AS OF 15TH APRIL MY DAYS AS A PRIVATE EBAY SELLER WILL STOP AFTER 19 YEARS.
I AM FED UP OF THE GREED OF EBAY AND I HOPE OTHER EBAY SELLERS DECIDE TO NO LONGER LET THE EBAY CONTROL FREAKS HAVE THIS MUCH CONTROL OVER PRIVATE SELLERS.

Ebay might think they are being clever refining postage options by category but it's stupid as it's driving some of us nuts with inconsistent experiences. At other selling platforms you generally know where you stand and can learn 'how it works' but not here even for very experienced users it's just a dog's dinner.
Hopefully eventually some adults with brains will take charge of this place.

Even if you have a smartphone unless it’s a fairly recent one that can upload the recent enough software you can’t use the eBay app
not sure if buying a cheap one in those second hand electronic shops or even eBay would work
ie if you used it to take a photo of the qr code off your computer screen
maybe a friend or relative has an old phone gathering dust that you could try this with ?
maybe write to evri management
do they not have a duty to have printers in the shops
🤷🏼
or you could think of buying a second hand printer if you’ve got a lot of listings to do
you can get them for 20-30 quid in a charity shop or on Facebook marketplace maybe
brand new ones needn’t cost the earth either if you get a very basic one
you’d only need to buy black ink which you can also get at a good price here

ebay still doesn't get it !
Philatelists and postal historians do NOT do labels printed off on printers at home. Capiche!
More than that. ebay's action is political. We are in a free market. We have choices on how we post. When we don't have those choices on ebay. We go somewhere else.
I don't do Totalitarian/Globalism/Marxism/Communism.
ebay's Simple Delivery is Totalitarian/Globalist/Zombie Apocalypse.
I've stopped listing stamps and postal history on ebay. I will never do new listings of stamps or postal history here EVER again! Comprendez! I will only relist what's already listed on ebay and gradually move off what's left of those to a.n. other website.
I will only sell odds and sods where the buyer won't care if they receive stamps or not.

You asking ebay to be so knowledgable , culturally informed and sophisticated ? Lol
The fact that they’ve introduced a draconian system however it impacts anyone negatively should tell you they’re not interested
imho

Spot on ......I could not have responded any better than you have to 4minutemile

I haven't a printer or smartphone, I screenshoot the QR code eBay send after a sale, take the tablet to post office, they zap it, give me the receipt.

I guess you could do the same thing with a camera too?
The main 'problem' would be that the charge for using a P.O. service is liable to go up, say from 30p to 50p next year or soon after? And like all other seller costs there's no way to include that in the postage.

Is everyone now on SD? I ask, because I am still able to use custom option (as of Sunday)
12-08-2025 5:21 PM
I have a hunch you answered your own question there. 😉
SD is still being rolled out and it's still running sellers over.

Yes, you could do the same thing with a camera.
There's no charge for dropping items off at the Post Office.

The eBay app isn't required. You can just use the eBay mobile website. It is also not necessary to connect to a mobile network. Just connect to your home broadband and save the QR codes to the phone/device.

If the printer is only required for postage labels then you can buy thermal label printers from around £25 new. Then there is no ink required, just the labels.

The charge would be for printing off and attaching a label rather than have someone drop off an item.

The Post Office doesn't charge for printing and attaching labels though?
12-08-2025 6:47 PM
Ok, I must be getting it mixed up with buying postage there. I'm still printing labels at home.
But if it's being done for free there's still a good chance that it may not be free one day.

No, Royal Mail brings your label and collects for 30p (Free with Simple Delivery if booked through eBay) not the Post Office. The Post Office and Royal Mail are separate companies.

There are so many pages about simple delivery that the answer to my question is most likely amongst them, but it is probably quicker to ask. If I did use SD, would anything I send be covered by eBay for loss or damage, including silver and gold, or would I have to send that Royal Mail special delivery? I tried searching for a list of what is and isn't covered, but to no avail. Could someone point me in the direction of such a list, if one exists?

Silver and gold aren't allowed to be sent with Simple Delivery (see under 'Valuables' in the list below). For eligible items (those not on the prohibited list and with a Buy it Now or auction start price of £750 or less) you are covered for the full amount sold.
The following items aren't allowed to be posted with Simple Delivery:

So How do you get around using SD ? If you are selling a gold medal , watch, chain etc.??

The ebay system should automatically identify items that aren't eligible for Simple Delivery and provide custom postage options instead.
