20.
The SD price includes insurance up to £750.

Hi, just had a look at what you said, and found how to change the courier. It's still coming out at £3.38. Over a pound more than buying the postage online. Thanks for your help but it doesn't explain the big difference in price between simple delivery and evris web site.

I think the explanation from cobwebcottage above is the clearest you will get.

If I buy direct form Evri for instance, I'm covered up to the value of £20, so I don't see how eBay is covering it from their own pocket? The parcel is for exactly the same service. Who in their right mind is going to pay £3.50 RM or £4.06 Evri for a £5.50 bed sheet?

You are covered up to £750 via Simple Delivery in the event of loss or damage to the parcel in the courier network. If this happens ebay refund the buyer themselves - at no loss to the seller. This would indeed be ebay covering it from their own pocket
Who in their right mind is going to pay £3.50 RM or £4.06 Evri for a £5.50 bed sheet?
looking at your sold items - someone did?
I think cobwebcottage has given a fantastic reasoning above as to why the price of Simple Delivery is higher than Evri directly (especially as it appears the comparison isn't for the same service)
In any event - its the price ebay have set. If you don't like it, other selling platforms may offer different pricing. Sellers moving to other platforms is likely to be the only thing that would lead ebay to do something about Simple Delivery anyway!
Either way - these are the prices ebay are setting for Simple Delivery. If they are too high - other platforms do exist to try to sell on (and people leaving to sell on other platforms will be the only way ebay would likely do something about Simple Delivery)

'Who in their right mind is going to pay £3.50 RM or £4.06 Evri for a £5.50 bed sheet?'
Does your bedsheet weigh over 1 kilo?

@tgillan01332 If you search the forum you will see that all aspects of SD are an unexplained mystery of contradiction and confusion to all but those who designed it.
Without knowing what you want to list it is hard to give further help. But the rate that comes up on listing may be for a heavier weight than needed. You need to put price in first and you may get a custom delivry option.
