Because eBay needs to line its own pockets.

There are problems with SD, but i don't really see how any of your items would ever have been posted for 85p. I must be missing the point.

because it is tracked 48, which is £2.70 for letter and large letter. Or £2.74 with Simple Delivery if you exclude Evri.

Are you sure this was under simple delivery? Were you the buyer? Was it a non SD transaction perhaps
SD prices start at 2.74
which makes me think wasn’t one of them but custom postage
perhaps the seller was including postage and packing and not sending it in a envelope but Jiffy bag ? For protection which might have made it a large letter

If you list and it’s under 100g and under £10 custom postage is available now and after the 15th when SD becomes mandatory
you can send however you like
up to large letter size
confirmed to me by customer agent today when I was asking about if large letters are also exempt like normal envelopes from simple delivery
copying my post from another thread - agent reply in bold
=================================================
regarding simple delivery , the new managed shipping system from 15 April
ebay have said we do not have to use it for light under 100g items which cost under £10 and fit in an envelope size
my question is does the “envelope” also include large letter size ie what eBay calls a padded envelope
The first is 0.5cm thick and the padded one up to 2.5cm thick …
Thank you for sharing your concern.
Just so I’m on the same page, can I confirm you’re contacting about simple delivery criteria?
Criteria for NOT using simple delivery..yes
Let me clarify this for you.
Starting from 15 April, Simple Delivery will be the only delivery method available for private sellers when listing most items. Sellers won't have an option to opt out by selecting the custom delivery option unless any of the following apply: Items in categories that are comprised exclusively of prohibited items Bulky inventory (> 61 x 46 x 46 cm, >20kg) Postables inventory (<100g AND <£10)
In this case the package won't be considered but the weight and price of the item will be
thank you for that clarification so definitely I will be able to send the larger envelope size (still Postable)
It will fully depend on your item weight and dimensions.
Also it is important you opt out of simple delivery so that you can use custom postage if it is not meeting the criteria for simple delivery.
.
If the weight is under 100g and the package is Postable ..the padded envelope size it’s ok ?
Let me check it for you.
Please be assured, your item price should be less than £10 and the weight under 100g. Here your size won't matter.
Once you have set your listings with the criteria you will be able to select custom postage.
Ok that’s great

That is really hopeful.
We all know not to believe anything CS say, but they seem to have been pretty specific here.
I'm still going to wait and see what actually happens, before celebrating.
