AS OF 15TH APRIL MY DAYS AS A PRIVATE EBAY SELLER WILL STOP AFTER 19 YEARS.
I AM FED UP OF THE GREED OF EBAY AND I HOPE OTHER EBAY SELLERS DECIDE TO NO LONGER LET THE EBAY CONTROL FREAKS HAVE THIS MUCH CONTROL OVER PRIVATE SELLERS.

thanks, I thought it might be clickable from one of the dropdowns at the top of the page rather than hidden in the random 'featured posts'

It also came in my messages on 17th July on my seller hub home page.

There's so much uncertainty around ebay at the moment that I've hardly listed anything for the last month or two - it just doesn't seem worth the bother when you don't know what's happening and if they are going to chop and change things further. With over 400 pages of comments on this thread alone and many more threads started you'd think they would sit up and take notice. Evidently they have listened about payment times as that has now changed back. Will they do anything about Simple Delivery and make it optional again..?

Yes looking back on it I think it did in mine too, but I forgot as I sell next to nothing on eBay and the speed of payments didn't really worry me. I was far more concerned with being forced to use SD much of the time. Having had a flurry of half a dozen sales in the last week only then did I notice it.

You only get quick payment if you use SD. But even then, if the code on the letter or packet doesn't show up on the Royal Mail database you won't get paid immediately. I sent two letters yesterday. One appeared on the Royal Mail database and I was paid the next day. The other was scanned straight after the other but did not appear on the Royal Mail database and I did not get paid the next day.
More than that! I sold two Olympic tickets to Brazil. Normally when posting an Olympic item I put Olympic stamps on the letter. It's like a bonus. But this time I had to stick a boring SD label on the envelope instead. Also, I buy postage stamps at a discount. Sometimes at half the price of postage. So I lose out on that by paying full price letter rate to Brazil when I could post it at half the price and benefit from the difference.
SD is unsatisfactory. It's already making me lose out. I lost £1.60 today when posting £3.20 letter rate to Brazil. The difference in the postage cost would allow me to reduce the sale price a smidgen for a better chance of securing a sale.

... and the customer is losing out because they were charged £5 for p&p to Brazil. ok ... so after you deduct the £3.20 and the ebay commission you're left with something. But there are no Olympic stamps on the letter I posted and I have sheets of these stamps sitting here waiting to be posted.
William Wallace shouted 'freedom!'. I want freedom to post the way I want to post. Shove these boring SD labels back down the electronic pipeline.

"Freedom!"
Too much totalitarianism going on in the UK currently.
We want freedom!
Which is why we're voting with our boots!

Yes, but I could post an item that costs less than £20 untracked for less than £2. What's with the unnecessary tracking and cost?

But if you don't use a cellphone you do need a printer. Lucky that I have a printer.

What is the situation if you sell an 'autographed item of memorabilia'? According to the EXCLUDED FROM COMPENSATION LIST these items aren't covered with SD?

That's about the worst possible thing about SD, after the inflated letter costs. If you sell an excluded/prohibited item and it gets lost there's no compensation. Certainly not from Ebay. Even if it's fine with the carrier.
There are way too many of these. That's why I switched my postage stamps to custom delivery, so I buy postage from RM not Ebay.
And you may never find out until an item sells, since the terms/conditions can change overnight!
Once you can no longer use custom postage it's not safe to sell those items on this platform.

'Too much totalitarianism going on in the UK currently.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Neither of the current pair of 'totalitarian' straight-jackets, that are winding up ebay members, can be laid at the UK's feet.
The duty of giving seller's details to HMRC (once over the pathetically low 'selling limit') is due to a worldwide agreement between about 38 countries.
And ebay is a deeply capitalist AMERICAN company. They ain't going to listen to a word from a UK *Labour* Govt......

This simply a problem with Ebay . it has very little to do with politics of any shape or form .
Elements and of SD , BPF etc are simple dishonest and a reality is to keep things in check is better regulation of practices by those in charge
What Ebay are doing is exercising their Freedom to do precisely what they want regardless

Actually both items that I sold and posted after 1st August were using custom delivery and both had funds available to withdraw as soon as I posted them and marked them as dispatched.

Don't ask me, I've been arguing all along that items under £20, and up to large letter size 250g should be able to be posted using standard Royal Mail for £2, and there is no need whatsover for it to be tracked. Fortunately, at present, DVDs ARE allowed to be posted for £2 by custom postage and do not have to be tracked.
