Postage costs

Can anyone help please? Sorry don't know if this is the right board, tried member to member with no luck.

I listed an item with simple delivery, buyer pays.  As usual I was given the choice of postage options. I selected large letter at a cost of £1.55.

The item sold for £8.00. I was then notified that the buyer had paid £1.55 for the postage but the cost for the label to me would be £3.25.

I was able to select a different postage method at £2.70 but not given the large letter option which was indicated on the listing.

Any idea what is going on?

£1.55 is the price for Standard Tariff 2nd Class Large Letter Up to 100g which is not a service provided by Simple Delivery, so it would appear that the item must have been listed with custom postage rather than Simple Delivery (I can't see any item sold for £8.00 + £1.55 postage on this account so can't check).

£2.70 is the price for Tracked 48 Large Letter Up to 1Kg.  Not sure what £3.25 relates to.

How heavy was your item actually, as it looks as though it may have been more than the 100g you originally selected when listing?

It's an easy mistake to make with Custom Postage, because eBay leads you very strongly toward buying a postage label from them. But what you do instead is take the £1.55 from the Buyer and go to the Post Office to purchase your 2nd Class Large Letter postage from them (or put a 2LL stamp on it and use the postbox). If you choose to buy a Simple Delivery label you will pay more - £2.70 in this case.
