Hi, because of the numerous threads on here about the new Buyer Fees for private Sellers, I thought it would be a good idea to have one main thread to post the notifications of when the Buyer Fee is introduced in the different categories, now that Ebay have decided to roll it out gradually.
I will try and update the first post every day or two with any changes that people find so they are all in one place.
*Any tips on the best place to find these pending notifications from Ebay would be appreciated, thanks.

The New Buyer Fees apply to the following categories on Ebay:

It was randomly applied to a handbag a few days ago. No idea why that happened.

How strange, but not surprising. Were you able to get the buyer fee removed on the item?

Are you running a book on how many they get to before they decide to stop it?

Good idea, as we can't rely on eBay to do it.

It wasn't my listing, a seller asked why a fee had been added to their bag and it transpired that it was the new BPF.

"A Handbag....?!" 😄

Ebay may, or may not, issue announcements when new categories go live.
That information may or may not be right.
Not all items in a category seem to be impacted at the same time.
Too many variables for useful information to be garnered from this thread.

Perhaps eBay have decided to bring a bit of fun to the situation, by adding the BPF to various random categories, or just the odd item, then removing it, then adding it on again, just for a laugh...

If the changes in global shipping charges to the USA are anything to go by, we shouldn't be surprised if that was the official approach.
It'll add more 'fun' and excitement to the Ebay buying 'experience' if prices change randomly from one day to the next. Could make a successful purchase at a reasonable price feel more like a lottery win?

True, but surely it doesn't hurt to try and gather any information that people find and collate it here in one place - just in case.

If you mean this one:
it wasn't a handbag, it was a camera bag, listed under Electronics, hence the BPF.
Yes, that's the one.

OH, OK.
I was going by this post from you - which links to the same thread.

A seller was just asking about their bag listing with the buyer protection fee allocated to it right now.

That is the one, you're absolutely right, it was listed in Electronics as the main category.

Is that the one that accidentally takes UK buyers to another website, called ebay.com? 😁

The new fees are in the large category of crafts. Looked a few days ago, no fees. This morning, and fees. I searched the general term "craft die" as loads of private sellers declutter small craft dies for low prices, and I scrolled down a lot and they were all "odd" prices i.e. with BPF added. I also checked some of my regular sellers all the way to the final check-out page.
Crafts is where loads of private sellers declutter, among other things, loads of low-value items. Hobby crafting tends to be a low-budget activity, which is, I think, partly why it appeals to all ages and to those on low and high budgets.

The new Buyer Fees have been added to Music and also to Comics/Magazines (presumably Books too?)
Two categories that tend to be dominated by business sellers.
