AS OF 15TH APRIL MY DAYS AS A PRIVATE EBAY SELLER WILL STOP AFTER 19 YEARS.
I AM FED UP OF THE GREED OF EBAY AND I HOPE OTHER EBAY SELLERS DECIDE TO NO LONGER LET THE EBAY CONTROL FREAKS HAVE THIS MUCH CONTROL OVER PRIVATE SELLERS.

I hadn't put a price in, because once I saw it was SD I didn't bother. However, I've now tried putting a price in, and the postage costs have equalised. So it must just be a quirk of the system. It's the sort of item that could sell well at an auction house so I'll probably do that instead.

I think it's something to do with if the buyer chooses the postage, the lowest price is shown - but they can pay more if they want a quicker service. I'm not sure why the 'seller pays' price has to be higher, though - some sort of averaging-out thing?
This is yet another drawback of SD... postage prices might never be the same from one day to the next - it's all in eBay's hands, not ours...

That would be far too convenient. Surely when an item sells ebay would pre-book a visit for the seller to go to their out of town warehouse to climb a tall ladder in the middle of a large room to pack under multi-camera surveillance so the buyer can watch the video and have evidence of what was sent in the box with the only slots available at 2am or if you didn't like that you could pay extra to get a slot at 4am but either way there would be automatic surcharges and negative feedback for it taking longer than 1 minute with not lets for the sick or disabled. They could call it Simple Packing.

Simple delivery !!! An item I have just sold, a car bonnet, was listed as collect only due to the size. Ebay have changed it to Simple Delivery and have guessed the size and weight, and charged my customer £4.90 for 'postage'!
I have no idea where my customer is until I pay and print off a label.
I am not happy, and I think my customer will be totally unhappy!
What should I do next ? Ebay??

Apparently, you HAVE to go with the Ebay recommended postage option. There are NO alternatives to this and your item will not be covered against loss or damage.
Besides, you have to open the label to find out the buyer's address.
Consider yourself lucky. Ebay AI probably thinks most car bonnets should be flat enough to fit inside a large letter. 😁

P.S. I'd message the buyer to see if they can collect it. Otherwise you may have to cancel the sale.

I have just been to check my items after the 6th August to see what has happened to them. (Time away banner still on until the end of the month). My knitting patterns have all been changed to Simple Delivery, but I still have custom postage if I could be bothered to update all 200+ of them. Other items, including ceramics, books, clothing have NOT been changed to SD and are still Free postage under my control. I thought everything was going to be changed by the 6th? What the bleep is going on?! I am so confused!

Its pretty nasty work taking over total control over your own platform's entire shipping operation by buying other shippers services, adding your own terms & conditions to it and reselling it for a premium to your long time loyal users. I will say it again, I think people need to make CMA aware of this by sending in complaints.

knitting patterns are definitely exempt and custom comes up when listing, as long as they’re £10 or under
can you not bulk edit those ones
odd that clothes and ceramics haven’t been changed so I guess they still haven’t moved everyone over or all the items on someone’s account
I agree it’s confusing , especially so because eBay have not told us how they’re doing it all

I am still able to have custom postage on my knitting patterns, relisted some yesterday and today and both days came as my custom postage, LL under 100g and under £10. Also allowing the same for fabric, under £10 but up to 1kg. Ties on the other hand is SD even though they are under 100g/under £10. Makes no sense.

From the order details page I click on print invoice. I use a tablet and don't have a printer but it downloads so I can view it and get the address.

Thanks, I can do that too. But the item was a car bonnet and it was listed as collection only. It was SD generating impossible labels for postage that isn't gonna happen. I advised the seller to cancel the sale.

I've accepted that I have no idea what is going on because things are so inconsistent by category.
After the various ebay concessions I'm OK with the SD (RM-Only) for small parcels but £2.70 is too expensive for most of my large letter items.
However when I list some small parcel items it doesn't even offer me SD.
And when I list some lightweight large letter items it only offers me SD.
So they are missing opportunities to sell SD while forcing it when it's not wanted.
It's still a mess. I can only think it's down to how they are trying to average out item weights and not kill some categories by forcing SD. They need to offer a consistent set of postage options in all categories as that's how real life works and what any reasonable person would expect.
The main advantage of SD for me was that it started me buying and selling a proportion of items on the clothing platform where it makes more sense.
Plus ebay still haven't fixed the software bugs with the presentation of the buyer tax so are showing all sorts of different prices to buyers that are not possible to transact at on different screens or sections of the webpage and app.

still a mess yes . i have two items going to the same buyer both will go in one box small parcel simple or it use to be as you could refund the extra postage paid on one for the orders but now you can not , you have to generate two labels (to show items despatched) then only use one and the unused one will get refunded at some point in time, this has been said all before i know but its just *bleep* /poor customer service/back backward step, and then i had an offer on an old hammer but noticed someone had moved it to medium postage (i listed as small parcel ,its under 2kg) and the hassle i had to change it back, if you could refund the postage at the end of sale how simple but all #up now. the other thing vinyl singles are still SD £2.72 large letter items under Other Music Memorabilia can be custom postage ?? just how do there mines work on this one ,, well that's out of me system (for now) as it is a waste of time but good the share ,

That's exactly how I feel, ok stupid delivery for anything parcelwise, but it's a definite NO for LL, up to say 250g the change from £1.55/£2.00 to a blanket £2.70. However you dress it up, it's not right.
Mind you I have some jars that are collection only (always done them like that), I have sold them 3 times in the last few weeks, all to people that live too far from me, none of them obviously looked at the postage that it was collection only, so perhaps buyers don' t care what they pay on postage! ( I've had to put COLLECTION in the title now, shouldn't need to do that.)

After a lengthy call to Ebay about the bonnet and another collect only item, the only option I had was to cancel both items, citing a problem with the buyers address!, and refund. I then relisted them both as Buy it Now at the final auction price, Collect Only, and luckily both buyers have bought again!!
But Ebay say it is my responsibility to ensure that my relisted items have the correct instructions and correct size and weight. Unfortunately I usually do a blanket re-list. When I do that Ebay seem to change everything.
As the Ebay customer service person said, it is still work in progress. They are looking forward to getting Simple Delivery in the States (NOT!!) where they only have USPS.

So buyers have to cashflow the repurchase until the refund from the original transaction(s) arrives.
Even with the various notable concessions over the past 4-5 months it's persistently offensive how Ebay are inconveniencing both buyer and seller (and in some cases making the buyer pay more than required eg low weight large letter or combined postage orders or just stopping things selling as the postage works out too expensive) so they can maybe make a bit of profit on the postage.
Ebay seem to have under-estimated how irritating they have become creating unnecessary problems.
Restricting reasonable choices due to their greed is such an unattractive look.

Yes, SD will mess with your settings sporadically and unexpectedly.
It's lucky you didn't have to post the car bonnet to China, via the Global Shipping Centre in Lichfield!
As a work in progress I'm not even sure they have the available shelf space?

I had a scarf that had been unsold and when i relisted it I had the choice of custom delivery and SD ,and my partner still has items listed that when they sell they are custom delivery and some are SD so we are baffled by what is going on too

We were just getting used to the SD with evri as we don't have a printer or smart phone so we just had to tap in the 6 figure number under the QR code into the evri label printing machine and a label was printed ,but now our local evri parcel drop off shop which is in a tesco express has removed the printer because it was going wrong so often and they don't think they will be replacing it and the staff say they can't print labels for parcels they need the labels to be already on ,We could walk to this shop but now the nearest evri shop is 2.5 miles away so a bit of a nuisance really ,our postoffice needs a QR code to scan to print a label .
