Simple Delivery

Is Simple Delivery mandatory now ? used to be able to select custom postage option but it’s not available now. Just tried listing and Simple Delivery is the only option for postage

Re: Simple Delivery

Response from ebay regarding a buyer being charged 4 sets of postage for 4 items that can easily be sent in the same package at no extra cost for 1 postage price.

Items were sold by myself after the buyer used "Make an Offer" and I accepted, thus creating 4 separate orders.

Maybe "Make an Offer" items should be placed in the "Basket".

Absolute shambles.

"I'm sorry if you were provided with misinformation from previous agents on this issue.

Ebay Simple Delivery currently does not support combined postage after individual orders have been created. If a buyer purchases multiple items in a single transaction, eBay creates a multi-quantity order automatically, which combines the shipping.

However, once orders are placed individually, it is not possible to combine them for shipping with Simple Delivery because it requires new logic to assign the shipping service. This feature might become available in the future, but not in this current state.

I understand that you have been given much of this information previously, and so this response may not satisfy the resolution that you were hoping for."

Re: Simple Delivery

Unfortunately, this is all indicative of a top down approach by eBay, one which isn't properly thought through.

Under Simple Delivery, anyone who wishes to send a Large Letter sized packaged by Royal Mail is automatically charged a minimum of £2.74 by eBay, even though it only costs £2.70  direct through the Royal Mail Tracked 48.

For items which are worth less than £20, there is no need to use Tracked 48.  Normal post is sufficient as they are still insured up to £20 by the Royal Mail and you can also receive proof of delivery from the QR code.  It is therefore pretty pointless spending £2.74 sending a Large Letter item worth just a few pounds by Tracked 48 when normal second class post is sufficient and only costs £1.55.

It is fine eBay having Simple Delivery as an option for those who wish to use it, however it should be just an option.  Making it compulsory is not just interfering, it is disrespectful and patronising to those who have successfully bought and sold on eBay for many years.

Re: Simple Delivery

Same. And nothing works to bring back switched to advanced & custom postage. I've now lost a listing because I'm not relisting simple delivery and my other items are now stuck without important info

Re: Simple Delivery

Hi , Just spoke to an ebay agent who did not make me aware of this opt out option !

Private seller and buyer for 21 years on ebay , not big on technology , use a laptop but do not have a printer and have never owned a mobile phone which means I can not print postage labels or scan QR codes .

Posting items in the past was simple , I wrote the address on package , took it to the post office and sent it tracked or signed for to avoid any issues , simple ! I have enough feedback to verify this .

Now it seems if I want to continue on ebay I will have to go out and buy a printer and mobile phone just so I can post an item . Would probably have to buy some scales and a measuring tape while I'm at it to put in dimensions and weight . How is this simple compared to how I have been posting items , and I'm sure countless other people , to date . Well done ebay , did you give the person who dream't this up a bonus .

Selling items on ebay was a bit of fun to me  not a profit making business ,  mainly selling comics I had collected over decades , and bits of bric -a -brac but seems to be getting a bit complicated , printers , QR codes and I suppose HMRC on top of that as well , which had limited what I could sell anyway without going over the trading limit . Maybe time to find a simpler pastime than ebay !

Will give your opt out option a try when I next relist items and see if it works , thanks for the advice was more helpful than the ebay agent .

Re: Simple Delivery

Totally agree , my experience ,   ebay  global shipping from states via Evri  , one attempted delivery then Evri guy must have noticed value on custom label £120 , no other delivery attempted . Contacted seller , not interested as it had been sent through ebay's global shipping their problem , you can't contact Evri , as much as I tried to complain . Was eventually refunded after 30 days , but the Evri guy is probably still stealing parcels and who cares .

Wont purchase items myself if sellers are using Evri  , why are ebay promoting this company when  there are numerous negative reports about them .

Ebay is going downhill rapidly , simple delivery is only going to clear out more buyers and sellers

Re: Simple Delivery

If something not delivered via global shipping they sort it; when something didn't arrive that I had posted, they refunded customer, there was nothing I, as the seller, could do.
The only time I sent something via Evri that was not delivered they refunded me and I refunded the customer, about 6 weeks later I got the item back!

Re: Simple Delivery

How can we get eBay to get rid of simple delivery or at the least allow the seller to choose the service they want. Start a petition?  Or maybe everyone stops using eBay immediately and they will soon get the message. Idiotic decision.

Re: Simple Delivery

I've already started the deletion process yesterday morning lol. And listed elsewhere & selling. Hope they fall hard because it will be a long time coming with how they've treated small private sellers who they've let be scammed for years . Its gonna be epic to see their downfall with us all gone & no longer buying either. I already yesterday had several usa buyers message me in a panic coz all my stuffs gone from listing. They should've bought while they could & a uk girl has just followed onto vinted and marketplace, so I can just clear my stuff there

Re: Simple Delivery

Vinted really aren't any different from ebay - they have a buyer protection fee and although you can choose the postal service, vinted will override your settings where your service isn't available. Plus there is no customer service with vinted, its run by bots and you cannot speak to a human being, ever. Buyers have 10 days to collect their items and then, if they dont hit the magic button, you have to wait another 2 days before being paid. And then if the buyer uses apple pay, it could be another 2 business days on top of that. And please don't sell anything of high value on v, far too many scammers know how to play the system. I video myself packing anything I sell on there.

I've started to sell again on ebay, even with simple delivery and haven't hit any problems so far. I sent something on the 6th via evri and was paid on 8th. For me, the buyer protection fee on ebay is a far bigger issue than simple delivery.

I find using both works - I get a better price for stuff on ebay but sell more on vinted. Ultimately, they are both businesses and any business' goal is to make a profit and will make at times, unwelcome changes. Its no different from shops not accepting cash, or self service tills. You either go elsewhere or adapt

Re: Simple Delivery

so when “Antonio” signs off with his reply it’s a bot?
I think bots do the initial acknowledgement of your message / request for help , then again bots give an answer but if you’re still not happy you get through to a human by clicking I still need help

not that they’re ever much help either but it’s a little bit more help

as for eBay are really any different …err yes they are in many ways the main two being ease of listing and views

but you’re right both platform have problems

I found vinted had masses of scammers ..id say more than ebay

they also had this plainly ridiculous and nothing but ridiculous policy that buyer always pays the return postage even if the item they received wasn’t the one they ordered (ie you ordered a dress and received a dolls house) or was significantly not as described

but that was last year, not sure if they’ve improved there , hope they have

anyway

I’ve not been reading last week or so much

Are large letters now allowed with custom delivery. Yet? Cos it was yes, then no, then maybe, then no, then unclear

not sure what the  latest status is lol

🙄

Re: Simple Delivery

No, no improvement there, buyer still pays. They also have a ridiculous thing that if something isn't sent in a box, the buyer can claim damaged in transit and they will get refunded. The seller gets nothing

Re: Simple Delivery

Plainly ridiculous and nothing but ridiculous for clothing category

ah so Vinted still thinks it’s ok to order one thing get another but buyer is financially penalised

bad then vinted

I’ve been lucky there as I’m sure most have but you shouldn’t have to be lucky to not lose money due to de facto others faults and failures whether they’re sellers or carriers

It seems you hope in vain! I've not used vinted, but I can see this on their website:

"Refunds for returns [for SNAD, and other justified reasons] are made up of:

  • The price of any returned items
  • The Buyer Protection fee for any returned items
  • The initial shipping fee you paid to get the order
  • Any fees you paid for optional services like Item Verification or Electronics Verification"

The full T&C do say, however:

"You’re responsible for return shipping costs unless agreed otherwise with the Seller"

Oh, so it's dependent on the seller's goodwill?!

But then, further down, it gets worse:

"If you pay for return shipping, the return shipping costs will be deducted from your refund"

What? Deducted?! If I pay £2 to return a £10 SNAD item, they only refund me £8? Don't they mean "added to your refund", as would be fair (but contradict the other two statements)?

So a seller who messes up or tries to pull a fast one either just loses the sale, or may offer to pay return postage, or pockets the return postage, while the poor deceived buyer is most probably left out of pocket.

[For anyone who hasn't read the whole post, it all refers to vinted!]

Re: Simple Delivery

Yes if seller agrees to pay for return then all is fine

if they don’t you pay whether they’re in the right or wrong

unless other vinted sellers or buyers know different that’s how I understand it

having said that there’s eBay cases which are plainly unfair to sellers left right and centre

vinteds unfairness is to buyers
