Option to send invoices disappeared

Option on sold listings to ‘send payment details’ has disappeared and I’m unable to send people invoices for combined orders like I normally do. I did a live chat with customer service, but I don’t really think they knew what I was talking about.

I have buyers waiting to pay, but are reluctant to pay for the entire postage cost in one go and have me refund due to the amount of money they would have in limbo.

anybody else having the same problem? Anyone at eBay able to confirm it’s being looked into so I can tell my buyers?

Re: Option to send invoices disappeared

THANKS i thought they were exempt.   There seems to be no way around this at the moment.

In addition, I was looking at simple delivery explanations, (i assume this will be rolled out in near future to all).  Ebay have complete control of the postage paid by the buyer with SD  and a label will be issued for each payment.  Ebay does say that combined post could be allowed along with other post free or promotional offers .   This is concerning because we wont be able to refund any excess post generated by lots of labels if one buyer purchases (for example)  x 10 items.  We wont be able to refund it becauswe we wont hold the funds to do so.   This looks badly tought through and someone at ebay needs to look again and act on it if this is the case.

Re: Option to send invoices disappeared

After 22 years selling on ebay I've stopped, not listing anything further, not being able to generate combined invoices means it is impossible to provide a decent service to my many repeat buyers. Coming on top of the BPF which is a blatant ploy by ebay to gouge an outrageous chunk of cash from each private sale (there was more than enough buyer protection in place already) it is obvious that ebay does not want to provide a usable platform for private sellers, and as such in my case they have succeeded. Needless to say I won't be doing any buying here either, and I hope that all the other private sellers they have driven away do the same, they'll then have succeeded in losing all the sales those private sellers generated, plus all the purchases those private sellers made.

Re: Option to send invoices disappeared

The combined postage problem is a nuisance but there may be an awkward work-around available to sort out that mess. What I fail to understand, though, is why EBAY seem happy to reduce their income.

I’m relatively new to EBAY, but if I understand the old system (pre-October 2024) correctly, had I sold something for £10 (postage included), as a seller I would be charged 12.8% - that is £1.28 – plus a 40p transaction fee. I would receive £8.32, and EBAY would earn £1.68.

Now, and assuming I’m still content to receive £8.32 income, and post my lot at that price, my buyer will be charged 4% - that is £0.33 – plus a 75p transaction fee. I would receive my expected £8.32, but EBAY would only earn £1.08.

If I’m right – and I’m not really sure I am – I’m at a loss to understand why the change recently implemented by EBAY is a good business decision.

Surely the simplest solution – for now anyway – is to revert to pre-October rules. Most sellers were content with that system – less dangerous than a rewrite of a rewrite of the website.

Re: Option to send invoices disappeared

Agree, I am truly saddened... what was once a super platform is now a shadow of its former self and not  user-friendly. I actually stopped buying last year and January was my last  1 sale, despite having around 20 listed, no views etc  - I just can't trust this " marketplace" anymore and think that eBay have a much rather "bigger agenda" at play.

All the best to you.

@drainie the missing part of your math may at least be in part that very often, private sellers were not paying the full FVF under the old system.

eBay used to be very generous with FVF discount promos to private sellers, usually sending 70-80% off fee offers fortnightly, and many of those sellers would intentionally wait and only list when they could use on of those offers.

So the £1.28 in your example might actually have really only been ~ £0.26, in which case the new fees would net eBay more than the old way if the seller was using a promo.

The other thing to factor in is that eBay is now monetizing these sales in other ways - by delaying payouts for private sellers, they've increased the interest they earn on funds and they've also been quite clear with investors that the coming Simple Delivery managed shipping mandate is a revenue generating initiative as well.

Buyers and sellers won't have any direct visibility into how much eBay is making from those parts, but if you put all of that together, it's likely eBay is actually making more total under this new system than they were before on many private transactions.

Sorry you are experiencing this - I have no idea but added to everything else gong on with eBay at the moment, it is like a slow dismantling of private sellers?

Re: Option to send invoices disappeared

Same with me have taken all my listings off and moving elsewhere, certainly won't be buying on here, the businesses i buy from probably have their own websites or are on other sites like Amazon i know that my fish food supplier is. After what they have done to us i'm not generating money for them via business purchases. 21 years for me and i also think a lot of my repeat buyers and refuse to let them be fleeced
