Is Simple Delivery mandatory now ? used to be able to select custom postage option but it’s not available now. Just tried listing and Simple Delivery is the only option for postage

No, the dispatched message is not logical - but it was the same for labels bought via ebay before SD. I always send a message to buyer at same time as doing the label to say when the item will go into the post.

Oh, thanks. I never bought labels through ebay before, preferring to use Royal Mail direct for more control. Uploading a tracking number for Tracked postage I buy myself also triggers 'Dispatched', so I delay doing that until I have actually posted. And I normally send a similar message, with a photo of the package to show the buyer what to expect.

Be aware, if you do not use Simple Delivery labels but use your own postage, then
you cannot now add any new tracking, eBay suggest sending the buyer a message with those tracking details. If a case is opened later for item not received, you will be able to add those tracking details.
A refund is sent to whoever paid for the SD label:
- If you selected 'Buyer pays’ when you created the listing, your buyer will automatically be refunded for any Simple Delivery label that isn’t used after 30 days
- If you selected ‘Seller pays’ and offered free postage on your listing, you'll need to fill out the Request a refund for Simple Delivery form for the label that wasn’t used. Make sure to send your request within 14 days of your item selling.
If you wish just to use Royal Mail, you can opt put of Evri here:

I hadn't thought of using my own postage for listings where ebay have imposed SD — that always sounded too inconvenient/complicated/risky. And I haven't actually tried to upload my own tracking since SD came in since most of the rest of my listings are under £10, so I take the risk* (and delayed payment) of 2nd Class Large Letter for those, as they are quite light and go for much less than SD Large Letter.
*But my only delivery that has ever gone astray (so the buyer alleged) was under SD!

If you used SD and the item has gone astray then eBay puck up that refund to the buyer and you get to keep the payout. One of the big bonuses of using Simple Delivery.

Yes, they did that on the sole occasion that a sale of mine went astray, and I was happy to ackhowledge that in this thread on 8/i/26, though I was a bit regretful that they didn't even ask me why it might not have arrived – if I'd forgotten to post it, perhaps, or someone didn't understand what I had asked them to do, the buyer might have then received the item they wanted, rather than a refund.

For a SD item not received claim, Ebay should be checking that the item was tracked as received by the carrier e.g. at a post office or parcel shop. If a seller forgets to post it (or e.g. can't post it because they are taken to hospital), the refund should come from the seller.

I started using ebay for labels when they were delaying payment coming into account until a period after delivery, but would allow payment for postage to come from the order payment.
SD working out ok for me, esp with label and free collection from Royal Mail - just combined postage that is an issue

The combined postage issue with SD, peeps are saying has been solved.
Buyers have to add all the items in their basket prior to paying, then at eBay checkout eBay will have combined postage.
May be an idea to add some sort of guidance for this of the above, in your descriptions, if you wish to offer combined postage. 🤔

It isn't always an accurate combined postage i.e if I had manually combined the postage it would be less.
As a buyer adding several items to the basket doesn't usually bring about combined postage.

Iam still finding listed items i put in as small parcel moved to medium post £5.15 which is ripping off buyers and if free post ripping me off ! if i remember to check the cost of simple delivery when a sale is made you can only cancel to put the right postage in! still a pain

With 24k sales and over 7k of listings, the free selling fees must out weigh the problems with simple delivery!

Simply delivery is in the now and a pain to deal with (at times) , selling 45 years of collections can take years and eBay has takes lots of fees other the years ,far less a stain than SD
